Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I am enjoying skyrim for now, but I can see that the game is Huuuuuuuuuuge and it will take me a year or two to complete it with my current timetable :D At least I have something to play alongside FM in 2012 :D

so huge that it got 9.5/10 rating form IGN :)

Everyone on Monday after a weekend of #Skyrim...

Got home yesterday and started it up...amazing game so far! Racked up about 4 hours, which is alot seeing how I was half asleep.

Chose argoinian so I can swim about and still breathe, might come in handy if I need to make a quick get away!

Already been attacked by a gang of hired thugs and an assasin. Not sure who I have ****** off yet.

Been stealing a fair bit and one of the hired goons said somthing like "this will teach you not to steal". Wankers.

I think this will be sucking up alot of hours.

What kind of character has everyone else chosen?

A few of my pals have played it and they have a few concerns (based on the PC version) -
  • UI is a console port and extremely clunky for PC users.
  • Graphics for PC (on max) is identical to Oblivion.
  • Combat feels clunky when compared to Dark Souls, and even Mount & Blade.
  • The combat/level scaling is really annoying.
  • Item system is annoying.
  • The immersion feeling is good, even though it's no Witcher.
  • Voice acting is still so-so.
  • Quests aren't as enjoyable as Morrowind's (and the different guilds are located in a single city instead of in all).
  • The "Just wait for Game of the Year edition so you can have all the DLC+Expansions" for the same price-feeling.
  • Bugs (though not quite previous TES levels).
Anyone want to comment?

Performance on PC version is horrid at the moment, ranging from 20-60 fps at the moment on max despite being way over the recommended requirements, the UI is abysmal on PC and just feels like it is designed for a controller, voice acting is okay but nothing more.

Having one really annoying graphical bug after around an hour of playing as well, with some walls and peoples faces disappearing with a large void replacing them.

Quite like the combat myself, although sometimes it does feel pretty meh. Graphics are definitely an improvement over Oblivion but you can tell that it is just a modified Gamebryo engine.

The more I'm reading above, the less I'm actually wanting it... Is the 360 version better?

Probably at the moment, but that is having some texture issues from what I have heard.

I'm sure the PC version will be sorted out by a mixture of Bethesda patches, community patches/mods and some drivers updates.

Apart from all those issues, it is a brilliant game; when it works properly.

Quick tip for anyone thinking of buying this game: Don't buy it on PC.

[btw, don't actually take my advice. I'm just raging at how horrible playing it on PC is. Sell-outs. :(]

not surprised about the pc issues, as the games is so so high in detail that u really need a high-end pc (which i cant afford ;) ). i hope it gets fixed. but the xbox360 version is better to say the least.

bring the dark elf rocks, all time resistant to fire damage. haha, bring it on dragons, u cant cook me. ;)

and has anyone experiencing minor glitches, like flying mammoths XD LOL !!!

I've only put an hour into the game thus far on PC, and you can tell instantly that the interface was built for a gamepad.

the best thing about buying for PC is better graphics, cheaper and loads of custom mods to download. Why is the interface so bad? (don't have the game). Buying a gamepad could solve all these issues surely?

Even when run on max specs it's bad.

Is anyone else finding it particularly difficult to attack [on PC] clicking the mouse [M1] is often unresponsive, despite M2 working perfectly and sometimes my character randomly does finishing moves at the start of a fight. It's either the games fault, the PC's fault or it's meant to be that way. I hope it's not either of the latter two.

Yeah, I've put a couple of hours in. I'm finding it so hard to get into, mainly due to the horrid layout. Graphics are alright though, even on my uninspiring graphics card. Better than XBOX at least.

The UI is wank, clearly designed for a controller. Having to press left and up and **** just to access the menu. Then the strange combination of having to use a mouse on some menu's and buttons on others. What's up with that? The buttons in-game are all over the place and completely random. I will probably resort to downloading a mod so I can assign my own buttons or using my XBOX controller.. Don't want to though.

For me it's great. Are you playing in HD?

I've not played it; it's from computer reviews with state-of-the-art desktops who can't get more than 60fps and the graphics are bad on computers. Basically, it's badly optimised for computers and they've decided to cater to console kiddies.

Jesus, I sound like a grumpy fart.

Welcome to my world lol

I have not played it either, but from what I have read and seen the graphics are the best on PC - which is usually the case. As for FPS, 95% of people don't need more than 60fps because most monitor refresh rates are 60Hz.
