Iamauser's Devastating Counter

I dont think anyone would disagree with me in saying Brendan Rodgers has turned Liverpool into a frightening counter attacking side, so I tasked myself with trying to replicate his style of play. It is currently still in testing, but I have so far had excellent results, and I am looking for you guys to test it too.

The Formation

View attachment 423815 View attachment 423814

I have developed two 5-4-1 tactics, the one on the left being the main tactic, with the one on the right being an away/solid tactic. I have so far started every game with the first tactic, and then I usually switch to the second one around the 70th minute if I want to shut up shop and sit on the lead.

The Players

Due to the tactic involving a very high pressing game, it is important all players have good work rate.

Goalkeeper: Nothing special here just your standard goalkeeper

Full backs: Your full backs need to have good stamina and pace, and good crossing will be a plus. They will push forward and look to provide support for the inside forwards

Centre Backs: Again just standard centre backs

Regista: This is one of the most important positions on the pitch. Your Regista will need to be a well rounded midfielder, who can both tackle and pass very well.

PPMs: Tries Long Range Passes, Tries Killer Balls Often

Box to Box Midfielder: Another well rounded midfielder who will need good stamina and work rate

Advanced Playmaker: This player will be your most technically gifted player. He is given licence to roam, and will play a big part in creating goals. Must have good pace

PPM: Tries Killer Balls Often

Inside Forwards: Your inside forwards will provide you with both goals and assists. Pace is key with these players. Good passing, crossing and finishing are required too. Being able to use both feet will also help as they will swap wings.

PPMs: Runs often with ball, Cuts inside

Advanced Forward: Again pace is key. Lots of ball will be floated over the top of the defense, or through on the ground leaving your AF with a one on one situation

PPMs: Runs with ball often, Tries to beat offside trap

If anyone tries this, please could you post any results you have. Im interested to see how it works for other people

I'm starting now with Liverpool. Just made a couple of transfers; Fernando Reges, Alex Sandro, Gotoku Sakai and Xherdan Shaqiri. Will let you know after 4-5 games how it works out.

The only person who might be a bit of trouble there is Shaqiri. His shoots from range PPM might cause him to ignore some instructions, but im keen to see how he gets on now.

Yeah, really annoying, especially when he shoots with his weaker foot from a weird angle. Won my first game 2-1 home to Fulham, they scored from a penalty, not really creating much in front of my goal. Looked promising in attack, and liked the way we defended.

Thats the biggest problem is set pieces. I have conseeded 14 goals in 15 games so far (I lost 4-1 to Southampton, but im classing that as an anomaly as I had 1 red card and got an injury after I made all 3 subs, so played the last 20 minutes with 9 men). I have only let in more than 1 goal a game twice, once away Chelsea, who beat me 2-0, and away against City, where we drew 3-3. All 6 goals came within the first 20 minutes!

At the halfway stage in my save and this is what the table looks like

Have had a few disappointing results, but is working well overall.

I am also struggling to get Suarez playing well, that is my only problem. Playing him on the wing might be why, but with Sturridge playing so well up top with for me, I dont really want to swap them around

I am going to give this a good shot with Wolves in FMC. Slightly different flavour in going with a lower league side but hopefully it should be a lower league side on the up and this tactic can be the basis of moving the club forward.

Definitely interested to see how you get on mate. If you could post a few screenshots of games you have that would be great!

Not a problem :)

What would you recommend towards training/match prep in this system?

I havent been using any myself, but def. positioning would probably be worth using

Since tweaking the BBM ive gone on to win 5 in 5, including beating City and Chelsea. Will release the changes later on tonight

I will try this tactic in my Whitehawk save. Even though I became champion of the Skrill South (by one goal) I was not fully convinced with my tactic.
