Fulham Story - an attempt at making them a strong force in the league and europe

Month of December update

EURO cup group stage – Fulham vs Timisoara:
A weak defensive performance from both sides made this game turn out to be a high-scoring one. With 7 goals scored today it was a great game to watch. Fulham had the upper hand in the end and won 4-3. Highlight today must be considered Andy Johnson´s hattrick.

League Cup semi final draw:
The winner resulting from the Tottenham vs Fulham match will be playing Arsenal in the semi final.

League Cup quarter final – Tottenham vs Fulham:
A good performance by Fulham, deserving their 0-1 win. Andy Johnson scored the only goal, who later had to come off due to injury. It´s likely that he´ll have to watch the matches against Liverpool and Zenit from the sideline. Mark Schwarzer was on top of his game today with 10 great saves.

Fulham vs Liverpool:
Liverpool are taking the 3 points home with them. Fulham lost 0-2 in a match that they dominated until Liverpool´s Fernando Torres scored a goal shorlty before half-time. After that Fulham were not able to get back into the game.
“I think we deserved to get more out of this match, I´m not saying we should´ve won, but atleast gotten a draw after a frist half when we played Liverpool against a wall.” These were the words of Fulham´s manager Beleza, who looked quite disappointed.

EURO cup group stage – Zenit vs Fulham:
A draw of 1-1 was the result in the last match of this group stage. Fulham will be happy with getting a draw here, the manager´s team talk must have inspired his players to still get atleat 1 point, thanks to John Pantsil.

EURO cup 1st knockout round draw:
Bordeaux were drawn to play Fulham in the next round. That´ll be a tough challenge for Fulham against a french side that are currently top of the Ligue1.

EURO cup 2nd knockout round draw:
Fulham will be playing against either Villarreal or Everton, if they make if to this round.

Fulham vs Hull:
A last minute goal by Clint Dempsey in the 90th minute, secured a 1-0 win for Fulham. Dominating throughout the match the Cottagers will be pleased with the outcome of the game.

Man Utd vs Fulham:
Lots of goals in this match, with the result being 4-2 and Fulham suffering their 2nd league defeat in a row. Even though Fulham played well, they weren´t able to get a point out of this match. Man Utd got better into the second half and Fulham´s defence wasn´t able to cope with the oppositions attacking force.

West Ham vs Fulham:
Clint Dempsey on form as Fulham win 1-2, he scored both goals for his side. The Cottagers had to run after the result after conceding a goal in the early minutes.
“ We were the superior side today and deserved this win. We had some less good performances the past few matches and I´m glad to see that we got a win here. It´s always good to win away, especially since we struggle a bit at our home games of late, so these 3 points are valuable” such were the words of a happy Fulham manager.

Burnley vs Fulham:
Fulham picked up another 3 points after winning this match 2-3. Only after Chris Smalling got sent off in the 78th minute after being shown a 2nd yellow card, Burnley managed to get back into the game and put Fulham under pressure. Fulham´s manager Beleza surprised many supporters with his line-up as he decided to give his more important players a rest after a long series of matches. With 8 games played this month and 1 more to go it appears to have benn a thought through decision.

Fulham vs Wolves:
A narrow 1-0 win for Fulham, with Andy Johnson as goalscorer and a top performance by Mark Schwarzer. Fulham surely could have scored a few more goals, if they wouldn´t be so wasteful with their chances.
With the january transfer window being around the corner, Fulham´s fans are hoping on one or two new signings.

good job, you're playing well here, only really slipping up against the big sides. keep it up.

Well done, only bad point is £12.25m for harry kewell. You can get younger and better AMF for less than what you paid for harry. but KIU

@ samillyroy - thanks, yeah especially Chelsea are doing my head in lol... playing well against the big teams in the cups so far, not that lucky in the league though.
@GrizzlyReaper - cheers, yeah he was pricy, but he´s doing ok for me so far and the rest of my team seem to worship him lol.

posting next update now

Month of January update

FA Cup 3rd round - Bristol City vs Fulham:
This match could´ve gone either way, but in the end it was Fulham that got the win with a score of 1-2 they´ll be heading for the next round. John Pantsil scored the winning goal. And Fulham´s manager Beleza will be thinking, that he was lucky to get the win on this one.

FA Cup 4th round draw:
Doncaster will be Fulham´s next opponents in this competition.

League Cup semi final 1st leg – Arsenal vs Fulham:
2-2 was the score at the end of this match, a result that may surprise many as Arsenal were clear favorites on this one. Arsenal even needed Fulham´s help to get the draw, with Paul Konchevsky hammering the ball into the own net by mistake. Even though Arsenal dominated the 1st half and them leading 2-1 at half time Fulham turned out to be the side having the upper hand in the second half of the game and thus netting the equaliser.

Fulham vs Bolton:
Fulham won 2-0 with a stunning performance in every area of the pitch. Bolton were lucky to only lose by that margin as well as to still have 11 players on the pitch at the end of the match. Steinsson´s rough challenge ended with Rodrigo Tello having to come off with several broken ribs, the challenge only punished by a yellow card. Aaron Hughes was also injured in this match and now both players will be out for about 3 weeks.

Arsenal – Fulham:
The 1-1 draw in this game is a fair result for both teams and neither of them can complain about it really. Fulham where a bit luckier with Clint Dempsey scoring the equaliser in the final minutes of the game. All in all a good game that would´ve been more interesting with a few more goals on either side.

Player unavailability update:
3 Fulham players will be making presence in the Africa Cup and tehrefore won´t be available for manager Beleza.
Kagiso Dikgacoi will be representing South Africa, Dickson Etuhu will be away for Nigeria and John Pantsil will be in the services of Ghana.

Transfer rumour update:
It looks like Fulham are interested in reforcing their squad with another midfielder, due to manager Beleza being unhappy with Damien Duff´s performances for the first half of the season and thus offering him to clubs. Villarreal have claimed interest Irish international. It is also reported that Beleza is quite upset with the fact of being stuck with Jonathan Greening due to his transfer to Fulham already having been settled before he took over, a player who apparently isn´t any part of his plans for the team.

Birmingham vs Fulham:
Dominating the Birmingham side, Fulham got another 3 points here thatnks to a win by 1-2. Birmingham only managed to take a total of 9 shots off and most weren´t even on target, If they keep this form up, they´ll get themselves relegated.

League Cup semi fina 2nd leg – Fulham vs Arsenal:
What an exciting match this one was. Fulham got away with a 3-2 win over an Arsenal side they completely dominated. Arsenal had an undeserved lead towards the end of the match, until Andranik came from the bench and scored an equalising goal in the 88th minute and then Fredrik Stoor managed to get the winning goal in the 93rd.
Fulham manager Beleza was asked what he thought about an controversial penalty situation favoring the Gunners. “I´m gonna have to be honest here and say that, today I don´t care if it was or wasn´t a penalty in their favor, we deserved the win and my lads did great.”

FA Cup 4th round – Doncaster – Fulham:
Scrappy win for Fulham winning by 1-2 thanks to Harry Kewell who scored the winning goal. Fulham were clear favorites for this match and should have done more on the pitch, but for some reason they only did enough to ensure the win.

FA Cup 5th draw:
Chelsea will be in Fulham´s way to pass to the next round.

Fulham vs Man City:
Fulham will be wondering how they managed to pull off a win here. 2-1 was the final score with Man City dominating the match. Diomansy Kamara scored the goal that decided this match.
“Sometimes you need to have luck, today we had plenty. I hope we don´t need to rely on it more often” this was Beleza´s comment on the win.

Injury update:
Aaron Hughes is back in the game and will be in the starting line-up against Tottenham.

Fulham vs Tottenham:
Looks like this time orund Fulham were the unlucky ones, clearly dominating this match and in the end giving Tottenham the draw. Leading 2-1 at half time and keeping the opposition away until the 82nd minute, when the defence didn´t pay attention and forgot to mark Benoit Assou-Ekotto when a corner was awarded to Tottenham.

Transfer rumour update:
Everton made a bid for Fulham´s Paul Konchesky who has been performing well for the Cottagers so far this season. Fulham manager Beleza´s response to the £4.1 M bid was a counter offer expecting £20 M for the player. He later stated that if clubs don´t come up with serious bids, they shouldn´t expect to get a serious counter-offer.
It seems that Everton decided to stop the negotiations.

January Transfer window

Fulham decided to bring in another midfielder, Jan Polak being the chosen one by manager Beleza.
A few loan attempts were made, but in the end other clubs competing for the same players had the upper hand.
Damien Duff left Fulham for a fee of £8M to be paid in monthly installments by Villarreal. Duff only being able to provide 1 goal and 1 assist for the first half of the season was offered to clubs in the january transfer window.

Kagiso Dikgacoi has joined Valenciennes on loan until the end of the sesason.

Doing very well, keep it up! (I love the layout) But £12m for Harry Kewell seems a bit much.

Hey I think if you included more detail on matches it would be a lot better e.g. Formartion/Starting line up and subs etc. Think about it. your doing a great job. What is your starting line up?

going good mate hopefully can make some good deals and push on.

cheera guys, starting to run out of funds now, and don´t really want to strain the club´s finances to much as it´ll only come back to haunt me.
Having a bad run atm though as the next update will show. Chelsea are basically unreachable at the top of the table, should be a bit more balanced... >.<
Oh btw, anyone got any tips on how to get players (that already are in your team, but need work permit) to be able to sign a new contract deal? It´s doing my head in not being able to give half of the squad new contracts...

Month of February update

Injury update:
Stephen Kelly will be out for roughly 6 weeks with a broken arm. Zoltán Gera will also miss atleast the Everton and Stoke matches.
Rodrigo Tello is almost back to fitness, and will probably be available again for the match against Stoke.

Everton vs Fulham:
In a game where Sylvain Distin was sent off in the 38th minute after 2 nasty tackles against Fulham´s Andy Johnson, Fulham were able to take a narrow win home with them. With Fulham being awarded 2 penalties, Everton had difficulties coming back into the game. They still managed to score 2 goals, but in the end it wasn´t enough and Fulham left the pitch with a 2-3 win.

Stoke vs Fulham:
Another narrow win by 0-1 for Fulham, and this time they even needed help from Stoke. With Robert Huth pushing the ball into his own net, this was a game that most would´ve prefered for it to be stopped after the half time whistle such was the display by both sides. Many fans may think twice before purchasing a ticket for a future game between both sides.

Injury update:
Zoltán Gera is back in training and will be fully fit for the match against Chelsea.

FA Cup 5th round – Chelsea vs Fulham:
A dreadful performance by Fulham that ended in a 4-2 defeat. Giving their opponents the gifts of an own goal and later on a penalty the Fulham side will be wondering how they managed to keep the game on equal terms until the 79th minute.
Fulham manager stated at the end of the match that he was disappointed with no longer being part of the competition and hoped that now his players would be more focused on the remaining competitions.

Transfer rumour:
Apparently Villarreal are keen on buying players of Fulham. This time round they made a bid worth £6,250,000 for Zoltán Gera. It looks like Fulham´s manager Beleza won´t have those funds available right away, because most part of the deal would involve monthly installments if it goes through.

EURO Cup 1st knockout round, 1st leg – Bordeaux vs Fulham:
Both teams will be pleased to get the draw here. With the result being 2-2 it still was an entertaining match to watch, with Fulham almost getting the win if it wouldn´t had been for super-sub Gouffran who scored the equaliser for Bordeaux in the 89th minute. Fulham have a small advantage over Bordeaux for the second leg now, and it´ll be interesting to see if they make it count.

Injury Report:
Andy Johnson will be out for roughly a week after getting injured in the match against Bordeaux.

Fulham vs Portsmouth:
Solid 3-0 win for the Cottagers, dominating in every aspect of the game. Portsmouth rarely got a shot off at goal. Fact is that Fulham didn´t do much more in the second half than defend their 3-0 advantag, but still Portsmouth didn´t manage to pose any real threat.

Injury update:
Dickson Etuhu will be out with injury for 3 weeks, missing important matches against Bordeaux, Liverpool and Sunderland.
Good news is that Andy Johnson will be able to be part of the line-up against Bordeaux.

EURO Cup 1st knockout round, 2nd leg – Fulham vs Bordeaux:
One thing that this match didn´t lack was goals. Fulham were close to get through to the next round. At the 85th minute Marouane Chamakh scored the goal that would take the game to extra time, with the aggregate score being 4-4 at this time. 3 more goals were scored in extra time, giving Bordeaux a 3-4 win. Now all that´s left for Fulham are the league and League Cup.

League Cup Final – Liverpool vs Fulham:
Narrow win for Liverpool by just 1-0. An intense battle between both teams in which Liverpool prevailed. Fulham well tried to get back into the game after Fernando Torres scored the goal for Liverpool in the first half, but didn´t have the strength in the end.
“ I feel sorry for the lads, they worked hard to get far in this competition. It´s a fairly underrated cup, but it is a financial and a moral boost nonetheless if you win it. Maybe we should have put more effort into one of the cup competitions instead of trying to win all of them, then we actually may have ended up as winners in one”, those were the words of a disappointed Fulham manager.

Month of March update

Player unavailability update:
Rodrigo Tello, Harry Kewell, Andranik and Mark Schwarzer will be away on international duty and miss out a few league games.

Sunderland vs Fulham:
After 12 games without losing for the league Fulham finally lose. No matter what the Cottagers tried nothing seemed to work in their favor today. Losing 1-0 to Sunderland must´ve been bitter considering that Sunderland are in the bottom half of the league table.

Transfer rumour update:
Looks like Fulham are already looking out for reforcements for the new season. This time a defender seems to be the target of Beleza.
Wolfsburg are offering left winger Vlad Munteanu for £1.3 M, it doesn´t seem likely that Fulham´s manager Beleza is interested in bidding for this player though.

Injury update:
Paul Konchesky will finally be able to play again.

Fulham vs Blackburn:
Fulham supporters will be pleased with their team´s performance today. A 5-1 win against Blackburn today, with Blackburn´s goal being an own goal by Mark Schwarzer shows how this game only went in one direction.
Fulham´s manager Beleza was asked to share his thoughts after today´s game, and said that he was delighted with his squad and that this win may become a great boost in confidence for the players, after the bad run they´d been having lately.

Injury update:
Simon Davies won´t be able to be fit in time of the Chelsea match. On the other hand Dickson Etuhu and Stephen Kelly will be available again.

Feeder club news:
A new board took over Germinal Beershot and decided to cut the link between them and Fulham.

Chelsea vs Fulham:
A bore draw was the score in this match. With 0-0 being the score, both teams will be sharing points today. Fulham played counter attacking football, with extra care on defensive duties. Chelsea dominated this game, but just couldn´t get past the defence. John Pantsil got injured in this match and will be out for 3 weeks.

Injury update:
Simon Davies is fit and available for the match against Wigan.

Fulham vs Wigan:
Narrow win by 2-1 for Fulham, who now are pushing for a spot in the Champions League. We´ll see if they can keep up this form and if their opponents slip. Having to rely on an own goal by Chris Kirkland to get the win, it was everything but and entertaining match to watch. Only few chances created by both teams, made this game as exciting sa watching paint dry.

Transfer rumour update:
Vlad Munteanu, a player that had been offered to Fulham, will be joining Palermo in the summer.

Month of April update

Aston Villa vs Fulham:
Against all odds Fulham got 3 points here. Manager Beleza decided to implement the same tactical adjustments as in the match against Chelsea and was rewarded with a win by 2-3. The last 15 minutes of the match Fulham decided to defend their lead and fought of Aston Villa under high pressure.
Elsewhere Chelsea got the 1 point against Birmingham, they needed to secure the league title. With still 5 matches to be played in the league, they managed to get 27 wins, drew 5 times and only lost once in this competition.

Injury update:
John Pantsil will now be available again and is likely to be in the starting formation against Man Utd.

Transfer rumour update:
Simon Davies could be leaving the Cottagers in the summer, HSV and Celtic seem to be interested in the player.

Fulham vs Man Utd:
Not many may have expected Fulham to win this match, but that´s exactly what happened. High pressure and a solid performance were key to this matches´ outcome. This 2-0 win made both teams swap places in the league Fulham now being 2nd.
“This was a classy performance. No one that saw this match can argue that we didn´t deserve this win.” Such the words by Fulham´s manager Beleza.

Liverpool vs Fulham:
3-0 win for Liverpool comletely dominating the match. A heavy loss for the Cottagers who were hoping to finish this season as runner up with the end of season being this close. Now the last few games are going to be a real strain, no matter the outcome in the end no one would have guessed that Fulham would be cruising at the top. On another note Burnley will be relegated after losing against Arsenal.

Fulham vs Arsenal:
Fulham came close to winning this match, but in the end the final score was 3-3. Leading 3-2 at half time this was an exciting match to watch. Only in the 89th minute Eduardo made the equalising goal and at the same time scoring a hattrick. Bendtner was sent off towards the end of the game. With the season nearing it´s end 5 teams are still battling for the 2nd position in the table.

Transfer rumour update:
Dortmund are offering winger Markus Feulner to clubs for £1.4 M. Fulham denied any interest as manager Beleza prefers to wait to see what funds will be made available for him once the next season begins.

gonna post the update for the last month later today, as i´m about to go out...

Month of May update

League news update:
Birmingham will be playing in the Championship next sesason

Hull vs Fulham:
A total of 7 goals were scored today and Fulham managed to get a win by 3-4. A very entertaining match with Diomansy Kamara scoring a hattrick. Both teams prefered an attacking way of football and as the scoreline shows they neglected the defensive part of the game. Mark Schwarzer probably set a new record with his third own goal this season.

Fulham vs West Ham:
Rodrigo Tello made the difference today, scoring the only goal of the match. Not the most exciting match this season with very few attempts at goal, Fulham will consider themselves lucky getting away with a win here.
Fulham´s manager Beleza was asked to give a brief season overview. “All in all I´m very pleased how this season turned out. Altough I still feel we could´ve gotten some more out ot the cup competitions, we really were able to give the top 4 a good challenge”.

League news update:
Hull will join Birmingham and Burnley in the Championship next season.
