Pardew resigns from Newcastle

nufcfans_alan_pardew_newcastle_1.jpg

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has quit his role as manager at the Premier League club after just eight months in charge at St James Park.

It is understood Pardew was dissapointed over 'broken promises' made by owner Mike Ashley over the amount of money Pardew would get to spend over summer transfer period.

A spokesman from Newcastle United said in a statement that Pardew 'resigned on his own merit' and that the search for a new manager would start immediately.

Ex-Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez remains the favourites with the bookies to take the St James Park hot seat, whilst Andre Villas-Boas and Carl Robinson are both said to be in the running aswell.

Andre-Villas-Boas-007.jpg

Ex-Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has told BBC Sport that he will not be the new Newcastle United manager.

The 34-year old was believed to have held talks with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley at the club's stadium yesterday, but the Portugese manager has confirmed that he will not take the job.

Villas-Boas said, "I've had conversations with Newcastle representatives but nothing more."

"Right now the role isn't one that is of a massive attraction to me and I'm going to continue to take a break out of the game until the right opportunity comes along.

Benitez attracted to Newcastle position

Ex-Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed that he is attracted to the position of Newcastle United manager and would consider the role should he be offered it.

Benitez, 52, has been out of a job since being sacked by Inter Milan in December 2010 and is said to welcome the opportunity to get back in the game in England.

It is thought Benitez was holding out for the opportunity to remanage Liverpool but that now seems unlikely after the recent appointment of fan's favourite Kenny Dalglish.

ASHLEY IN TALKS WITH ROOKIE MANAGER

mike-ashley_1373367c.jpg

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is believed to have opened negotiations with rookie manager Ashley Thornton-Jones over the vacant managerial position at St James Park.

The rumours of a relatively unknown footballing personality taking charge of the club has as expected been met with dismay from the North-East club's loyal fan base, with some declaring that this is just one of many 'money-saving short cuts'.

One fan told ITV, "Ashley is treating the club as a business, not a football club."

"It's amazing that he's prepared to gamble the well-being of a football club by putting in charge a fella that nobody's ever head of."

Newcastle United have appointed rookie manager Ashley Thornton-Jones as the club's new manager following the resignation of Alan Pardew.

As expected, the decision has been met with anger by Newcastle fans but owner Mike Ashley and managing director Derek Llambaris have declared they have 'total faith' in Thornton-Jones' ability to bring success to the Sports Direct Arena.

Llambaris told Sky Sports, "Thornton-Jones was the outstanding candidate in a long and drawn out interview process."

"His ideas and ambitions for the club match ours and we're confident he's the best man to bring success to the club with the resources that are at his disposal."

Ashley Thornton-Jones was unavailable for comment but it's thought he's 'delighted' at the opportunity.

Bolton 0-1 Newcastle

Papisse-Demba-Ciss--008.jpg

Newcastle United started their Premier League campaign with victory over Bolton thanks to Pappis Cisse's goal.

The visitors thought they took the lead when Steven Taylor found the back of the net from Yohan Cabaye's corner but the goal was ruled out after the centre-back was adjudged to have impeded his marker.

Mark Davies then went close from a free-kick for Bolton before Demba Ba wasted a good opportunity from a tight angle to open the scoring.

The travelling Newcastle fans didn't have to wait much further though when Pappis Cisse was put through on goal by Jonas before slotting home past the helpless Jaaskaleinen

Newcastle 1-2 Man Utd

image-1-for-sport-pics-21-01-12-gallery-10800000.jpg

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea produced a sensational display to help Man United to their first victory of the season at the expense of Ashley Thornton-Jones' Newcastle United side.

The Newcastle attack found the Spanish stopper in inspiring form from start to finish as goals from Danny Welbeck and Nemanja Vidic were enough to give Sir Alex Ferguson's men a splendid victory at the Sports Direct Arena.

Steven Taylor went closest to breach the United net from Yohan Cabaye's corner but his header could only find the edge of the post, before Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye and Pappis Cisse all had great opportunities to break the deadlock.

The dreadlock eventually was broken, and in impressive fashion, when Wayne Rooney dispossesed the dissapointing Williamson, and when the ball fell to the feet of striker partner Danny Welbeck the England International made no mistake in finding the corner of Tim Krul's net from the best part of thirty yards out.

Nemanja Vidic doubled the visitor's lead soon after when he found himself in a mismatch at the back post from a corner, outjumping debutant Nene to power a header home, before Wayne Rooney diverted a cross into his own net deep into injury time at the end of the game to take a bit of gloss off the scoreline.

Further bad news for Newcastle fans is centre-back Fabricio Coloccini, who was taken off injured in the first half, has suffered broken ribs and is likely to face 4-5 weeks out of action.

Mehdi Abeid's extra-time winner sent Newcastle through to the Third Round of the Carling Cup after an impressive effort by Yeovil Town.

Peter Lovenkrands put the home team in front with twenty minutes to go before Andy Williams shocked the home crowd by bringing the League One side back level with eight minutes remaining, sending the game to extra-time.

It only took two minutes into the extra thirty for the all-important goal to come, with substitute Mehdi Abeid finding the top corner from the edge of the box with an impressive effort.
