Here is a comment somebody left on the page "Whenever Ireland, Scotland or Wales play a foreign team, I've always got my fingers crossed for them to win, the same goes for teams like Celtic in the Europa league or wherever. Then a professional footballer turns round and says he hates us and hopes we lose? I don't get the logic behind that John, I'm sorry. Most of us in the British Isles have families with Irish, Welsh and Scottish relations, I know I do. There are no border or passport controls and I can't ever remember being able to buy duty frees anywhere near the Bristol area on my way northwest. So why the ridiculous hatred? That's your thing John, I'll carry on rooting for the Irish, Scots and Welsh in the future too - whether we lose the World Cup or not. You've lost my respect John and I guess a lot of other Brits feel the same way - including the Welsh"

I'm sick of all the pointless comments ******** about other countries. If you hate the English then fine, I have had incidents with the English myself that I wasn't happy about but I don't hate them. I'm glad I don't do this ******** about other countries business because N.Ireland isn't exactly a paradise. I just consider myself lucky that I didn't have to live through the Troubles otherwise I wouldn't be in this shithole. He should have been grateful to those who supported him. Sorry mate if you were offended but you can't get away with making comments that involve insulting millions of people. All the support he got from everybody has been thrown back in our faces. I know cancer is a terrible thing but after those comments I don't think anybody should give a toss about him, he doesn't deserve any sympathy any more, hence me saying he should rot in ****. I know I was harsh but in the end he was harsh to an entire nation. I just feel strongly about people taking but not giving.
Whoa. This part I find a bit much, being a Scottish Celtic fan myself.
Honestly though, I feel he has a right to say that. No, it's not because I agree, but it's because it's his opinion. I mean, I read the story and he did say that he has respect for some of the things that the players have done. Sure, he could've chose a better title for it but, again, his choice. England could go all the way, Hartson said that in the story.
Also, kevymatts, "rot in **** with his cancer"? Seriously? Surely if you're offended then say so, don't actually wish something like that on the guy =/
