EL VOLCANO 3-4-1-2 | Tactical Eruption

As I promised my friend @koronis that I will check Millwall by myself so this morning I decided to build a team around and start this new challenge
Probably I will finish season in Premiership and leave a game save here for those Millwall fan's who struggle.

I forgot the Premier League rule that you can only play 5 loan players per match 😅
That made recruitment a bit tricky because its cheaper and easier to bring quality on loan. Still, managed to put together a competitive squad,I will do the same in January tranfer window, always looking to improve the team.

Results so far (15 games played):
13 wins
1 draw
1 loss

Top of the league.

The only defeat was a very strange home game against Wrexham, who actually dominated me with a 3-4-2-1 system. The two AMCs caused all kinds of problems and, fair play, they deserved it.

But as always — when I lose, I study the game.
I realised that against systems with 2 AMCs, I need more protection centrally, especially in the DM area. So I created a new version with two DMs, called “Fortress” 🛡️.

I already tested it against Preston, who play in a similar way — and I completely dominated that match.
I’ll introduce Fortress soon as an alternative version specifically for teams like Wrexham,or having an option when oposition dominate in those area behind our 2 CM.

As for IL Volcano — it still works like a charm. No changes needed there.

And yes, before someone asks 😏
The game is saved only twice.
I’ll leave screenshots of that too, because apparently for some people that’s the most important tactical instruction...

Well done that's top class results so far, wish you good luck until the end.
I am asking could you do the same for me with Burnley as I struggle to get CL football with them.
At least to prepare the season, doing the transfers for me, because somehow I always pick wrong players and I don't have so much of experience.
I would apriciate it.

I will do it, no worries 👍
Just give me a bit of time. I want to properly finish the Millwall save first, then I can fully focus on preparing Burnley for season 1.

Being a father of a newborn doesn’t really help my FM schedule 😅 My FM satisfaction is limited to a few hours per day at best. I still love the game, but real life sometimes presses very high intensity 😂

I’ll get to Burnley as soon as I can and do it properly, not rushed.

I'm glad you tested the tactics with mllwall, otherwise I've been playing FM for years and it's not a big club to be taken, they have players personnel everything. Millwall is limited and that's why it's a challenge to start with a smaller club and make a result. And I think that the additional weight is that I put the profile of the manager at the lowest descriptive grades. A team that develops tactics is always a test with Liverpool, PSG, Bayern, Man City. Give me a smaller club and let's see how it goes.
Only Millwall.
ON ONE LIKES US

Agreed! It’s also promoting that get it up to the forwards asap with killer through balls that I’ve desperately missed since the fm12-fm14 days.
Yes mate that was the goal, plus I also sometimes swich to whipped crosses during the game to confuse AI and often works. You get that killer pass 1vs1 situation.

I can smell a proper Millwall fan here :D
I like challenge and this one It will be, but still in my opinion after you get promotion its easy in PL because you get money and possibility to build a proper team to fight for the trophies

Looks great!!! I wiil try again, thanks!

@Babemocni1988 do you mind if I share my strikerless and triple poacher tweaks here? 2nd in Premiership and FA Cup 1st season with Bournemouth using the Strikerless tweak in the final half and just won the Premiership AND Champions League 2nd season using Strikerless and then triple poacher for the final half of the season.
Don't want to make a new thread as its not my tactic, its 99% yours with a couple of tweaks thrown in :)

Millwall Defy the Odds Again – Top of the League on 24 January

Millwall continue their incredible Championship run with a stunning 5–1 victory, despite playing over an hour with ten men. The Lions showed character, intensity, and tactical discipline, turning adversity into yet another statement win.
I needed to show the result of this incredible game against rivals.
What a match!

As of 24 January, Millwall sit top of the league with a massive 15-point advantage, a position few would have predicted at the start of the season. Performances like this explain why.

This match also marked further testing of mixed crosses, last 5 matches, following FM Arenna league testing which showed small but consistent improvements in results. Within the IL Volcano tactic, the effect has been even more noticeable, with goals coming from multiple areas and better overall balance in attack.

The save is extremely enjoyable right now, the team is flying, trying to improve the team on market and unless something dramatic changes, this Millwall journey is far from over. Momentum is strong, confidence is high — and the Lions just keep roaring.

🔥🦁 :D

What do you do when you get red card?

@Babemocni1988 the best tactics for you is already El Volcano v2 ?
Of course it’s not the best tactic 🙂
On this Match Engine, strikerless systems are clearly stronger overall.
IL Volcano v2 is built around my philosophy.
I simply enjoy playing with two strikers, especially the TF + DLF combination. That’s the football I like to play.
For me, it works well, it gives me incredible results, and most importantly – I enjoy the game using it.
It’s the only tactic I use, and it’s more than good enough for me to have fun with FM.

@Babemocni1988
Hi
Thanks for the great tactics
I just have question: what should you do when you're leading to avoid conceding a goal in the dying minutes of a match?
and you change mentality during the match?

Millwall: Champions, Memories, and a New Beginning

What a season. What a ride.
Millwall are Championship winners with 107 points – a campaign that honestly exceeded every expectation from day one.

From early struggles, squad limitations, and league rules that punished cheap loan solutions, to total dominance over 46 games, this team grew into true champions. Consistency was the key: results, mentality, and belief. Week after week, Millwall delivered.

The FA Cup run added even more drama. Reaching the semi-final and losing only on penalties against Manchester United says everything about the character of this squad. Against one of the strongest teams in the game, Millwall didn’t just survive – they competed. That match was also the moment where I introduced a new tactical idea.

Volcano Fortress 3-4-1-2 (Double DM)

Alongside the classic Volcano system, I tested Volcano Fortress 3-4-1-2 with two DMs, especially designed to face teams like Manchester United who play with double AMCs.
The idea is simple:

  • Almost the same attacking structure
  • Much stronger protection in the DM zone
  • Better control of central areas against top opposition
It worked well in the biggest matches and gives me another powerful option depending on the opponent.

Leaving Millwall in a Strong Position

Football Manager 26 03_02_2026 16_22_02.webp

As promised to Millwall fans, I will leave the save available to continue. And whoever takes over is getting a dream scenario:

  • Fresh Championship champions
  • £57M transfer budget
  • Entire squad sellable to generate even more money
  • Immediate opportunity to build a competitive Premier League side
If I’m being honest, most of the current squad is not Premier League level in my opinion. I would sell almost everyone – maybe only Makengo at left wing-back is worth keeping. But that’s the beauty of it:
a clean slate, huge budget, and endless possibilities.

Final Thoughts

This season with Millwall was pure entertainment.I spended hours just on transfer window to make this happened. Challenges, big wins, crazy moments, and unforgettable matches. It’s exactly why I love Football Manager.

Will I continue with Millwall in season two?
Honestly… I’m not sure.
If someone have ideas let me know 😉

But one thing is certain:
Millwall are champions, the club is set up perfectly for the Premier League, players can be sold, money is there, and the next manager has an incredible opportunity ahead.
For those accusing me of scamming, actually motivates me :D
The save game is there.
Save is public.
Facts are there.
Enjoy it. 🦁🔥
@koronis Millwall fan mate this is for you ;)
