Dan - yeah it was an absolute bargain. i dont think he was getting many games so he put himself on the transfer list. was asking for 70k wages! but I only gave him 34k and key player status and he took it :L. looks the business next to huntelaar, who's a poacher, really.
nunopeixinho - thanks mate, hope you're enjoying it (y)

FEBRUARY 2011

FC Schalke 04 1 - 0 VFL Wolfsburg
1. Bundesliga
Hoewedes (20)
43209_news.jpg

Schalke edged out their opponents and champions Wolfsburg at the Veltins-Arena this evening and gave themselves a boost to their title hopes. Schalke dominated the entire afternoon, with Grafite certainly playing like he had a point to prove. Him and Huntelaar created numerous opportunities for each other in the first half, really testing an on-fire Benaglio. But the breakthrough came when a superb Lewis Holtby corner found Hoewedes rising high above his man, and he headed home with aplomb. Schalke the victors and they continue to grind out victories.

Borussia Monchengladbach 1 - 1 FC Schalke 04 (Borussia win 6-5 on penalties)
DFB-Pokal, Quarter-Final
Metzelder (68)
439x.jpg

Schalke will be dissapointed with how they threw away a lead against 10-man Borussia Monchengladbach this evening, and it cost them as their last real chance of silverware this season went out of the window. There was only 3 minutes on the clock when Branko Ilic was dismissed for a reckless lunge on Jefferson Farfan, but Schalke failed to make the difference count until the 68th minute when Metzelder headed home a Joel Matip corner. They continued to push for a second but in the 92nd minute, Monchengladbach won a corner, and Neustaedter rose to head Monchengladbach back into the tie. Grafite and Huntelaar both took injuries into extra-time and were taken off, to be replaced by Edu and Raul, but the two were unable to capitalise on the 10 man advantage and things were made worse when Christoph Metzelder had himself sent off on the stroke of half time. The game went to penalties, and Levan Kenia missed the crucial penalty to send Schalke out.

VFB Stuttgart 0 - 1 FC Schalke 04
1. Bundesliga
Grafite (12)
grafite_pokal.jpg

Schalke got back to winning ways in the Bundesliga with a narrow win against Stuttgart. With just 10 minutes gone, Jurado displayed some tricky footwork to find some space in the box before firing at the keeper, but his parry only fell to the feet of Grafite who slammed into an empty net. Stuttgart were unable to find a way past the new defence of Schalke, that were proving stern to even the best of strike forces.

FC Schalke 04 2 - 1 Bayern Muenchen
1. Bundesliga
Huntelaar (2), Edu (47)
1462213_w2.jpg

Illyroy finally got his own back against Muenchen after cruelly losing to them earlier in the season. Muenchen were sat comfortably at the top of the table prior to this game, but will now be looking over their shoulders. Bayern started straight on the offensive, but were caught out as Huntelaar sprung the offside trap to race the length of Munich's half and slam the ball in off the post, past a helpless Eduardo. Schalke caught Munich cold straight after the half time interval as well; Jurado collected the ball after a Schweinsteiger corner and slammed it up to the chasing Edu, who controlled before finishing beautifully on his left foot. Munich pressed for a goal, and were rewarded when Demichelis' deflected shot flew over the bewildered Neuer. But that was as good as Munich got in a game which will be remembered for Schalke's clinical finishing.

FC Schalke 04 0 - 0 Liverpool
UEFA Champions League, 1st Knockout Round
ReinaSave_468x385.jpg

Schalke were drawn against English giants Liverpool for the first Knockout round and despite the goalless scoreline, the game did not dissapoint. Both teams had chances, but unfortunately for them the keepers were in fine form. Bertrand was guilty of missing a superb opportunity, after some beautiful work from Hoewedes and Grafite and he was left one on one with Reina, who pulled off a quite magnificent save. Liverpool also had their chances, but Schalke will be the happier team, who managed not to concede an away goal.

HSV 3 - 2 FC Schalke 04
1. Bundesliga
Edu (48), Baumjohann (85)
maxim-choupomoting,templateId=renderScaled,property=Bild,height=349.jpg

Schalke lost their first game in 6 against a superb Hamburg side. Schalke started the brightest, but were caught flat when the veteran Ze Roberto slammed home a wonderful 30 yard free-kick. Schalke had taken a blow, and failed to deal with Choupo-Moting as he ran riot in the defense. He was first played through before chipping Neuer quite fantastically, before rounding off his performance with a great scissor kick. There seemed no way back for Schalke, but Edu gave them a lifeline straight away, beating 4 men before slamming into the roof of the net. Hamburg stood strong, however, until Mathijsen was sent off with five minutes to go. Baumjohann then scrambled in the free-kick, but there was no time for any more dramatics, and Schalke left the Nordbank-Arena empty handed.

HOOGLAND APOLOGISES TO MANAGER
467339488-hoogland_getty.9.jpg

In an extraordinary turn of events, Tim Hoogland saved his Schalke career by back-tracking on his comments against his manager:
"I realise it was very foolish on my behalf to speak out against the manager, and will be doing my utmost in training to re-affirm my spot in the side."
This will come as welcome news to the manager; with Sarpei reaching the ripe age of 35, Schalke would have been looking for a replacement back-up for Theophile-Catherine, but will now be able to have Hoogland as back-up.

HUNTELAAR AND GRAFITE BLOW FOR SCHALKE
huntelaar_injured.jpg

grafite-am-boden-514.jpg

Schalke were dealt a double-blow against Liverpool, with their two key strikers both being ruled out for up to 3 weeks. The two have struck up a decent partnership in the past couple of weeks, and coming in to the business end of the season, it will be a big blow to their ambitions.

Manager's Thoughts
"An encouraging month; we were naive in the loss against Monchengladbach, but the lads repaid me with that superb win against Bayern. We've pulled things back together quite magnificently since January and I really can't give the lads any grief for the result against Hamburg, especially with our two key strikers out.
On the other hand, I'm delighted with the defence at the moment. The two young full-backs [Theophile-Catherine and Bertrand] have shown some superb talent, bombing up the wings but also some extreme maturity in tracking back and that can only help us in the future. There is some truth in us looking to bring Bertrand in on a permanent basis.."

How is Kenia developing? He is doing a good job for me, but need one or two break in a full season.

Kenia's getting on very well, he's second in my list of top assists. Unfortunately I rate Wijnaldum and Rakitic above him so he might get loaned out next season. Should develop into a top player though.

MARCH 2011

FC Schalke 04 2 - 0 Alemmania Aachen
1. Bundesliga
Hoewedes (45, 58)
images

The superb Hoewedes won the day for Schalke against a resilient Aachen side. Despite having only picked up 8 points so far this campaign, Aachen gave a good battle, but finally caved when Schalke's dominating centre-half rose to slam home a Holtby corner. He struck from a free kick next to ensure 3 more points for the ever-improving Koenigsblauen.

FC Koeln 2 - 3 FC Schalke 04
1. Bundesliga
Hoewedes (41), Huntelaar (81, 89)
schalke-04-da-co-huntelaar.jpg

This game will forever be remembered as 'the great escape'. Schalke looked set for a disastrous loss with Koeln leading 2-1 with 10 minutes to go. But a second yellow for Petit meant that the hosts were down to 10 men and the fantastic Huntelaar capitalised. From the resulting free kick, Jurado set Bertrand down the left wing and he whipped in a superb cross for Huntelaar to head home. And with minutes to spare, a long Neuer free-kick was flicked on by Huntelaar, and it looped over Koeln for an unthinkable victory. Chihi's goals either side of another superb Hoewedes header were cancelled out and Schalke left with 3 points when it seemed like no points were certain.

Liverpool 1 - 4 FC Schalke 04
UEFA Champions League, 1st Knockout Round, 2nd Leg
Jurado (45+2, 65), Huntelaar (72), Raul (84)
jj.jpg

Liverpool were smashed at home in a quite remarkable game for Illyroy's Schalke side. They started the game in a diamond formation, and the hosts took control of the game. Pressing and pressing, they finally found a gap when Kuyt played a one-two with Torres, before smashing past Neuer. But Schalke knew just one goal would be enough to send them through. A change of shape later, and they were back in the game. Truly a man for the big occasions, Jurado picked up on Farfan's rebounded shot to tuck home and send the away fans crazy. Liverpool were chasing the game and they pushed all their men forward in search of that winning goal. Unfortunately they were punished by a clinical Schalke side. A superb Annan through ball met the onrunning Jurado who rounded Reina before tapping into an open net and running to the fans, before Huntelaar scored a quite superb 3rd, dribbling in from the left flank before curling into the bottom corner from 25 yards. With his race run, on came veteran Raul and he showed Liverpool what they were lacking, sneaking ahead of his man to slide home a superb Kenia cross. A five star display from the German's who will now play Olympique Marseille in the Semi-Finals.

FC Schalke 04 1 - 2 Borussia Dortmund
1. Bundesliga
Rakitic (71)
dortmund-schalke-analyse-514.jpg

Unfortunately for fans of Schalke, derby days do not seem to be this manager's forte as he once again suffered at the hands of Rangelov and co. Kringe put Dortmund ahead with a sweet volley just before the break, but Rakitic found space on the angle to slide home the equaliser. But to their credit, Dortmund probed and probed and Sahin found the gap for Rangelov who chipped over the oncoming Neuer into the back of the net. A defeat, but small price for the victory against Liverpool. Next up, Marseille in the Champions League.

FC Schalke 04 2 - 1 Olympique Marseille
UEFA Champions League, Quarter-Final, 1st Leg
Farfan (56), Jurado (65)
_46775933_farfan_ap766.jpg

Jurado was once more the hero for Schalke, on a rememberable night in March. After a tight first half, OM got the all important away goal right on the stroke of half time, Carrizzo slamming home a well-worked corner. But Schalke replied after the break, and Farfan managed to bundle home Amedick's header, which had hit the frame of Mandanda's goal. And just 10 minutes later, Farfan was tearing down the right flank, and crossing in to the back stick where Jurado was on hand to give Schalke an incredible lead going into the 2nd leg. All eyes will be on the Stade Velodrome next week.

Borussia Monchengladbach 1 - 2 FC Schalke 04
1. Bundesliga
Huntelaar (36), Wijnaldum (62)
wijnaldum_222330b.jpg

A stonking effort from youngster Wijnaldum won the day for Schalke, who earned their payback for the DFB-Pokal Quarter-Final defeat. Reus gave Monchengladbach the lead but Huntelaar pegged them back almost immediately, taking on his man before hitting the ball in off the post. With half an hour to go, young Goerginio Wijnaldum stepped up to dispatch a quiet brilliant free-kick, sending it into the top corner of the net. Schalke move up to 4th.

439x.jpg

The Schalke boys earned their right to celebrate after dispatching of the mighty Liverpool. Olympique Marseille now stand in their way of European glory.

Manager's Thoughts
"We've really come on a long way, and I'm absolutely delighted with our progress. The win against Liverpool was us typified and I was sure that we could do it. We have the power to push on and do well in that competition and that's what we will be doing. Two months to go, and still a lot in the balance."

fantastic so far mate enjoyed reading it so far keep up the good work will follow :)

APRIL 2011

Olympique Marseille 3 - 1 FC Schalke 04
(Marseille win 4-3 on aggregate)
UEFA Champions League, Quarter-Final, 2nd Leg
Hoewedes (14)
98620_MARSEILLE_GIGNAC_040910.jpg

Schalke were painfully knocked out of the Champions League, despite being so close to progressing. Andre Pierre Gignac gave Marseille an early lead but they were pegged back immediately by an on-fire Hoewedes, heading home a Farfan corner. No sooner had Schalke equalised and led on aggregate, and Gignac had scored again, sliding home after an error from Amedick. But Schalke were the team on top and they pushed forward time and time again, and eventually earned themselves a penalty when M'Bia toppled Grafite over. Metzelder stepped up for Schalke but his penalty was superbly saved by Mandanda. A goal for Schalke would have meant Marseille needed 2 to go through. Schalke were still going to extra time but a late Gignac goal for his hat-trick sealed the tie and sent Schalke out on aggregate.

FC Schalke 04 0 - 1 Eintracht Frankfurt
1. Bundesliga
caio_fenin_345.jpg

High-flying Frankfurt punished a demoralised Schalke side this afternon at the Veltins-Arena. Habib Bellaid scored the only goal of the game, rising above Amedick to head home a winner in an otherwise dull encounter.

Hertha BSC 2 - 2 FC Schalke 04
1. Bundesliga
Hoewedes (45+3, 90)
hoewedes.jpg

An excellent Hoewedes saved Schalke from further dissapointment in Berlin this evening. He gave them the lead on the stroke of half time, before Schalke then squandered it in the second half. He rose home with seconds to spare and equalised for die Koenigsblauen, who are now suffering a bit in the league. Champions League Qualification seems just out of reach for this season at least.

FC Schalke 04 1 - 2 Werder Bremen
1. Bundesliga
Farfan (22)
r

Schalke's stumbling form continued against Werder Bremen this evening, as they went down to two early goals from strike partners Hugo Almeida and Claudio Pizarro. Almeida was sent through one on one with just 4 minutes on the clock and he slammed it high into the roof of the net for 1-0. Shortly afterwards, Hoewedes brought down Marin as he raced through and Pizarro stuck the penalty home. Schalke pulled back a goal through the everpresent Jefferson Farfan but it wasn't enough and they now sit 5th in the league, with 2 games to go.

Hannover 96 0 - 2 FC Schalke 04
1. Bundesliga
Hoewedes (73), Huntelaar (83)
huntelaar_thumb.jpg

Schalke returned to winning ways just in time, thanks to what will surely be one of the contenders for goal of the season. Hannover rarely troubled Schalke, who dominated possession, playing some lovely football, but it took another powerful headed goal from Hoewedes to break Hannover down. With 5 minutes to go, Annan intercepted a throw in and played Huntelaar in on the half way line who, noticing the keeper well out of his box, slammed a shot from a good 60 yards over the keeper and into the back of the net! A quite marvellous end to a good evening for die Koenigsblauen

Manager's Thoughts
"A struggling month; we got knocked out of the Champions League even though I thought we were the better side and we could have got into an historic semi-final. However, it wasn't to be and that's all in the past. We have an excellent youth team and in the next few years they should be coming into the first team. There's light at the end of this tunnel."

Schalke finished the season on a positive note after trouncing 16th place Augsburg. It didn't take long to get the ball rolling and not long after Huntelaar had broke free of his marker and slammed home, Jurado was being pulled down in the box and Edu smoothly converted for 2-0. Metzelder rounded off the victory with his first goal this year and it was an all round decent victory for die Koenigsblauen.

Manager's Thoughts:
"I'm delighted with how the season ended. We struggled in the league to begin with but I believe we've started to act more like a team in the past few weeks and we were so unlucky not to make the semi-finals of the Champions League. It's the Europa League for us now, but at least that gives us a more realistic chance of silverware; we're as good as any team in that tournament."

'THE FUTURE OF FC SCHALKE 04'

The chairman of Schalke has already said that the transfer policy of the club was to try and maintain the spine of the team now and bring through the youth players. But what youth players do we have, and are they good enough to cut it in the Bundesliga?

Stefan Meyer (16 years old, German) - ST
Stefan had a fantastic first season in the Schalke academy, leading his side to victory in their Under-19s group, and scoring 27 goals along the way. Fantastically determined and a hard-worker, Meyer has also shown some sublime technical skills and is already knocking on the door of the first team. A future German international.

Joel Matip (19 years old, German) - DM, MC
Joel has been in the first team for a couple of seasons now, and has won the German Under-19 Player of the Year award for the past two years running. That gives you an idea of the potential this kid has and he should be a first teamer in the seasons to come.

Lewis Holtby (20 years old, German) - AM RLC, FC
An outstanding talent, he proved his worth to the side with an excellent 16 assist tally. On the short side, but with the agility to match, he has wonderful technical skills and will easily be a German international in the coming years.

Levan Kenia (20 years old, Georgian) - AM C
Has been knocking on the door of the first team for a couple of seasons but now needs to push on and overtake Rakitic as that number 1 playmaker. A very clever young man, Kenia just needs to work on the physical side of his game to become a top player.

Elias Richter (15 years old, German) - ST
Struck up a wonderful partnership with Stefan Meyer in the U-19's side last year and bagged a hatful of goals himself. Also tipped for greatness, Elias will be playing with Schalke II for this season, to see how he progresses.

Ernst Knoll (16 years old, German) - GK
The coaches at Schalke claim that this kid has the ability to be as good as, if not better than Manuel Neuer, which would be quite a feat. Still very young, he has a lot of time to progress and no doubt Neuer will be part of that development process.

Noah Korczowski (17 years old, German) - DC
A stalwart in the U-19 defence, Korczowski is currently being tutored by Schalke's captain Metzelder, such is the regard he is held in. Strong and a good challenger, he could be knocking on the door in a few years time.

Heinz Bischoff (17 years old, German) - AM R
Was offered a pre-contract by Manchester United at just 15, but since signed a professional one with his hometown. An extremely pacy, but technically decent right winger, Bischoff is already knocking on the door of the first team and has a very exciting career ahead of him.

Karl-Heinz Koch (14 years old, German) D R
The latest academy player, Koch is highly liked by the coaches at Schalke who claim he will be the next Philipp Lahm.

That's all for the 2011 season, join me soon for pre-season and transfers as we push on in 2012.

SCHALKE 04 RELEASE NEW KITS FOR THE 2011/2012 SEASON

Ahead of the new pre-season, Schalke have released their home and away kits for 2011/2012. The manager had this to say:

"Schalke 04 are proud to present this season's kit, and would like to thank Adidas and chief designer Iaq for creating these, and hopefully they'll bring us luck in the season to come."

Jurado marked his return to fitness with an absolute screamer to save Schalke from embarresment and send them through to the last 16. Kobenhavn twice took the lead only to be pegged back by a resilient Schalke, who despite their domestic problems, have performed well enough in the Champions League to go through.

---------- Post added at 07:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:58 PM ----------

PRE-SEASON 2011

Schalke dominated the transfer market, with a number of fringe players leaving and a couple of new faces joining the ranks:

OUT:

Jermaine Jones ---> Paris Saint-Germain ----> €5,250,000
Jermaine spent half of last season on loan at PSG and had a sell-on clause, and despite spending a number of years at the Veltins-Arena, will now move on to pastures new. We wish him all the best.
Diego Buonanotte ----> Alemmania Aachen ----> €2,900,000
Picked up following a horrofic car crash that killed his sister, Buonanotte failed to make an impression at Schalke and will now play in the 2. Bundesliga with recently relegated Aachen. Technically very skilled, he has all the abilities and potential to make it at that level.
Nicolas Plestan ----> Werder Bremen ----> €1,500,000
Never really made an impression at Schalke, but has got himself a move to another big Bundesliga side.
Hans Sarpei ----> Borussia Monchengladbach ----> €180,000
The Ghanaian enjoyed two good years at Schalke, but at 35, the manager decided it was his time to leave. Still has the ability to thrive at this level.
Edu -----> Bayer Leverkusen ------> €2,400,000
Scored a number of vital goals for die Koenigsblauen last term, but was frustrated by a lack of chances, and now moves on to Bayer Leverkusen.
Mathias Schober ----> Released
Mathias was a stalwart at the club, but his time had finally come. With young keepers such as Unnerstall and Knoll coming through, he decided it was time to call a day on his Schalke career.
Christoph Moritz ----> Greuther Fuerth ----> Loan
Christoph was tipped for a big future but has failed to make any headway in breaking in to the Schalke side. Fuerth showed interest, and he was instantly whipped away.
Carlos Zambrano -----> 1860 Muenchen -----> Loan
Carlos is a hot talent, but is still progressing in his career. Has the potential to be a first teamer, but is a few years off.

IN:

Gonzalo Barreto (19 years old, Uruguayan) - Free Transfer from Lazio
gonzalo-barreto-is-tipped-for-a-move-to-the-emirates_0.jpg

Gonzalo Barreto was tipped for a huge future when he moved to Lazio 2 years ago, but that hasn't materialised. The Schalke bosses do however believe he still has a big future and he has been offered a 4 year contract, and did well in pre-season.

Franco di Santo (22 years old, Argentinian) - €5,000,000 from Wigan
franco-di-santo-pic-getty-50977200.jpg

Following the departure of Edu, Franco di Santo has been brought in on a long term deal from Wigan Athletic. Pacy, very good in the air, and an extremely hard worker, he is a perfect foil for the poacher that is Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

Patrick van Aanholt (20 years old, Dutch) - Loan Fee €850,000
Van-Aanholt_2485164.jpg

Patrick has a bright future ahead of him, and after Bertrand was promoted to the Chelsea first team, Patrick was brought in on loan for the season instead. If he is as successful as Bertrand was last term, we're in for a treat.

Dennis Aogo (24 years old, German) - €11,500,000 rising to €17,550,000 from HSV
100431_hp.jpg

One of the more promising players in Germany, Dennis can play up the whole left hand side. Technically and physically able, with work on the mental side of his game, he can become a world class full back.

Matches

KSV Westerlo 1 - 0 FC Schalke 04
Friendly
westerlo-op-weg-naar-europa_5_460x0.jpg

Schalke were beaten in a poor game in Belgium this afternoon. Neither side really made much effort, but it was simply a game for fitness, of which Westerlo will be the happier team.

FC Schalke 9 - 0 Sachsen Leipzig
Friendly
Grafite (2, 12, 32), Holtby (13, 44), Huntelaar (47, 71), Amedick (59), Meyer (69)
s04holtby_DW_Sport__849783g.jpg

Schalke ran riot in their second pre-season game of the season this afternoon. A superb half an hour hat-trick from Grafite gave the manager something to think of, and it was following by superb goals from Holtby and one from Huntelaar. Amedick got his first goal for the club (albeit a friendly goal), and 16 year old Meyer scored a poachers effort with 20 minutes to go, to top off a great performance.

AS Monaco FC 5 - 3 FC Schalke 04
Friendly
Amedick (17), Huntelaar (33), Grafite (pen 60)
DieumerciMbokani4444V1.jpg

In a thoroughly entertaining game at the Stade Louis II, Monaco came out on top against two different Schalke sides. Amedick scored for the second game running whilst Huntelaar scored an equaliser, but a superb 4 goal haul from Dieumerci against a young Schalke defence was enough to see them off.

FC Sete 34 0 - 7 FC Schalke 04
Friendly
Baretto (1, 49), Matip (11), Wijnaldum (19, 25), Metzelder (42), di Santo (74)
AS+Bari+v+SS+Lazio+Serie+A+DxcoWBFs9fNl.jpg

Another comfortable victory for Schalke, with 3 goals coming from new strike force Baretto and di Santo. The two looked comfortable alongside each other and it could be a strike force for the future. Wijnaldum also looked bright on the right side of the diamond, scoring two fine efforts after taking on his man.

Tournai 2 - 5 FC Schalke 04
Friendly
Huntelaar (5, 7, 46), Aogo (27), Papadopoulos (70)
xxl_aogo_23099510.original.large-4-3-800-143-0-3444-2474.jpg

Huntelaar scored a fine hat-trick against Tournai, and even had a penalty, but it was saved. Aogo scored his first goal for the side, running on to a nice Kenia through ball to slam home left footed.

Zenit 2 - 1 FC Schalke 04
Friendly
Jurado (86)
danny130reuters_798140c.jpg

Cynics could be concerned that Schalke have lost against 2 big opponents, but the side was changed at half time and showed glimpses of real quality in the second half, getting a deserved goal from Jurado with 5 minutes to spare.

FC Schalke 04 3 - 0 TeBe Berlin
Friendly
Meyer (6, pen 68), di Santo (38)
images

The final match of pre-season was a walkover, goals coming from strike force of Meyer and di Santo. Meyer showed his potential with a nicely taken first, before showing composure to slam home his penalty with 20 minutes to go.

Manager's Thoughts
"We missed out on a couple of our targets in the transfer market, but I'm delighted with what we've managed to bring in. Aogo's price went up when Marcell Jansen went to Tottenham, but I'm convinced he will be worth the money. We've got a young and talented side that's hungry for trophies and I'll think that will shine through this season."

Next update will include Schalke's third kit for the season, to be worn against Eisbechtal in the DFB-Pokal 1st Round

An incredible four goal haul from player-of-the-year Benny Hoewedes helped Schalke ease to victory over minnows Eisbachtel. Barreto also got his first goal for Schalke, tucking home sweetly after receiving a Farfan cross. Overall a pleasing first game of the season.
