Chelsea FC - Champions of Europe 2011/12

chelsea_champions_league_winner_2012___wallpaper_b y_reto180-d50lfxq.jpg

For Chelsea, winning its first Champions League title ever, made Saturday the finest day in the club's history. But moving forward, it could have interesting implications for the team. And frankly, for the rest of the Premier League as well. Will it affect the transfer window? Will jobs be kept or lost over the result?

The most obvious result from Chelsea's win is that Tottenham is now pushed out of Champions League qualification. Despite finishing fourth in the league, Chelsea's victory gives them an automatic berth in next year's tournament. I guess you could consider the Spurs spurned in this case. As for Newcastle, they've lost their automatic bid to play in the Europa League, as Tottenham earned that right. Neither side can be very pleased with Chelsea's win yesterday.

And that brings us to the manager, Roberto Di Matteo ...

di-matteo_2223460b.jpg

After taking over a floundering Chelsea team from Andre Villas-Boas in February, Di Matteo turned the tide and made this team into a Champions League winner. That should count for something, like another season at the helm. Of course, the possibility remains that Di Matteo could actually remain as an interim skipper if Roman Abramovich has his eye on a bigger prize. We all know he has earned another season as manager, but does Roman Abramovich feel he is the right man to make the London club a top European Club as the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan & Liverpool ???

Roman Abramovich announces changes at Chelsea FC

After yesterday's Champions League & FA Cup celebrations in London, Roberto was up the next day bright and early to discuss his future at the club he had just made history with. He was in Roman's office for a few hours but failed to convince the Russian billionaire owner to keep him on. Di Matteo was also wary of the high expectations that were to be put upon the man in charge after winning that Champions League trophy two nights before, and was happy to make way for his successor. After all he had just taken over a club that was going nowhere in the 2011/12 campaign and led them to a Domestic & European cup triumph. But not just any club, the club that he ended his career with, making 119 appearances in a six year period. He knows he will be always remembered this way, a great footballer, and a true legend now, after what he did in his short tenure as 'caretaker manager'. He leaves Stamford Bridge with his head held high, proud of what he has achieved, and will always be loved by the Chelsea fans, some of who still can't get their heads around what has just happened.

The New Chelsea Manager

In an official statement, later that afternoon, Chelsea FC announce that long time friend of the Abramovich family, Chris Borg will be the man to take the club through its next steps in becoming the best club in the world. Journalists and fans alike are shocked that the club have overlooked other experienced targets such as Fabio Capello, Guus Hiddink and especially Barcelona favourite Josep Guardiola. Although the new man has never managed a club professionally, it is rumoured that he had a legendary status on the simulation game FM12, and the board have full confidence that this is the right choice. Chris will be having his first first interview in a few days where he will discuss his aims, beliefs & most importantly, what he plans to do in his transfer window. This is currently a hot subject, and one of Chris' first jobs is going to be whether he will be able to convince Didier Drogba to stay after his contract runs out in a few weeks, that is, if he wants him to stay.

Monday 4.06.2012 - London, England

Chris Borg took his first interview today, in which he discussed several aspects of his new job. The fans will be pleased to know that he started off by promising Passion, Trophies & Football as his main objectives where he explained that he is going to make some very important signings in the coming days which will be the start of this new revolution. He also promised that he will be closely monitoring our Youths' development and ensuring they experience some first team football and will also be retaining most of the staff & players. John Terry & Frank Lampard where also present, as Chris explained how they will remain the captains and leaders of this new energetic & hungry team he is looking to build. The Chelsea fans seemed happy again, although in the back of their minds they still wanted an answer to the one question above all others, What about Didier Drogba? There was no mention of him in the interview but later on in that same week everyone was to know his destiny.

New manager Chris Borg stands here alongside some of his new signings, he has already spent the Champions League prize money, around £80 million on players so far, and word around Stamford Bridge is that Roman has given him an extra £30 million to spend to further strengthen the squad. Chelsea have already been linked with strikers Edinson Cavani, Stevan Jovetic & Falcao but Chris confirmed that although these are all top players, he had not thoroughly looked at all available options and will be analyzing his current squad first before dipping into the transfer market again. Nonetheless he shall definitely be looking for a replacement for Didier Drogba. We will catch up with Chris again nearer deadline day to have a look at any further transfer activity, how preseason went & look at his tactical approach for the 2012/13 campaign keeping in mind the Blues will be extra busy this season with the Community Shield, Super Cup, & Club World Cup to look forward to.

Contracts

Today several Chelsea players have accepted new contract offers with a year left on their current deals. The only player not to be offered a new deal is French midfielder Florent Malouda, speculations now have been confirmed that he is on his way out of Stamford Bridge after a successful career with the Blues. The question is; will he serve his final year or will another club come in and get him for a decent transfer fee? Florent has recently shared publicly that he wouldn't say no to a return back home to France. Some of the most notable transfers offered today were:

Daniel Sturridge - signed a three year deal at 80k p/w
Ashley Cole - signed a two year deal at 150k p/w
Frank Lampard - signed a two year deal at 150k p/w
Paulo Ferreira - signed a two year deal at 40k p/w
Yossi Benayoun - signed a two year deal at 80k p/w

Monday 16.07.2012 - London, England

Malouda leaves Chelsea

Florent-Malouda-006.jpg

32 year old French midfielder, Florent Malouda returns back to his country as he signs a two year deal with giants Paris St.Germain, leaving Chelsea for a reported fee of just over £2 million. Malouda initially signed for the Blues in 2007 from Olympique Lyon and was a prominent member of the squad throughout the years, he has though found himself sidelined since the arrivals of some of the younger midfielders Chelsea have brought in. All in all this is a good deal for both parties.

As Florent departs, this week saw the welcoming of some new faces. An additional three coaches have been brought in as backroom staff to help out with the current training setup.

Alex Gibson - will work with youngsters, has a good eye for judging potential.
Angel Vales - spanish tactical & technical genious.
Andy Welsh - everyday coaching & motivational expert.

Chelsea arrive in South Korea

We now follow the blues as they land in Pohan, South Korea ahead of their two friendly matches against locals Pohang Steelers and Seongnam Illhwa Chunma where we will see most of the squad get some game time as in the first friendly. In an interview last night, Borg explained how important fitness is at this time of the season, and how he has already seen an improvement in training after the first match. Chris went on to share how the scores of these encounters do not count in his eyes and he will focus mainly on making sure everyone gets some game-time.

So that rounds up Chelsea's preseason for this summer, a win at The Bridge, two wins in South Korea & a trashing of their Reserves side. Next up for the month of August they have their Community Shield Clash against the Premier League Champions Manchester City, two Premier League games against newly promoted West Ham & Southampton, along with the highly anticipated European Super Cup Final against Falcao's Athletico Madrid! Can the Blues start their season with a bang?

Loan Deals

With the arrival of their new summer signings, a second batch of Chelsea's youngsters are set on their way to join their new club for this term, on a season long loan. Chris Borg will definitely be keeping a close eye on these boys to assess their performances as they gain essential first team experience.

It's because he wouldn't sign for less than 2 years and Abramovich won't let over 30s be offered a contract for more than one year. They might lose Cole for the same reason this season.

Blues News

As yet another International break approaches Borg's Chelsea find themselves in a very prominent position especially if they are able to get full points from their match in hand, taking them to top of the table. Competition is heavy this season with the Manchester clubs looking to carry on where they left off last year. Great starts for Newcastle United & Everton too. Chelsea are also through to the Capital One Cup fourth round which will take place at the end of the month where they will face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Their Champions League campaign is off to a decent start too, grabbing four points in their first two encounters in the Group Stage. This time we are going to take a closer look at one of Borg's most recent signings; Stevan Jovetic who has found the net five times already this season. Stevan has also been working on his finishing, technique and dribbling since his move from Fiorentina and it has already started paying off.

Cheers for the positive comments guys, will keep on posting my results here and also take some time for a bit of story writing too at points in the season. For those that sent me a message, ill be posting some more info on tactics etc.. in a bit. And btw I am also managing England in this same save so watch out ill setup a thread for that in a bit too. Let me know if you would like me to add anything else!

Chelsea fan here too, doing well mate, I can't get them to perform! You're playing Ferreira? And he got Man of the Match?

Strange times.

really good career so far- a little unsure how you have managed to obtain nearly 70m in transfer budget without selling anyone in particular but good all the same

Cheers guys, yeah rotating the squad, Ferreira is nothing special but worth a contract extension!
With the transfer budget i had gbp30 mill available set a few targets and director of football secured these three for me first. He did pay up half of the fee though, the rest is paid monthly for the next few years. Not planning to make any more major transfers so that should be alright!

Blues News

One has to feel sorry for Blues boss Chris Borg, who is facing a big headache with injuries this month. After injuries at the back to Gary Cahill & Ashley Cole, Chelsea have suffered further setbacks, this time with a bad injury to Mario Gotze along with an even more serious calf injury for young Brazilian Oscar. Both will be missed upfront and it now leaves the Blues boss with limited choice and heavy reliance on Eden Hazard, Juan Mata & Hatem Ben Arfa. This month was also a disappointing one in the Capital One cup where Chelsea unexpectedly crashed out at the hands of Sunderland. Nonetheless Chelsea are looking very strong in their Champions League Group and are on the right track for qualification, while a loss to Everton in the Barclays Premier League has not affected their chance of reaching top spot if they win that game in hand. Elsewhere, ex Chelsea boss Andres Villas-Boas' Premier League reputation is taking a further step back after such a bad start with Tottenham Hotspur, finding himself mid table after losing half of their matches played already. Villas-Boas is under heavy pressure and is still looking to make his mark in English football as is Blues boss Chris Borg. One of Borg's main powers in German wonderkid Mario Gotze! Gotze has been instrumental for the Blues this month and has deservedly earned himself the Barclays Premier League Young Player of the Month award.
