Not only that, they also tend to get into space occupied by your central playmaker.
It isn't like that. Imagine Ramsey in real life. He doesn't occupy Ozil's space in my tactic, depite them both being advanced playmakers. He doesn't play that narrow in all honest. Him and Ozil have the ppm's 'likes to play one twos'. Ramsey usually passes the ball into Ozil usually who may initiate a one two and Ramsey will give it to my inside forward (Alexis Sanchez) on the right or Ozil will spray it to Bellerin on the right hand side who has tonnes of space to run riot and pick out a pass/cross. If I have time, I will upload a goal to show it in action.

You can view it on fantasy draft.

Ramsey is a perfect fit there in my tactic. He will play narrower like real life, so that Bellerin is free on the overlap and I use this to devastating effect. Ramsey has the ultra rare 'arrives in box late' ppm, so he will pop up and score goals in the penalty area, as well as assists loads with his 17 passing and 17 creativity. Hector Bellerin has had an average rating of over 8 and has a league joint high of 6 assists in 12 games because Ramsey draws the full back narrower and Bellerin is free on the overlap. As a result, Ramsey has plenty of scoring opportunities in the box, creates a lot of chances and Bellerin runs riot on the right hand side!
Fullbacks are way too much OP and they will probably get nerfed a bit.

Yes it is. I don't need to imagine Ramsey in real life when I know how it works in the engine. The fact that you are lucky enough to have PPMs that make it less of a problem changes nothing, we're talking about how default AI modes work.

Wide Playmakers in FM were always problematic because they drag the ball into the center and ********** with it, creating unbalanced formation. There are ways around it, through PPMs, through positioning your central creator deeper in the midfield, or by making asymetric formation. But in general, this mode is always causing more problems than it is worth.

That's extremely hypothetical. The previous matchday, stats showed that Hector Bellerin had created the most clear cut chances in the league irl and he's absolutely immense going forward. It's easy enough to defend against if you set up your team properly. I have wingers man-marking full backs and the 17+ work-rate of Ramsey and Alexis makes this really balanced. Arsenal are an incredible team this year in FM. All that's really needed is a striker at most and you should be set to win virtually everything. We'll see how my season goes as I approach December 3 points behind City thus far and dominating my champions league group with 4 wins out of 4. There was a learning curve as I lost 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday and 5-1 against City, but I've become more adept at balancing my team and using the excellent backroom instructions.

Players don't unnecessarily hold onto the ball this year and players are more intelligent in positioning. I've played about 25 games thus far and not once have I experienced them getting to close to each other. They are almost never dispossessed and I haven't quite seen them ********** with the ball just yet. The width Bellerin provides is always found by my midfielders. Apart from Coquelin, vision in my midfield and attack is 17,16,20,17,16. It is my most balanced tactical setup ever on FM. It is balanced because I have the players to do it. If I were playing with Aston Villa and tried to pull it off, it would be unbalanced because they don't have the personnel to pull it off.

Which again underlines the need for a generic wide attacking midfielder role.

Nah, it's not. It's 100% certain :) Just wait and see.

@ET
It's nice to see useful fullbacks, but having Luke Shaw averaging 2 assists throughout the season is ******* ridiculous XD

You could change the wide player to a right attacking midfielder then tell him to play wider when the opposition have the ball. Like I've said, the wide playmaker works perfectly fine for me.

Wait, you mean "Wide Playmaker" or "Wide Advanced Playmaker" now? Wide AP is alright, sure, but you really need PPMs to make it work as a serious goal thread. WP however rarely ever gets into the box, so you'll really come short offensively in a, say, 4-5-1.

Not much seems to have changed from fm15 really apart from some nice new stats screens. The change to the tactics screen is completely not needed from what I can see and seems to have been changed just for changes sake, does nothing new and if anything its worse than previous versions tactics screen.

does anyone seem to concede a lot in the first 5 mins of a game

So I want to have a wide AM for a 4-6-0 possession tactic. All I need is for him to be fairly neutral in a few things. More risky passes is not something you want in a strikerless formation or one with possession because the AI will often play the ball through the channel to no one. (so that's IF-support, and both AP roles out) Dribbling is not something I want going on too much because it often loses the ball (so that's IF-A and both winger roles out). I want him in the AM role, far enough forward without the ball to press the fullback and coming deeper when we have possession to receive the ball (which is raumdeuter and wide target man out). I literally cannot create a very simple, balanced role on the wing because all of the options are specialists of some sort. So he has to be bumped back to midfield in search of a role, except there are literally no options that work there yet again. The closest I can get is Wide Midfielder- Support but even then I'm locked into shooting more often, which again sucks for a possession tactic. And I'm then in a situation where I have to use the get further forward instruction to make him press the fullback, which in turn often stops him coming deep to receive the ball. I am genuinely baffled there is no neutral wide roles anywhere in midfield.

Decent point about the MR/ML positions. Have you looked at the general play in the ME though? For the WM/S, it is a strange default PI to have active, in theory, but does it actually affect your play? He's won't be getting close enough very often for this PI to come into effect and with a low enough mentality (considering possession is what you want) and passing options, it shouldn't matter too much in practice.

Anyone noticed stupid formations like the 3 striker aren't that good this year? 4-2-3-1 and 4-5-1 seem pretty solid for the first time in FM.

For the first time? 451 has always been solid.

Has anyone else encountered any inconsistencies in player ratings on different saves?

Started with Arsenal and Rene Adelaide was a potential 3.5 star. Started another save with Arsenal after a while and he is now potential 4.5 star.

Also has occurred with players that i am scouting such as barbosa, werner, lucas romero, balanta etc.

Its like there's a random rating each time.

The tactics screen is even worse this year
I miss the old ones, FM14 tactics screen was nice

It might seem "cool" but I hate the fact that positions change height depending on role and duty

This might only be in the beta, but those boxes are even worse than the shirts last year...
cant they just go back to FM14 design, formations look much better
