Arsenal in Premier League Triumph!

Arsenal last won the trophy in 2004, two years after they went unbeaten in the League for the whole season.

Arsenal secured a tightly fought victory against London rivals West Ham United to win their first trophy for over five years, and their first Premier League trophy for six long years.

Arsenal fans paraded through the streets of North London as the Team Coach started at the Emirates Stadium displayed their Premier League Winner's Medals and Trophy on the open-top bus. Summer signing Marouane Chamakh scored the winning goal in a match Arsenal dominated from start to finish, but found more difficult under the pressure than many expected as seen in the narrow 1-0 scoreline. After only five minutes, Arsenal got their first real chance of the match from an Andrey Arshavin freekick. The Russian clipped the ball towards the far post from a central position but Alex Song was unable to convert it, instead heading over the bar unmarked. 20 minutes later and this time Song was the creator, passing a well-weighted pass behind the West Ham backline for Samir Nasri to latch onto - Again though, Arsenal couldn't find a finish as the frenchman's shot was well saved by Robert Green. The Gunners continued to look dangerous and Chamakh and Fabregas were also denied by Green before some instinctive goalkeeping at the other end gave Arsenal the most important win of the season. Having made a routine catch, Fabianski saw a chance at the other end as he launched the ball forward with a huge kick - Chamakh, left up front on his own - latched onto the uncharacteristic long ball and finished well, dummying one-on-one before smashing the ball past the keeper from the edge of the box. The Hammers almost got straight back into it, however when a mazy Stanislas run was only denied a goal by a superb, diving save by Lukasz Fabianski. Robin Van Persie had the last chance of the match when a brilliant bit of skill gave him time to hit a volley goalwards, but once again the former England Number One denied him with a good save. Arsenal held on and the delight on the players' faces as they secured the title was evident - The fans were prevented from rushing onto the pitch, but the players' lap of honour was enough and it was fitting that they should win the league at home, where they have been so good this season.
