The Who > Limp Bizkit.

Very, very few covers are better than the original. One rare example is Rufus Wainwright's version of Halleluja.

Gave me the idea for this thread to discuss what cover songs you think are better than original versions.
I think there around 50/50, some are the cover is superior in others the original.

A few cover songs I think are superior to the original

Reel Big Fish - Take On Me (cover of Aha)
Nivarna - Man Who Sold the World (cover of Bowie)
UB40 - Red Red Wine (cover of Neil Diamond)
Metallica - Turn the Page (cover of Bob Seger)
Helloween - Lay Your Love On Me (cover of ABBA)

this keeps me on you tube for the night now lol

Metallica - Whiskey in the Jar (original by The Dubliners).

Matt Cardle - Hit me Baby one more time :p

agreed, Metallica's version is also better than the countless other covers of the song to

Nirvana's cover of man who sold the world is awesome - originally by David Bowie.

I prefer Nine Inch Nails cover of 'Hurt' by Johnny Cash.

Edit: derp.

Johnny Cash's version is the cover, NiN was the original version.

Whisky in the Jar is a cover...didn't know that!

Feeling Good- Muse
Nothing Compares to U- Sinead O'Connor
Man who sold the world- Nirvana
All along the watchtower- Jimi Hendrix
Respect- Aretha Franklin

And many others.....

Correct, i did not know that, assumed with Cash being an artist most active in the 60's and 70's that he wrote it then.

Not a big follower of NiN or a great fan of Cash, only heard the NiN version recently so assumed it was a cover. :)

Nirvana's cover of 'Lake of Fire' by Meat Puppets.

Higher Ground and Love Rollercoaster are two covers by The Red Hot Chili Peppers that i really like.

Check out escape the fate's cover of 'Smooth'. I thoroughly enjoy it, but I'm a bit weird like that

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

lostprophets - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex (Rachel Stevens) and Cry Me A River (JT) are both epic
Green Day's version of Knowledge is better than the operation ivy version imo
Millencolin do a decent version of 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton

these are mostly Punk covers of course, I enjoy them :)

Not to mention the Punk Goes... cover albums, but its been so long since I've heard them I can't remember any :/

most of my other ones have already been said - Reel Big Fish, Metallica etc

Whisky in the Jar is a traditional song, so "everyone" is technically covering it.

Motley Crue's Tonight is a good cover. Poison's Your Momma Don't Dance is also pretty awesome.
