Jamie Carragher - A Managers Story

View attachment 297611
Never seen this guy before but my scouts seemed to pick him up, the game says he started playing at 21 years of age which is very different but I could not say no to signing him. He looks like he will be the best midfielder in the world with a few seasons to come.

The Story So Far...

View attachment 297588

I began my career at Fulham with high expectations. They had just been relegated, I had genuine beliefs that I could take the club back up into the Premiership, it did not go to plan. From day one not one of the players put any effort in on the pitch and we slumped to 3 defeats in our opening 3 games. I was instantly hated but I knew it was not me, it was the players. I fell out with the owner and decided I was better than that, but it was not a good start to my managerial career at all.

Where are they now?

After finishing top of the Championship last season, Fulham now find themselves back in the Premiership. They will be looking to avoid the drop for the first season and then build from there.

I had a second chance from Sunderland, but again I did not manage to find my feet. I just could not get a win and the team just couldn't do it. At least they tried which meant I could take the blame this time. My tactics were not ready for a relegation scrap and we went down. I was later fired, and understandably.

Where are they now?

Like Fulham, Sunderland also won the league the season before last. I was happy to see them return to the Premier League as they deserve it as a club. They then finished in the top half of the Premier League last season with strong 9th placed finish, which is some progression!

My career as a football manager was plummeting. I thought I would have to move abroad or to a lower league to pick it back up again but then I was offered a lifeline. Tottenham Hotspurs came and asked me to take over and I jumped to the opportunity. When I joined every single player wanted to leave, and many did. I completed a massive overhaul of the squad and we had a steady season, until I was sacked. We we're four points behind the top 4 and we had took them far in the F.A Cup. It was another classic Levy job.

Where are they now?

They finished 7th. The same position I was in when they sacked me, but they ended up not half as close as when I was managing them to the top four. They are now one of the teams that it's even sweeter to beat.

I then had to move abroad. I needed to try to change my game plan and needed some of the press off my back in England, and when Valencia offered a job I could not say no. I was blessed to still be offered big jobs considering my poor management of the other clubs. I enjoyed a up and down season as we held our position in the top four all season until we had a meltdown in our last 8 league games. I grown attached to our striker Alvaro Negredo who scored 51 goals in that season for us, and then helped us to go on and win the Europa League. I finally had a good season as a manager, and I was well recognised for it. When the Liverpool job came available I did everything I could to get it, which unfortunately ended with me resigning. But I wont forget this club, they give me so much.

Where are they now?

View attachment 297560Valencia finished the season fourth and earned a place back in the Champions League for the second season in a row. They were not in the same league as the top 3, but showed again that with some more work it would be possible. They went out to Wolfsburg in the last 16 of the Champions League.

After a successful season at Liverpool which saw us win the League and the Champions League, it meant I had now won 3 trophy's in my 4 year spell as manager. Only Rafael Benitez has won the Europa League and then the Champions League the season after. Hopefully there are many more to come.

Welcome 2018/2019

Liverpool come back in style to beat Chelsea to the Community ShieldView attachment 297550

I don't know how we did it but we did. 3-0 down to probably one of the strongest Chelsea sides there has ever been. Mourinho keeps them defensively tight as always. Our keeper Rulli made two big mistakes which did cost us. Markovic and Mussacheo give us some hope before half time. In the second half I noticed something which I haven't since Steven Gerrard left, and that was one player dominating a huge game from midfield like new boy Dominigo Narvagas did, and he got a Gerrard style equaliser before Barbosa come off the bench to score two to sink Chelsea. Another trophy in the cabinet, even if it's a meaningless one.

I was going to upload the goal but Google are idiots and I can only verify my account by telling them my old number, which I no longer know, and there are no other options! So I can't sign in to my YouTube!

How on earth does a player like Narvajas come into existence? He's perfect!

With the 2018/19 Premier League season coming up, I have picked out my players to watch from the squad. As much as I think the squad as a whole is good, I do think that we have a few players this season who will show that extra bit of quality this season. The first being young striker Gabriel Barbosa.

Barbosa is still developing but after a great debut season he proved that he has adapted in the league already. He is versatile and can play on the right wing as well as up front. The goals he scores are always astonishing, his close control and composure in the box is incredible. He has many similarities to legendary striker Thierry Henry. The only problem Barbosa could get this season is a run of bad form and if Suarez is firing like he did in his first spell at the club he may not be the main man no longer, but it’s a competitive battle I think they will both enjoy.

The second is Luis Suarez. At 31 the Uruguayan is not getting any younger but he has proved over in Barcelona that he still has very much got it. He outshined Messi at the Nou Camp for two seasons but things didn’t go right for him personally in the last as he fell out with the manager. I’m expecting him to be our top goal scorer this season.

The new boy Narvajas is the one who I think will shock the League this season. After watching him dominate and control the game in the Community Shield against the likes of Oscar, Fabregas and Willian, I was extremely impressed. At 23 he still has time to get better, not that he needs it. I think he could prove to be the best player in the league this season. We have missed this attack and defence minded midfielder since Gerrard. Henderson has been such a solid player overall and Coutinho and Isco are magicians on the ball going forward, but they do lack that defensive solidness that Narvajas possesses.

Another trophy added to the collection which took my total at Liverpool to 4 in just over a year in charge. There are 5 more trophies to win, and I intend on going for them all for the most successful season in managerial history. With this squad anything is possible.

Inter bid for Markovic
View attachment 297175
Bid Rejected

Liverpool have confirmed that they have rejected a bid from Inter Milan for Serbian winger Lazar Markovic. It is thought that the bid is in the region of £28 million. Markovic enjoyed a season of success at Anfield last season finishing as Liverpool's second highest goal scorer and has already hit the net twice this season to help Liverpool win the Community Shield and the UEFA Super Cup. He actually scored against Inter in that game. Manager Jamie Carragher was insulted by the bid:

"Theres lots of talk about Lazar and Inter and there has been all year, I want to keep him here and he's told me he wants to stay. Inter haven't even offered half of what we value him at. Markovic won't be going no where."

Real Madrid are also thought to be interested in Markovic and from past experience, could place a bid closer to Liverpool's valuation. Markovic seems happy at Liverpool so a huge sum may not be enough.

Season Expectations

With the new season started and 2 trophies in the bag already, I am now setting the expectations from myself to the players. We are involved in 5 more tournaments and here are my expectations, in order of importance (low to high).

Club World Cup
Board Expectations: Win
My Expectations: Win

This one should be fairly straight forward. We will be playing much lower opposition and our team is good enough to beat any. It's another non trophy really but every one counts.

View attachment 297081Capital One Cup
Board Expectations: Not Important
My Expectations: Win

I don't care if this is not an important cup. I wan't it. To be the most successful manager in the world you need to win everything, and this is one we slipped up on last season.

F.A. Cup
Board Expectations: Reach Semi Final
My Expectations: Win

Another cup I haven't won, yet. Chelsea knocked us out in the semi's last year to ruin our treble hopes. This year I want to win it.

View attachment 297079UEFA Champions League
Board Expectations: Quarter Finals
My Expectations: Win

Here come the big ones. I know this is a hard competition to win but I seem to have mastered managing in European competitions. Over 2 legs I believe I can out tactic anybody.

Barclays Premier League
Board Expectations: Win
My Expectations: Win

This is my main priority again. Back to back titles would prove that we are ready for footballing dominance.

August Review

View attachment 296970
We mark our first month of the season with a 100% record. We had two final wins over Chelsea and Inter which won us silverware. Our first game of the season was not a routine match at Anfield, Sunderland attacked us and got an early goal and then Luis Suarez got sent off for a dangerous tackle. Raheem Sterling was the man who turned it around for us with two great goals. He can't stop scoring at the moment!

Swansea away was our second league game. It was a game I knew we could win, but it's never easy to go to the Liberty Stadium. Again we went 1-0 down, but we hit back with a Raheem Sterling hat trick and Cavani scored his first Liverpool goal from 35 yards out. A great comeback. We actually come back from a losing position in all 4 games this month.

We finished August second behind Man Utd who had an amazing start to the season. Chelsea and Spurs have already lost a game this season which is good news to the title challenging hopes. It may be early, but every loss for them counts!
