HAWKINS' DEPARTURE ROCKS CREWE
1200px-West_Bromwich_Albion.svg.png

Crewe Alexandra have been rocked by manager Matthew Hawkins' departure to Premier League West Bromwich Albion

The Premier League side have been constants in the division since their promotion under Roberto di Matteo in 2009/10 and last season finished 9th in the Premier League

The Baggies are thought to have offered Hawkins a significant archest aswell as a raise to £30,000 per week, a vast increase on his £3,000 per week contract at Crewe Alexandra

Hawkins has left the Railwaymen just 4 days before the Championship season kicks off away at Wolverhampton Wanderers

At the start of the season I think you'd have taken a top half finish but to see it finish the way it did must be hard! I'd have taken the jump to West Brom as well!

Bleuch. Here's to the next job! :)
Boing boing

I thought we'd be in a relegation fight when we went up, so I'd have definitely taken 10th. But to fall from where we were with just 1 win in our last 11 games and our star striker leaving after deadline day was ridiculous

I'm West Brom boss! In the Premier League! This is fun

West Brom are, historically, a big club. Nowadays they are a stable Premier League club, having finished 11th last season which saw Eddie Howe leave for the England job

We have 5 FA Cups in the trophy cabinet as well as a First Division title. We have a 26,445 capacity stadium and room to grow. I like it.

SQUAD

We have a very good squad, with some exceptional talents. I'm actually shocked at how good this squad is, shocked in a good way. We have good cover, top players everywhere, the only position lacking is a defensive midfielder, I'll get one next summer

KEY PLAYERS
Like I said, some good players

JACK BUTLAND
View attachment 64680
The 54 time England international came in from Stoke for just £17.25m in 2019. Since then he's made 108 league appearances for us, missing just 8 games since his arrival

OLIVER BURKE
View attachment 64679
A constant in the West Brom team since he returned from a season spent a season on loan at Fulham in 2018/19 and has put in good performances for years now. Attracting interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool

ROB HOLDING
View attachment 64678
Another cheap pickup, only £7m from an Arsenal and an ever present since, making 103 Premier League appearances for West Brom, yet to play for England which is surprising

WILL HUGHES
View attachment 64677
Another bargain! He cost only £4.3m from Watford

GIOVANI LO CELSO
View attachment 64676
He's really good but I'm not sure he fits in here. A free transfer from River Plate last season but any bids of £30m+ and he's gone

KAJ SIERHUIS
View attachment 64675
Our starting striker, we need better if we want to challenge for Europe, but he'll do for now

TACTICS

BUSY NIGHT AT HAWTHORNS AS HAWKINS COMPLETES SQUAD
The-Hawthorns-before-West-Bromwich-Albion-v-Arsenal.png

New West Bromwich Albion manager Matthew Hawkins has been a very busy man, bringing in 6 players on deadline day

Hawkins, who supplemented his budget with the sales of DeAndre Yedlin (£8.5m - Valencia) and Jake Livermore (£5m - Reading)

First in were a young duo from Hawkins' former club, Crewe Alexandra, as West Brom brought in youngsters Ian Owen and Charlie McDonnell for a combined fee of £6m

The two youngsters were in high demand in the summer, with clubs such as Aston Villa interested in the pair, but Hawkins swooped and the duo returned to the squad of their old manager
View attachment 64599 View attachment 64598

Next up, a South American duo as West Brom brought in Gustavo Aguado from Club America for £3m and Muriel from Corinthians for £5.75m

Aguado, a Mexican international, scored 3 goals in 8 league games for Club America, with the 19 year old impressing a number of clubs

Muriel, also 19, is a Brazilian Under 20 international and is yet to make a professional appearance

After these signings came the first first team signing, with West Bromwich Albion signing Hirving Lozano from Barcelona for £19.25m

Lozano, 27, joined Barcelona from PSV in 2018/19 and, after a promising first couple of seasons, soon fell out of favour, making just 3 league appearances last season

Lozano has 17 goals in 47 appearances for Mexico and was part of Mexico's 2019 Gold Cup victory

And last but not least is Konrad Laimer, who's joined West Brom from PSG for £7.5m

Laimer, 25, made just 15 appearances for PSG after joining from Red Bull Leipzig in 2020, spending last season on loan at AC Milan

Laimer has 58 caps for Austria and was part of their incredible run to the World Cup Semi Final last summer, losing 2-0 to eventual runners up England and also losing the Third Placed Playoff against fellow outsiders Switzerland

Brilliant one minute, completely incompetent the next

Inconsistent is definitely the word! Proper mid-table form for a mid-table team, well at least until this season. :P Hopefully you can find some consistency and move up the table over the course of the season.

Definitely a more impressive month there and the league position has improved too. Good stuff.
