Hi lads!
Tonight I was working on something else. I had a go with counter, possession, bunker, overload, contain, all sorts of tactics so far. And been looking at stats. Many stats. Clear cut chances, possession, shots on goal, shots on target and so on. But the most important stat is something I completely ignored. And that is goals. For and against. Tonight I realised, silly me, that goals is more important then all other stats. So tonight, I made an effort of creating tactic solely based on that stat, and disregarded all else.
I took Leeds, set everything to backroom staff, and disregarded the most important rule. Available players. This effort is supposed to make a tactic that will make every idiot score, so to speak, no offense intended, so I sat and thought about perfect tactics on paper, without giving thought on available personel. This is the wrong way to do things, but if I make it right, this will be the best tactic world has ever seen, and not even patches and game version and players will matter. It should work in LLM, Spain, Italy, Zimbabwe, everywhere. That is why I called it Superior.
Formation:
Most clubs in modern football use 4 players in attack. A false nine, droping deep and draging defenders with him, a false ten, the main goalscoring threat, one winger and one inside forward. It is a great system that offers variety in attack, and multiple options of scoring, so I decided to use it aswell. 4231 formation was my first choice. Then I counted the numbers, and it turned out I have 6 players in upper half, and only 4 in lower. So I pulled one player to DM position. Not only now I have more balanced formation in terms of pitch coverage, I also have aditional support to my defence.
Player roles and duties:
I wanted to make sure every team is capable of playing this, so I used a regular GK. Above him, and for the same reason, are 2 limited defenders. Above them, to the left is a BWMD. I chose this role as I beleive no great team in the world operates without him. Every team needs a dirty player, not afraid to tackle and get a card. As he will make aditional defending to the left, the left fullback will be more agressive, with attack duty. Above him will be the before mentioned inside forward with support duty. Those two roles fit perfectly together, and an inside forward on the left wing is rather common, as most people are right footed. The right fullback will need to be less agressive, as he doesn't have a DM next to him, and we need to defend from quality wingers, so he is on support duty. He will not be providing width to attack, so above him is a winger with attack duty. Those two roles also compliment each other perfectly. The MC will need to connect the defense and offense, so his natural duty is a box to box midfielder. Above him is a false ten (shadow striker) that serves as number 9. He is the main goalscoring threat. Above him is his natural partner, deep lying forward that drops deep and occupies opponents DM so my inside forward can cut in and effectively serves as number 10.
Philosophy:
I just took a new club, and ordered them an unfamiliar formation and style of play. My director of football will likely buy and sell many players, and I'm sure most of you do a lot of buying and selling, so there will be a lot of new faces at the club, unfamiliar with what I am asking of them, their position on the pitch, and quite possibly a strange role and duty. So I chose very rigid as my philosophy.
Team settings:
Scoring a goal is a matter of risk, amongst other things. You must also stretch your opponent both vertically and horizontally, so I decided to drop deeper and play wider. With already picked great roles in attack, it should be fairly easy to score now. The more you risk, the greater the reward. Instead of shorter passing and more cautious approach, I opted for more direct passing. I also chose more roaming and switching flanks to add unpredictabilty to attack, to increase chances of scoring. Our creativity with very rigid philosophy was on the low side, and I wanted magic if possible, so I opted for more expressive creative freedom. Tempo is high to catch them by surprise. Also, I opted for pumping ball into box, to keep my striker supplied in an effort to score.
Player instructions:
None. It is my beleif at the moment that you should only change this if you want to tweak someones role and duty, and I have no special requests for my players. Team settings should be enough.
Set pieces:
No changes. They work well as it is, and I really don't want to bother changing this prior to every match and target opponent weaknesess. Also, you may have a different player there, so might not work well.
Training, OI and all else:
As mentioned above, I left everything to my staff
Results:
Testing with Leeds atm and playing friendlies. So far so good, all victories.
