That's why I mentioned the good sense and the bad sense. Normally people have to think twice but I'd advise you to think three times in this case :)

well he may have said it in the good sense or in the bad sense, but since it's not exactly good for him I would bet on the bad sense.

I'd advice you to read what you post, you said you bet on bad sense so only I quoted you.

Both of us had criticisms of Hodgson, but I think its fair to give him leniency for the short about of time he had. But I will be looking for him to develop a system. For me that must be either a 4-2-3-1 with two holding players (ideally one more creative than the other) or a 4-1-2-2-1, because we are very very bad at defending the space between the defence and midfield without the midfield collapsing onto itself. I have no idea if Gerrard will continue, but it should not be in midfield.

I agree he should now find a different way to play with different players etc but anyone giving him stick can go do one!!! He inherited a side weeks from a major tournament and made the best out of a pretty bad situation. He also got injuries and players rejecting his call up/on the stand by list so i'd say he done a fantastic job.

Over rated and lucky England met one strong Italian side. .

I dont have to multi quote you as GC has already addressed and ripped your arguement (if there was one into pieces).

What did you say? One strong Italian side? The side that scored 1 goal from open play in 4 games? Which also included games against Ireland?

The one strong Italian team that couldn't score a goal in 120 mins against injury ravaged England team who also made last min managerial appointment? If this is what you call a strong italian team then I would be scared to be an Italian and assume what average team might look like.

Are you guys for real? It was obvious sign of expressing something unbelievable. If anything it just shows how much Owen was stunned to see Pirlo attempting that chip.

meh i was just fooling around.

what about barton's version :P

I'll post who i think should be in the starting 11 for 2 years time in Brazil.

Hart, Walker, Cahill, Smalling, Bertrand if he gets a decent amount of games), Wilshere, Rodwell (same as Bertrand), Oxlade Chamberlain, Rooney, Walcott and Carroll.

(subject to change)

Terry - Jones
Parker - good question. Could be Jones, Huddlestone (if ever fit), Rodwell (if proves fitness)
Gerrard - Wilshere
Cole - Baines
Lampard - McEachran (sp)
Barry - Shelvey, Henderson
Ferdie - Smalling
Obviosuly could pick other players in there, just picked first names that came to mind. Variety of options. Ball winning mid is probably most concerning for me (unless I've missed someone obvious)

More importantly is the change in system. Not sure why we stuck to 4-4-2. Its the least played formation by the top sides, and thus the core of the english team.

Terry - Jags or Cahill.

That's why mine is 4-2-3-1. I can see why he didn't change much this tournament though.

Thanks i was thinking some of these players but players like huddlestone, mceachran, shelvey, carrol, milner, spearing, kelly,AOC,cleverly dont feature regular for there clubs do you think that will hinder there step up into euro/world cup comp?

Terry - Jags or Cahill.
I was mostly trying to say younger players who aren't in squad/ playing at all. But yes Jags or terry would do well, though isn't Jags 29 now?

I cant, not against Italy. We got hammered by 4 vs 2 in midfield.

Think he just stuck with what he had, also think it was either Rooney's or Welbeck's job to close down Pirlo much quicker or at all to act as a midfield 3 at times.

Spearing can stay the **** away from the England squad :P
Huddlestone would play but is constantly injured, Mceachran, Shelvey, Kelly, AOC, cleverely (forgot him) will play more with experience. Carroll should get more time with Liverpool this season (improved end of season), so much competition at city im not sure how much Milner will play next season. Was benched for last part of season, will see if it continues next season

Both were playing higher, up the pitch. Think it was Rooney's but for whatever reason he didnt do it, should have made the change, make him sit deep in midfield instead, or take him off.

Never expected much going into this tournament, our centre mids were Gerrard, Parker and Henderson!! We were crying out for a Pirlo or even half a Pirlo. Roy is technically still unbeaten. Attacking play will improve as the players adapt to the system.
