Thanks for that Mike, Have SI made any comments about the update??

Not as such. Bear in mind this isnt the first big update, its effectively an extended update, so we can typically expect a proper one (ie 14.2) in the run up to christmas hopefully, but they wont rush it.

Ahright sound cheers for that mate! Any Suggestions Tactics that are working for you still because Im finding major variation in resullts?

I must say i have enjoyed the patch 14.1.3 , but this 14.1.4 ... NOT SO MUCH :S :S
There`s a long way to .... 14.4.4 .... feb - march 2014 :(

There have been some bad patches in FM over the years but this one must go down as the very worst.

No, it mustn't. Such short memories everyone has. Even if we put aside the fact that it patently isn't a bad patch, the entirety of FM09 was a useless ****** broken mess, and one of last year's patches made the game worse for a short while. That's but two examples, and if I wasn't so sleep deprived today I reckon I could come up with a whole load more.

5 matches played since the patch, hit the woodwork 21 times. CCC's? 19. Goals? 2 (one was a pen).
Defenders can't defend, midfielders can't pass, strikers can't score. Except the AI's obviously. Nice, great patch. Well done SI :))) Keep up the good work!

So the AI can score, but you cant? That should tell you straight away whatever you're doing isn't working out.

Finally coming to gripes with this patch. I've never been one for adapting strategy depending on opposition but it's working a treat. Something to think about.

As holes are plugged and things sorted, the quality of your players and reading of the game are ever more important. The lower your outright player quality is relative to your opposition, the more important your decisions are.

I like the Idea of having to adapt strategy depending on the opposition, but prefer forcing them to alter their strategy to adapt to my team, this is why I still plug and play, I still have the same success as before the patch, slightly less goals scored as the short corner was creating far too many chances, but it is more realistic in the scorelines for me.

no 9-0,8-0,9-0 runs and now its more like 5-0,6-0.4-0 lol.

I'm worried the game is too easy in its current state xD

I've been seeing my goalkeeper being lobbed very often now since the patch which never happened before. When I say lobbed, I mean my goalkeeper runs to the penalty spot as soon as the opposition are clean through on goal from far out, and he gets lobbed from at least 25 yards out.

It's getting ridiculous, but should I be putting this down to me playing possession football therefore counter attacks cause these problems more than they did with my old defensive tactics? I don't play counter attacking football so it's hard to judge whether it happens to the AI also so I can't tell if it's the patch and not my tactics. Does anyone else get lobbed often/ lob the opposition?

I'm sorry if this comes across as critical of the patch, it's not meant to be. No matter what the problem, there will be a tactical solution I can make.

what role do you have for your keeper?
how high is your defensive line?
how fast are your defenders?

Standard keeper. The problem is players are dribbling at him so it's not like running out of his box will help as sweeper. I play a high defensive line to accompany high pressure through tight marking and hassling opponents, but obviously this opens me up to counter attacks. Centre backs have around 14/14 for speed attributes, but it's hard to find solid CBs who have higher pace.

I'm also playing with 3 CMs- BBM, AP, BWM. That's their order, I had BWM in the middle but the AP plays better through the middle as he gets a bit more of the ball. Any suggestions on how to improve the shape? (Sorry if this is getting off topic)

Don't play a BWM. BWMs do not hold position, they hunt down the ball at every opportunity, breaking the shape. use a CM-D/DLP-D or DMC-D/DM DLP-D

I'll give it a try. I'm checking out my team report now and it shows 66% of assist locations for conceded goals came from the middle of the pitch, (half in my half, the other half from the opposition half). I'll be using this to see how improving shape results in changing the assist locations. Also, looking at the goal types, it says I've only been lobbed twice, but I am absolutely positive this is happening a lot more. Could they be getting recorded as placed shots instead?

to add to this,
a sweeper keeper would be further up in the hole left by the high defensive line, where as a standard keeper will sit in around his 6 yard box. Also it is important to have players capable of playing a high defensive line, positioning, desicions, pace accelleration should all be high, also it is quite important to consider using the offside trap in this scenario as there is alot of space to play through balls into for players to run onto or dribble into.

I'll change his role to sweeper keeper, but I'm doing most of what you say using good players. I guess I can only give it half a season and see what the stats say at the end. Thanks for the help so far, I'm still doing well in my save so my laptop won't be hitting any walls even if I get lobbed again.

I'm not saying that I'm meant to be winning every game and dominating, I'm an average player at this game. This game prides itself on its realism, yet the amount of time I hit the woodwork is laughable. Literally the lowest amount of times I've hit it in one game is 3. I realise every once and a while you'll have a game where it seems like the ball is being pulled towards the frame of the goal - I accept that, but EVERY game, that isn't realistic at all. That's not my fault, it's not like there's an instruction to 'Aim for crossbar' is there? I accept that I may have been over critical in my last post because I was ****** off, but there are still major problems with this patch, surely you can see that due to the number of people with issues?

The number of actual issues and the number of people with issues are two entirely different things. Most of the things currently being raised as issues aren't even issues. For example the woodwork issue, it's minor since ideally you need need the majority of this missing the goal anyway. If/when fixed, its not going to significantly change the course of your game, which is why its such a low priority issue. Amazingly not one person has actually flagged up the things that do need fixing in further updates.

By things that do need fixing, I mean things that SI have noted as needing fixing.

Hitting woodwork way too much is a known issue to SI staff. As far as I remember, they said it's a bug that makes some missed shots hit woodwork instead of going off mark. So yeah it's annoying for sure, feels like 3 to 5 potentials more goals every match played but heh... these are just bugged missed shots in the end.
