Crewe Alexandra manager Matthew Hawkins has shocked pundits and fans alike by publicly rejecting Premier League club Middlesbrough's offer of a 1 year contract

The troubled Prem club, who haven't left the relegation zone since October, have been embarrassed by the Welshman, who's chosen to stay at League 1 Crewe rather than leaving for the North East

Two time Welsh international Chris Mepham had been on the transfer list at Lionel Road for some time, having failed to break into the Brentford first team despite impressing on loan at Walsall and Coventry City in League 1, making a combined 75 league appearances over two seasons

I couldn't believe it when he signed, I kept offering him more until he said yes straight away. £8.5m release clause though...
