I need some advice to place logos on the socks... how to get them looking right?

I haven't actually made any kits yet with this template yet, but try using the transform tool (Ctrl + T) to get the angle of the image right. Then make a selection of the sock layer, invert it and delete any excess parts of the logo.
If you want to be non-destructive you could use a mask instead of just deleting the excess.
