Jamie Carragher - A Managers Story

Been reading your story at work since last week and finally got up to the 203 page! Very entertaining, some wacky stories - resigning at Everton lol. You should have carried on and won the title at Milan, you lost the plot there I think, but I know how boring it can get at the same time. FM16 comes out around November time if you play right up to that point what are your plans before you retire as JC?

Thanks mate,

Had to leave Everton as it was so strange playing as a club I hate haha,

In terms of Milan that was just boring. The Serie A was too easy, well saying that I'm top with Sunderland now so it's getting a bit easy wherever I go, I've figured out the game this year I think!

Always said one more go with Liverpool before I finish! All depends on if I get the opportunity or not. If I win the league this year I actually may consider a new story. I shouldn't be able to take a relegation fighting team to Champions in one season, will see how we get on!

Seems like you sussed it out alright! That formation with two CBs and attacking wing backs looks suicidal but clearly works. I'm not trying it myself though no guarantee it will work. Like to find my own way. Only just playing FM15 took a sabatical as it ruins my social life, but **** it started again and realised I dont listen to what the girlfriend is saying to me as im concentrating on match tactics. Started with Dortmund now Klopps left, the challenge of beating Bayern again.

Haha the funny thing with me is even though I've written 200 pages of story, I have a really good social life, a busy job and a girlfriend. I haven't ever gotten too hooked to the game.

This is my only real save on this FM, and as I'm in 2023, it's took me about a month to get through each season. So I'm not actually addicted as such :P

It was just a scare, nothing else. The doctors didn't ever get to the bottom of it, but it was definitely something to do with my heart. I'd been told to take 2 weeks away from the game to rest, I'd ask Steven to step in as theres no one else I could trust more.

He would take over Swansea in the F.A Cup and two league games, I hope he continues our form because we're in a good position now.

I'd be back for the big one. Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Not a bad few weeks off. Gerrard really has picked up where we left off. Balotelli fired in his second hat-trick for the club against Swansea to put us into the 5th round of the F.A Cup.

We are now 4 points clear. We have 13 games to go but the bottom line is we are top. City and Tottenham can't seem to budge from the bottom and it's looking like the point of no return for Spurs. We're yet to draw which is crazy!

And just like that we lost. So did United so we were still top, but the lead was closed up to one gap. I was gutted. But we move on to the next game and fight. It's looking more and more like the squad are losing their fitness. I can't help but think we could be letting this lead slip away now. We don't have the depth in our squad the others have, so its tough to compete.

I'd had a few missed calls from my agent, and a few directly on my phone too. Unknown numbers. I've always felt intrigued by that so I my agent, nothing. A few hours later I got a call back, I was watching sky sports news at the time and just seen that Skrtel was nearly on his way out of Athletic Bilbao, and Madrid sacked Ancelotti after a long spell there. I sipped away on my beer and kicked back. We had Arsenal in the F.A Cup in a couple of days and I was pretty calm, I did feel bad though.

I ignored the call. I needed some me time and thats what I got. Sometimes theres nothing better than chilling out without a sound. I still wasn't 100% so I was milking it with the Mrs. The phone rang again, I didn't pick up. If it rings again I will.

Training was tough. We'd had to tell a young lad he didn't have a future at the club, that's one of the worst things to do. We'd all been there and at 17-18 you can't help get upset. It's the worst job being a manager, but I always do it myself. I could tell someone else too but I need to tell this kid if he will make it or not. I did feel bad, so I had another couple of beers, and theres no shame to calming yourself down like that when it's once in a blue moon.

Next up on Sky Sports were a few interviews with some Sunderland fans. Hoping I would stay. I was confused. I have no intentions of leaving anytime soon, why would I? The penny hadn't dropped. Until I realised I have been linked with the Madrid job.

It will all just be speculation, I don't care who want's me. I'm not leaving, no way. I text my agent telling him if it's a job offer I don't want to know.

This changed everything. What a heartless performance from the lads. We'd been absoloutely smashed by an Arsenal side not in the top 3. Again I watched Diallo bully us. Theres something about that lad I would one day love to manage. He's scored 8 goals in 2 against me and is brilliant.

Reality hit today that Sunderland are not going to ever be up there. I'm a winner, always have been and always will be. Do I settle for this? Ellis Short give me a chance to sort my career out, but he's left. The club just isn't the same. I'm constantly in fear that I may be losing my job, and that the money were making won't go back into the club.

This is the worst defeat I've faced as a manager. I have some thinking to do. I don't wan't to let this club down.

Another call off my agent, I needed to find out what was going on.

"What do I do? I don't even know if I will get the job. You know what the new boss is like, he will sack me there and then. We couldn't possibly go back after this. I don't think I can do it."

"You have to think about what's best for you, this is Real Madrid were talking about. The biggest club in the world. No one says no to Madrid, no one."

"I know, I wan't to. But I've got commitments here, can they not wait until the end of the season, get a caretaker in?"

He just laughed.

"Real Madrid don't wait for nobody Jamie. How long have you been in this game for. You owe nothing to Sunderland. You've won them a European Cup and you have them in a title race. You're not leaving without giving them anything. They could be in the Championship now if it wasn't for you"

He had a point. I'd done a lot for the club in my short second spell here, and this is Real Madrid. I was just talking about managing players like Diallo again, it's not going to happen here.

"Tell them I will meet them."

I knew what I wanted. I would talk to Nihat and then I would be straight on the plane to Madrid.
We had a game against Granada in a couple of days so I would meet up with the squad after
if I didn't get the job. This is a once in a lifetime oppurtunity.

Would this be my new home? I'd had my interview and I was confident. I just had to wait for the offer.

It was real now. Jamie Carragher - Real Madrid manager. I couldn't believe it. This was one of the proudest moments of my career. Nothing will top winning everything for Liverpool, but with Madrid I had no alliances to them, so this is all done through hard work.

ok so that thumping by arsenal was unexpected!!! amazing for you to get offered the Madrid job especially after how the start of this went, cant wait to see if you get the Madrid job

I was still completely overwhelmed by the move. Just like always, my first job was to ask Steven Gerrard to be my assistant at this great club. But before I got on with jobs, here is a look at Real Madrid.

View attachment 235453
They boast a successful history. No club has won the Champions Leagues or BBVA titles than Madrid. It is only Barcelona who have won more Spanish cups than them.

View attachment 235452
The success story isn't the same in recent history for Madrid. They have only won the title 6 times in the last 20 years, which is something I wan't to change. I was surprised they stook with Ancelotti for so long as he only brought them two titles in his 8 year spell at the club.

View attachment 235451
However, Ancelotti did well in the Champions League. Madrid have won it twice in the last 5 and only missed out on the final on one occasion. That's some record to keep up with.

View attachment 235450
We currently lie third place with a game in hand on Barca and two on Betis. I'm planning on winning the league if I can. We're in the last 16 of the Champions League where we hold a 2-1 away win against Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg. And we're in the Spanish Cup Final where we will play Barcelona.

It's safe to say I've got the clubs backing for when summer arrives. I'm aiming to sign a Galactico or 2 to make my mark.

View attachment 235445
This isn't your typical Real Madrid squad of world beaters. I'm looking to change that over the summer. Hopefully we can still challenge for everything this year.

View attachment 235443
My first game in charge will be a big one for sure. I do miss Valencia, and I'm glad they'r back up there with the top teams.

Although I am gutted as he has been a massive part of my career, I'm made up for Steven that he is now a manager again. He deserves this more than anyone. And I'm under no illusion he will continue to do well at Sunderland, it would be amazing if he could carry out the team to finish the league title.
