Step 1

Browse to the following directories...

Steam Users
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2011\data\updates\update-1120\db\1120\lnc\all\

Non-Steam Users
C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2011\data\updates\update 1120\db\1120\lnc\all\

Step 2

Look for the files Fake.lnc and nleague.lnc. Delete them.

Fake.lnc - This file is the one that disables the German national team and player faces for France & Holland national teams.

nleague.lnc - This file gives fake names to many Japanese teams and also disables the South Korean, Chinese & Japanese national teams.

Done

You will need to START A NEW GAME for changes to take effect.

i'd hate to lose my save because of this stupid deal.

you don't have to start the game over to take effect. just wait untill Germany makes its next call-up, this time (if you deleted the files ) should call the real players

thats what I was figuring, thanks, hope it works

At least for default installation folders.
And yeah, I had the same thing happening, and the only way back was to find a save from before the patch and start from there again. Luckily, I only lost a good month or so, but sadly, I did a lot worse than I did originally.

I didn't have any luck with next call-up, but I guess you can test it by making a new manager and selecting to coach the Germans National team and see if it would work.
Otherwise, back to a pre-patch save.

Why and how did this happen, because my save game wasn't running when I installed the patch and so how did it manage to update to these fake people while my game was running?
Can you make in-game database changes without using FMRTE?

SI must have set the game up this way to avoid any legal issues. Whenever they patch the game the greys come back just in case.

Not sure if FM10 was like this or not.

I was gonna try what you did but unfortunately I realized that the German team was 'fakied' after I deleted all my pre-patch saves. I should have known something was up when I saw a Schumacher score in the Under 19 Championship.

Well, the amounts of bugs in the last few releases has made me change my save behavior, making a new one every month and keeping as many as my harddrive allows for all ongoing careers.
Waste of space, maybe - especially with the size of the saves I have going on - but in this case a career saver.
Sorry for all the guys who lost an ongoing save through the stupid DFB license issue...

P.S. On a side note, maybe you guys could try to not delete the fake but to edit it (like, turn 0 and 1 around in the fake file and such).
If the new update snuck into a current save maybe the same works for user-altered new files. Just an idea...

I just tried to add a coach, and germany doesn't show up on the list of possible national teams to manage.

ugh

I just got to the next german national game, they are still greyed out :'(

looks like I'll have to restart my save AGAIN....

That sucks....been there.

I can only recommend to either switch to unlimited incremental saves or manually saving a new file every month or so. It always sucks to find things like that a few season in and no way back.
Personally, I now check the German team every time before I save, even though they still pick random schmucks over me whenever there's a job opening....

Okay I have tried to do a number of things but no luck, so here I am: I have no filles to delete (to my knowledge) and if I start a new save, I cant pick Germany to coach, the german players is grey and I have no save remaining from before the patch was installed, I have installed via Steam and I have no clue where to find any files left if these exist.. My conclusion is that my only option left is to reinstall the game?

Nope.
Re-installing won't do a thing because it alo re-installes the files that you want to delete.
Basically, you need to delete the inc/all files in all of the folders they are in.
That means, the default files from a clean install and the files for each of the updates.

Wherever you installed steam, follow the rest of these paths:
..\Steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2011\data\db\1100\lnc\all
..\Steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2011\data\updates\update-1110\db\1110\lnc\all
..\Steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2011\data\updates\update-1120\db\1120\lnc\all

and delete all of the files in there.
If you have no save from before the latest patch I'm afraid you will likely have to start all over again, there's no way I know off to un-grey the National team.

Sorted!! WOHOO! thank you very much Micky Pain!!!!

Yeah, previously deleted files won't re-appear after a patch, but every new patch adds those fake files again inside its new update folder.
It's a hassle, for sure, just remember to always delete those or new patches before you continue on.
