When FM 2010 comes out I want to change the way tactics are displayed in the Downloads Area. At the moment they are all just lumped into one area and it makes it difficult for people to find what they are after.

I was thinking of having different categories such as....

Strong Teams
Tactics for teams such as Man Utd, Barcelona, Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Milan etc..
Weak Teams
Tactics for the underdogs in a league. Such as Hull, Wolves, Stoke etc...
Lower League Management
Tactics for use in the lower leagues (eg: Blue Square Premier, North & South)

Opinions & Suggestions are appreciated....

good idea to be fair, could do it just like you do with the players such as, champions league level... blue square level sort categories... or maybe, attacking, defensive, counter attacking, possesion... might be better?

Good idea mate, it is a bit difficult to find what you're after. You could also do this with patches and databases. You could have categories like Patches, Customised databases, Challenges, made-up-teams and novelties like the £50M challenge and the Fm-Base dragons download.

Or you could do both, nice idea.

sounds good. dont know if many people on here manage outside of england, and if they do, have they noticed that tactics that work well on the continent eg spain, italy, etc dont work so well in the premier league?

maybe tactics suitable for foreign management? ive got 2 or 3 different types sitting around that work well in spain

You could arange it in terms of formations (4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-5-1, etc)
Although attacking, defensive, counter attacking, possesion looks good also

well if you wanted something like that you could go into greater detail.. just have a section that goes as followed. so that you find what you want straight away... doesn't have to be like the one below just an example. when uploading a tactic and having the bit where you decide where to put your file... you would be able to put it in the right section manually.

Tactics > Attacking > 442 > Champions league
----------Defensive--451---Top 4
----------Possesion--433---Underdogs
----------Counter----532---Coca Cola Football
----------------------------Blue Square

How about plug in and play tactic and multaple variant tactics being seperate.Im not sure about strong team weak team tactics because a good tactic should work at all levels.Maybe seperate them by the style of play or the actual formation 4-4-2s 4-3-3s etc

An idea i've seen on other sites is a senior member of the forum trying out each tactic with the same team and giving a 6 game analysis from the friendlies.

Might be an idea for a request a tactic tested section where they would test, post screenies of the tactics weakness/strengths in progress and suggest amendments.

You should have sections like

Attacking then within that

Plug and Play

Big Teams

Small Teams

Lower League

then within the option you choose have the formation your looking for.

Then do the same for Defensive etc etc?

I want to try and keep it as simple as possible. I don't want users having to navigate through 3 or 4 categories before they can even start downloading.

then perhaps go for what you said but add in JP Woody's comment about plug and play aswell

If your looking to keep it simple then that fits.

I as an online marketer and the general rule is the 3 click rule where consumers should be able to find what they want within 3 clicks. (I think it was 3 lol only new :) )

So is a 'Plug & Play' tactic just an overall one that should (in theory) work with any team? If so then I think I'll add that as a category.

Yeah by 2-3 clicks you want the user to have found what they are after. To battle that I am using a drop-down menu system which should allow people to get quite deep into the site with only 1 click....

Yes a plug and play tactic is a tactic you can use home and away for any team in any league and should be successful (in theory),very simplistic as they don't need to be messed about with.

It's what most people seem to be after a no frills tactic that will work with any team with any players

Most people long for another Diablo tactic where you dont really need to do anything and win week in week out.

a quick response from a forum noob:

where would tactics for middle teams go ie villa and spurs because there not strong or weak really.

dunno wether this is the right place but wud be good if the players sections had more stats rather than rating out of 5

Hmm I guess you're right. Maybe have a World Class (Man Utd etc..), Strong (Spurs, Villa etc..) and Weak (Hull, Stoke etc..) sections.

As for the players section I don't really want to include anything else as I think at the moment it has the right balance between simplicity and allowing the user to find the sort of player they want.
