SENSATIONAL START TO LIFE IN CHAMPIONSHIP FOR ALEX
crewecrewealex-fans.jpg

Crewe's fans have been delighted with the club's blistering start to the Championship season, with some fans dreaming of back-to-back-to-back promotions

Manager Matthew Hawkins has masterminded the Railwaymen two three victories from their opening five games which included games against Premier League stalwarts Hull City and Sunderland

They opened the season with a 2-1 home defeat to Bristol City, before winning an enthralling League Cup battle with Scunthorpe United 4-3 after extra-time, with Brazilian new boy Egnaldo banging in a hat-trick

Then came Egnaldo's second hat trick in as many games as the Alex dispatched of Hull City 5-1 away from home despite going 1-0 down, Byron Barnes and Lloyd Isgrove with the other goals

A 2-0 home victory over Ipswich Town soon followed before poor goalkeeping performances from loanee Billy Crellin cost Alex dearly in a 2-1 defeat at Sunderland, as well as the 4-2 League Cup defeat to Norwich City

They followed this up, however, with a stunning 2-1 home victory over Cardiff City which has left them 6th in the Championship

CREWE'S INCONSISTENT FORM CONTINUES
JS62190896.jpg

Crewe Alexandra's inconsistent start to life in the Championship has continued, with the Alex picking up 2 wins and 3 losses in September

Their fixtures this month were a mixed bag as they faced off against recent Premier League side Huddersfield Town and Championship stalwarts like Derby County and Preston North End

Crewe began the month a 5-2 defeat to Huddersfield at the John Smith's Stadium, featuring a Henry Onyekuru hat-trick for the hosts, before overcoming Blackburn Rovers 2-0 at home

Two defeats followed for the Railwaymen as they fell 3-1 to bitter rivals Preston north End and 2-0 to a Derby County side who are beginning their 14th straight season in England's second tier

They rounded the month off with a comfortable 2-0 victory over fellow recently promoted side Walsall at Banks's Stadium

FANTASTIC MONTH SEES CREWE FLY UP THE TABLE
1200px-Crewe_Alexandra.svg.png

A four game unbeaten streak has seen Crewe Alexandra fly up the Sky Bet Championship table as they seem to b acclimatising with their new surroundings with ease

10 points gained from a possible 12 has seen the rest of the division starting to sit and take notice of the lowly Railwaymen taking the division by storm

The first game of the month saw Rob Atkinson bag his first Crewe goal in dramatic fashion, scoring a late winner in a 3-2 victory over Middlesbrough, which saw Hawkins clash with Boro boss Frank De Boer after the match

The Alex followed this up with a 2-1 away victory over Charlton Athletic with Atkinson getting his second in two games as well as a goal for Brazilian hotshot Egnaldo

A 4-0 thrashing of Sheffield United followed before Crewe almost completed a perfect month as they drew 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday, despite Alex leading 2-0 through Egnaldo's 15th and 16th goals of the season

16 goals already? Wow, looking like a steal already. Keep it up mate, making it look easy. Draws are for sissies anyway

SMELLS LIKE TEAM SPIRIT

Crewe Alexandra continue to keep up the pace in the Championship following a haul of 8 points from 15 possible in November

A rough start through a 92nd minute defeat at Norwich seemingly inspired Crewe as the side rallied to finish November unbeaten

A draw at home to Newcastle United followed before back to back victories against Birmingham City and Leeds United propelled Alex up the table

They finished the month with a 1-1 draw away against division leaders Burnley as the Railwaymen continually confound the pundits

Just caught up with this and great to see the loyalty paying off. Out of interst whose in charge of Newcastle these days, can't imagine it's still Rafa with them being back in the Championship

CHRISTMAS SLUMP OVER?
crewe.gif

Crewe have won their first league game in more than a month as they end January on a high

Decent performances in early December had faded away following their Boxing Day win over Bolton Wanderers, which had been preceded by a 3-0 thrashings of Bristol City and Brighton, as well as a draw against QPR and a defeat to Wolves

2-2 draws against Hull and Ipswich followed before a 4-0 home defeat to lowly Sunderland as injuries have taken hold of Matthew Hawkins' squad

A 1-1 FA Cup draw with Ebbsfleet followed before a 3-1 loss to Cardiff City. Since then, however, form has improved with a 3-0 replay victory over Ebbsfleet, a 3-1 victory over Huddersfield Town and a 1-0 FA Cup Fourth Round win over Derby County

Crewe Alexandra have also brought in Dave Pilkington from TNS for £3,000 and Dwight Gayle on loan from Newcastle United for a season

Dwight Gayle is usually dynamite in the championship so he could be a cracking loan signing for you

EGNALDONE
crewe.gif

Crewe Alexandra's star striker Egnaldo has today returned to Brazil after Santos have activated his £8.5m release clause

The Brazilian Under 20 international has been key for Crewe this season, scoring 22 goals in 29 league games for the Railwaymen

Egnaldo has left after the English deadline meaning Crewe can't bring anyone in

Crewe currently sit eighth at the end of February following Egnaldo's absence but have an FA Cup Sixth Round tie at Stamford Bridge to look forward to

END OF SEASON

March, April and May, all in one!

View attachment 64924
The post-Egnaldo decline is obvious. 1 win in our final 11 league games including some embarrassing defeats which was the complete opposite of our league form in 2021. Our late form was the result of injuries as well as Egnaldo's absence, who's replacement, Dwight Gayle, only managed 2 goals and 6 starts as he was out for a total of 12 weeks with 3 separate injuries. So where did that leave us?

View attachment 64923
View attachment 64922
Yep. 10th, a massive 13 points off 6th placed QPR, that's ridiculous based on our early season form, had we carried that on we'd have easily finished in the playoffs but the collapse was embarrassing, we only managed 30 goals in 2022, compared to 47 in 2021. Ridiculous.

View attachment 64921
Egnaldo was still our top scorer.

View attachment 64920
Egnaldo should have gotten every award

View attachment 64919
Yay, a pointless expansion that massively eats into my budgets.

As you can see, this season and the Egnaldo issue has left me angry and bitter, I've been overlooked for jobs with Hull, Middlesbrough, West Ham, Leicester and more for lesser managers. I'm very bitter.

Roll on 2022/23

That's a ridiculous transfer budget....but also a high expectation to achieve top half finish. Depends just how bitter you are at Crewe?
