Hit the nail on the head there. I coach at youth level too and the standard of training (in genaral) is nowhere near the level of some other countries. Brazilians, French and Spanish people are not born as amazing footballers -- they start of the same as us, but their coaching genarally focuses on the individual skills of players rather than the archaic 'win at all costs' attitude that still runs through our youth levels.
exactly, but instead of realising this our country just whines and lokos for quick fixes like the 6v5 rule, yeah you'd have more english players, but they'd still on average be mediocre

i don't think there is any need to argue with themadsheep as he's pretty much spot on.

I wish the FA would just get their heads out their own arses and focus on the fundamentals of football and instead of critisizing clubs for not doing enough, provide local areas with quality facilities that improve kids technique.

I can't say much about england but I'd say its similar enough to Ireland. Kids play seven a side on pitches just shy of a full size pitch until they are thirteen or fourteen. A pitch big enough that the most important skills are hoofing the ball far enough.

England just has a bigger population and so preoduced a better team than Ireland out of lucking out.

This is one of the many reason's i want to coach a team or school, (despite being 17)
becuase the fundamentals of football need changing.

If someone had got me in Year 6 to play 5 or 7 a side football, i'd be so much better.

I recently moved to Ireland and am coaching an under-10s team on a seven a-side pitch. Next year, I'm coaching the Under-11s -- I've been told by the club Chairman that the Under-11s league is played on FULL-SIZE ADULT pitches :O with FULL-SIZE GOALS -- despite our goalkeeper being 4 foot 8-ish (give or take a little) oO)

lol, thanks for the support. what reall angers me about this is that, im not some ultra knowledgable guy about football, im sure there are many many people who know more than me. but if we can see where the problems lies. why cant the FA? and if can see it, why arent they taking action? there is not quick fix to this, and until we as a nation accept this we'll always be playing catch up

Jonjo Shelvey is by far the best English talent in the game :)
