A game of few chances was seen with both sides organised and solid from the first whistle. An outstanding performance from Scott Loach wasn't enough as a brave Ipswich side fought hard in a 2-1 loss at the Emirates. The Gunners were off to a flyer when Koscielny headed a Podolski corner past Loach. Tommy Smith tripped Santi Cazorla to give the home side a chance to restore their lead from the spot, but Podolski's penalty was saved by Scott Loach who then made a double save from Wilshere and Giroud. Noone's low cross then found Amalfitano who netted with ease. A mistake from Chambers though, aloud Yaya Sanogo to tuck away and put Arsenal 2-1 up. Town almost clinched a late equaliser when David McGoldrick curled a 25-yard effort just wide of the left post.
