Grimsby Town F.C.
'The Mariners'

Est 1878.

Grimsby Town are my local club, I've recently been looking for a long-term save and I thought what better than to start with my hometown team. I was released from Grimsby in real life in 2012 at the age of 18 when my Youth Contract expired and I wasn't offered a new one so the club holds alot of memories in my heart.

The most notable thing about Grimsby is that they are currently languishing in the Skrill Premier, but in 2002 when England beat Germany 5-1, Grimsby was top of the Championship. How the fall from grace has happened. Grimsby is a small fishing town in the north-east of England near Hull. My target is to obviously hit the big-time, but I will be able to make a full in-detail story about people in and around the club and facts ect..

Stadium:

View attachment 429504
Blundell Park
8870 Capacity

Blundell Park hosts the oldest stand in England, the main stand which is still made from wood in most places! Despite that the stadium is one of the best in the league and would not look out of place in League One. It has been host to some very memorable games such as derbies against Lincoln and Scunthorpe and a 1-0 win in the Carling Cup as it was then to Tottenham. Most recently there have been discussions that a new stadium could be being built within the next 5 years which may propel the club in a forward direction.

Tactics:

View attachment 429476

A 4-4-2 with advances wingers. With the attacking threat of our wingers they are best played pushed on, in central midfield we will have one man sitting all of the time to provide cover for the defence. Our strong point is the way we can play as a team, we have a left back in Aswad Thomas who loves to get forward and bomb on to support the winger so when we have the ball he will have a license to roam forward and support the attack. We can vary our play if we come up against a physical approach we have players in the mould of Andy Cook and Lenell John-Lewis who are big lads that hold their own up top, or if we want a passing intricate approach with pace we have Ross Hannah and Liam Hearn

Key Players:

View attachment 478633
Liam Hearn
After a debut season with 30 goals in all competitions last year, Liam became a fan favorite and had clubs such as Peterborough and Swindon after his signature last year, he can turn a game on its head on a instance. An explosive burst of pace and a excellent finish make this guy one of the best players outside the football league.

View attachment 429488
James McKeown
Signed on a free from Peterborough in 2011, A very young keeper alot of people had their doubts but with his amazing shot stopping ability and reflexes he has been named in the Skrill Premier team of the year in his past two seasons and at only 24 he still has his best years ahead of him, he will be very important to try and keep hold of.

View attachment 429484
Scott Neilson
A very tricky winger who puts defences in tangles, he will be one of the most threats going forward this season. He arrived on a free from Crawley after a successful loan spell before. Originally Neilson chose to join Luton ahead of us as he was based in the south of England but he recognised he was playing his best football here at Grimsby.

View attachment 429479
Shaun Pearson
A natural leader and a no nonsence defender. Shaun will provide the defence with leadership and consistency. He isn't the fastest defender, but anything rarely gets past him. He has been a fan favorite since his arrival from Boston in 2011. Aswell at 24 years of age he plays with a man of a mindset of 30.

As you can see, mostly loans brought in this season, I basically just want cover in areas I feel we are weak in if we get an injury. Although most of the players brought in will see regular action as I will be rotating alot with over 50 games this season, players will need rest and get jaded.

Pre Season Fixtures:

Kilmarnock 2 - 0 Grimsby

Grimsby 3 - 2 Bradford
Hearn, Hannah, Neilson

Loughborough D 1 - 3 Grimsby
Pearson, John Lewis (2)

We only had a short Pre-Season as I feel we had to focus on the training ground basics and I wanted to put my own stamp on the team and mould my own style into play before we kick off the season, I feel although we suffered a loss it was a positive Pre-season as we won against a League One opposition and controlled most of the play followed by a strong performance at Loughborough. I'm optimistic going into the season and with the media predicting us to finish 5th I quite fancy our chances of atleast a play-off place and will be disappointed if we don't reach our goal.

We begin our season with a home fixture against:

Aldershot

Fantastic decision mate, really looking forward to see you progress through the leagues. :)

Thanks mate, need something different and more challenging.. Felt my last one was a waste of time, once again thanks for the support.

Grimsby 2 - 0 Aldershot

MOTM: Liam Hearn

A excellent way to open the season against Aldershot who was relegated last year from League Two. Alex Rodman who arrived from Aldershot in the summer showed his former club why they shouldn't have let him go by opening the scoring on the half an hour mark. Just as Aldershot was getting a grip in the game, Liam went and nicked a goal from a set-piece before half time and killed them off. A fantastic performance and a clean sheet to open the season.

Two victories, we have come out of the blocks fast this season, you cannot afford to slip up in this league as there is only one automatic promotion place. A great team performance today, I couldn't say I could pick a Man of The Match personally but it was decided by the match sponsors, old boy Chris Doig showed he's still got it.

A mirror result from the game before and away from home. The lads did the travelling fans proud today who made the six hour trip to London and will be a fantastic journey home. I'm also pleased to see one of the loan signings getting Man of The Match and competing for a first team place. Hearn also made it 3 in 3 for us with another goal.

Well, the Grimsby fans have been treated lately with 8 goals scored in the past two games, another 6 was added today in a 8 game goal bonanza. All three of my strikers scored and I was delighted to see Cook come on to score from the bench. Hearn added yet another to the talley, and loan-star centre back Jackson scored a brace today. However the highlight of the game was the crowd chanting for Lennell John-Lewis by chanting: ''John Lewis, his name is a shop".

MOTM: Will Haining

A poor match on a pitch in scruffy conditions which didn't suit us, we lost by the single goal but never got out the tracks, we was slow today and second to every ball. Hyde are relegation fodder and we should be taking points off them, I will definately see this as 3 points dropped but we move on to the next game and start again.

We showed no signs of a hangover after our loss to Hyde. A confident performance with a trio of goals and a clean sheet today set the record straight, stand out performers was Medy Elito and Lennell John-Lewis, the link up play with them two at times was delightful to watch and we could have had a handful more goals had our finishing been better but we will take that! A perfect end to the month!!

I'm overjoyed at this result!! Luton, presumably the biggest club in the division we went to Kenilworth Road wary of what they possessed, a quality striker in Paul Benson and lots of strength and quality in areas. We rode our luck at times but we was the one to take our chances, we picked the right times to go forward and take a massive three points from this game.

Dartford held us to a draw today, they came to Blundell Park just for that as they set up 5 in midfield and left a lonesome man on his own up top. They was 2-0 up and we was a man lite going into half-time so they must of thought they had nabbed 3 points with the only two shots they had on target until we got a concellation with 10 minutes to go followed by a excellent header from Shaun Pearson to give us a point, a great comeback and shows the spirit of the lads at the club.

In's:

Gary Alexander: After his release from Crawley I was made aware and although at the age of 34 I believe he will be a very important player in this league for us. He has played most of his football in League One in his career so a drop down in leagues should show his quality shine through.

Ben George (loan): A cover at right back for us as we need it because of a departure from the team.

Out's:

Andy Cook: Sold to FC Halifax as never could get in the team ahead of John-Lewis and really struggled at times with his hold-up play and first touch, I hope he can do well at Halifax as he is a hard worker.

Joe Colbeck: Sold to Alfreton, not featured in one game this year as he doesn't fit in the formation. He is also a hard-worker but I couldn't change the system to fit him in.

Sam Hatton: Abit controversial of letting him go to promotion rivals Forest Green but they was willing to part with 20k and future transfer fees. I don't think hes of the highest quality and can be easily replaced.

Lenell John-Lewis: Gutted to have lost the shop but Oxford came in with a 5k bid and 40% of his next fee, I cannot decline his chance to play in the football league although we may be there next season, Lenell was a favorite for us and will be sadly missed.

The Racecourse Ground

Wrexham 1 - 2 Grimsby
Alexander (35'), Hamilton-Forbes (53')

MOTM: Aswad Thomas

Wrexham had won six games in a row coming into this match and was piping full of confidence and grasping a chance to knock us off target in the league, but it wasn't to be. Young Hamilton-Forbes popped up with the winner for us with his first goal of the season and what a crucial one it turned out to be.

Blundell Park

Grimsby 1 - 1 FC Halifax
Alexander (11')

MOTM: Andy Cook

One of our ex-players came back and haunted us, I knew Andy's potential but he needed first team football and he has seemed to settle into Halifax nicely. Another goal for Alexander today has taken the pressure of Liams shoulders abit for being the solumn goalscorer at the club where they now both share the responsibility but a draw will do.

Well done mate, steady start and I'm sure more wins on the way to lead you to promotion! Gary Alexander will be the difference and will fire you to the league title!

Alexanders been sensational for me, one of the reasons I let John-Lewis go and I've got options whether to extend his contract or not.

Its great to see someone do a Grimsby Town career. I have a season ticket as it is my hometown club too. I hope you go one better than the actual team has done over the last couple of years and achieve automatic promotion.
Will be reading with eager anticipation.

Macclesfield 0 - 2 Grimsby
Hearn (20'), Rodman (41')

MOTM: Alex Rodman

A uplift from the previous performance and we didn't suffer any hangovers, Liam got back to scoring ways and now the pendulum has swung from Alexander putting the goals in to him doing it now, we will need to push right to the end should we want automatic promotion this year.

Grimsby 2 - 0 Wrexham
Hearn (74'), Elito (90')

MOTM: Liam Hearn

Two goals in the last twenty minutes saw us push promotion rivals Wrexham further away with a massive win secured at Blundell Park today. It was deadlock until Liam broke through the defence and scored an excellent finish which showed his expertees. When Wrexham pushed for an equalizer we hit them on the counter with Medy Elito securing the result for us.

Hearn (3', 47')

MOTM: Liam Hearn

Another brace for the hitman who tkes his tally to 27 for the season but suffered a bad ankle injury which sees him out for about 6 or 7 weeks and probably miss the rest of the season at such an unfortunate time as we are pushing for promotion.

Hannah (28', 53')

MOTM: Ross Hannah

We was unfortunate to lose today but it's so tight at the top we can't drop points! One of the plus points was to take was that soon as Ross Hannah was stuck in the team he repaid us with a brace and hopefully he can carry this on. Up the mariners.

Neilson sent off

MOTM: Kingsley Black

Worrying as we havn't picked up any points in our past two games. Frustration set in aswell as Scotty Neilson was sent off for a lunge. Hopefully a new month will wipe the slate clean and we can get that 1st spot.
