I have been looking at a lot of the other threads and posts on the site and it seems plenty of people are complaining of many of the same problems that I have also come across.

Simple question - Is there anyone on here who has been playing Football Manager for at least a few years who is actually able to enjoy this game?

I seen someone post about going back to FM13 and I thought calm down it's a bit early for that but I really think the match engine seems so ****** up that it could be ages until their is a patch released that means the match engine works in connection with the tactics.

Feedback appreciated.

Ive been really enjoying my game so far. See my story ive done, it is possible to have success

i agree. cant get my strikers to score. score more than usual from corners and its always my defender. koscielny is my top scorer. im creating alot of chances. clear cut and half chances but cant score. opposition have games where they have 1 or 2 on target and score every time. other games they have 20-30 shots when im dominating possesion 60-40. that must mean every time they get the ball they shoot. and away from home i really struggle. numancia batterd me 6-0 in a friendly. then again, i could just be really bad

Not seen much wrong with the ME so far. Only about 3/4 the way through season 1 though!

All I want is for the closing down to be better. It seems impossible to put pressure on opposing defenders when they're bringing the ball out of the back. On FM 13, there was a patch which vastly this & I started getting loads of goals from winning the ball deep in opposition territory. On this FM, players more less walk to close down.

I've been really enjoying FM14, but the recent match engine **** up with the poor defending and player ratings is so bad that I can't play it any more. SI better get another patch out asap.

The main problems I have been having are

1. Far too many goals being scored regardless to playing attacking or defensive formations

2. Regardless to what tactics and shouts you give your team the match engine does not play to these instructions (more on the defensive side than attacking) for example closing down.

I have been playing FM since 01/02 and a few of the games have taking a little getting used as the game has improved year on year but the match engine to this years game just does not work in my opinion.
Iamauser & wicksy87 it has not been about having or not having success so far for me, it just seems regardless to your tactic or strategy the game runs differently to previous versions where you could see your instructions at least remotely work in the gameplay

I'm a couple seasons in and have enjoyed it so far. The comical defending from set pieces, and dominating a game with possession/shots and still not winning does get on my wick sometimes, but I am still getting lots if decent results. The match engine was really poor initially on FM13, so compared to that I think this is alright really.

IMO this the worst match engine to date but I have no doubt SI will fix the issues in it soon, for now just have to endure it

i love this game! all the problems everyone is complaining about i dont seem to have, ok i might have 2 or 3 game a season where i dominate a game create alot more ccc and hc and still lose but thats football and it happens!

Si have got it bang on:)

Total ***** match engine.

Employees at Sports Interactive need to go back to school.

Learn something about computer game design.

Then, they need to go to a football match. And learn something about football.

Although I have been doing well I do think its by far the worst engine they have ever produced, Goals I have been scoring make me laugh sometimes, I think I have scored 8-10 goals from bizzare angles, so many red cards from all teams, each week I see atleast 5 red cards in the prem, hitting the wood work, I have seen the ball hit the post so many times, Goalkeepers are just weird, eg - ball was rolling back to my goal keeper from them hoofing it out not bouncing, rolling steady along the floor, my keeper leaps to the ground and parrys it for a corner to them, i have seen that atleast 5 times now.

But It feels like the engine has been created by people who have never been to a football game or have any grasp on how football works...

Last year I remember FM13 having problems with conceding/scoring goals by coming in from the byline and scoring at the near post but this was then fixed early days but FM14 seems to have multiple problems with goals and general play.

It's obviously easy to criticise but why did they not just take what was right from last years game and fine tune it?

Penalties are still broken. Players can score rebounds that have hit the post/crossbar which is against the rules.

I'm enjoying it and I have no real issues with the ME, honestly most complaints seem completely unjustified once you look into them a little more.

TDJ07 I dont think the complaints are unjustified in the slightest. I have played a total of 12 games on FM14, I always play a fairly defensive formation and look to counter teams. Surely from this you would think most of my games should be low scoring whether i win or lose? In these opening 12 games I have scored a total of 44 goals and conceded 32.

The fact is the game is not running based on tactics or shouts it, in a way, seems to do as it pleases (I realise this comment is a bit OTT but trying to emphasise a point)

That's not against the rules at all, unless you're talking about a penalty shootout.

I think he means the player taking the kick has hit the post and then put the rebound in which would be against the rules.
