Jamie Carragher - A Managers Story

I'd been up all night trying to work out a way to stop Brazil. Even though they had drew and lost their 2 opening games, a win against us would see us out of the competition. I couldn't see a way past them. A front 3 of Neymar, Barbosa and Ronaldo was enough to make any defenders scared, but I had to think of something. I'd gone back and watched the video's of the last games, what had gone wrong?

It hit me. Italy and Australia literally parked the bus and snatched goals at any opportunity due to Brazil's not so great defence. The only problem was, I have never played that type of football in my life, I didn't know much about playing 10 men behind the ball, we did it a few times with Benitez while I was a player but I hated it, but against this attack I just couldn't see any other way.

It didn't help that behind that attack you had the creative genius in Coutinho. Who I knew extremely well. It seemed impossible to form a squad to counter these players. We were relying on luck on the day, but I don't do luck.

Moller was the only real hope for us. His movement is second to none and he can finish any good chance he gets, he was on the verge of a move to Bayern from Wigan so there were big things from him expected, he could out smarten that defence, but only with some great passing.

I can't officially park the bus, so it's a job to counter them. Hold the midfielder's back until we nick the ball off them and then let loose. If we lost we lost, we had to put up a fight.

If I managed to get us through the group stages, it would be one of my biggest achievements as a manager.

You can do it ! It no shame to park the bus in order to achieve such a huge result ! We Greeks won the European Championship the exact shame way (and an enormous amount of luck of course!!)

Really wanted to get an update out last night, got someone staying at my house for the week while he's on work experience so I've been kicked out, hence why I'm struggling to update! It's so frustrating haha. I've not lost any motivation for this story though :) Just struggling to get the time this week!

Hello Jamie!! I've been a silent reader of your story and I've been following this site for ages. I decided to make an account just to contribute to the stories and tactics section.

Your story is amazing, I'll post here regularly. Best of luck!

Greetings from Greece and a "football manager addict" since 2005.

2022, seems much longer than that to be fair! haha

Haha I'm on my longest save in many years at the moment. 2023 I think so I know how you feel. Although I've not had to write it all up like you have!

Hoping to get my 10 years at 1 club steam achievement. Though I don't really bother with them, I want this one lol

I'm such a noob on steam, don't know how any of it works! I'm hoping I get to 15 seasons before the new one comes out, so it's a bit of an ask!

I have a traditional long term Liverpool/Lincoln save that I do every year, generally get to the 2030 mark. If I get to half that with Luis Garcia, I'll be pretty happy.

The roar from the crowd is just so loud right now. This game meant so much to the fans and the players, and you could start to see that on their face. In all my time in the game I've never seen anyone be sick before a match, especially someone of Okore's character.

"You alright lad?" I cautiously asked.

"Yeah yeah, just nervous" He looked awful.

I double checked with him and that's what he said, can't blame him either, he was about to have the best front 3 in world football playing against him, and he knew he was the only established defender in that squad. Laursen had been great this season for Sunderland, but he was way off experienced.

"Do yourselves proud tonight lads, and do your country proud too. Win or lose, as long as you go out there and give it your all, you will all be heroes."

Jesus Christ! The noise from our dressing room was fantastic, they all got off their seats shouting words of encouragement to each other, they we're up for it alright, and I had an idea.

"When you're in the tunnel lads, stare at them, shout in their faces. Don't do nothing stupid but let them be scared of you, **** scared okay?"

This was something I had never tried before, but actually believed it could throw them a little. I wasn't really expecting the lads to do it to be honest.

I went over to the officials and started shaking their hands, and I got to Martin Atkinson when he literally looked startled, the lads had started. I could see the look on Neymar's face, he looked confused. Ronaldo was scared as anything but you could see just looking at Barbosa that it didn't phase him. He had it all that lad.

We walked out onto the pitch. This was about to be the longest 90 minutes in my life.

Yeah it's quite easy to go far if you don't have to write, but if you're writing it just takes ages!

Yeah, I get a couple of games done maybe each time I load up. Before yesterday, I hadn't actually loaded the file for 3/5 days, I hadn't needed to as I could write through other stuff independently.

Never mind steam to run fm....My PC uses a steam engine it's that old!

I'd be way further in to the save if I had a fast one.

Hope you slipped the officials a few notes during the handshake ;)

If only I could! I will need a miracle to beat them!

Haven't been present in the FM story scene for a few months now but had an amazing time reading this through, so many team changes since I last saw it! Glad to see the story is still going, despite looking like it would "die" a few times along the way :P
