From The Telegraph:

Kenny Dalglish has appeared to pave the way for a sensational return to the manager’s job at Liverpool after informing the Anfield board of directors that he wishes to step down from the selection panel.

The club had issued a statement that Dalglish would lead the search for a successor to Rafael Benítez alongside managing director Christian Purslow but the Scot was thought to be so unimpressed with the shortlist that he decided he would make a better candidate himself.
The 59 year-old’s passion for Liverpool runs deep, having won eight league titles with the club before his departure in 1991, and he is apparently convinced he is the man to recover their fortunes after a tumultuous season in which they could finish only seventh.

Although Dalglish has emerged with remarkable speed as the man to replace Benítez, Liverpool are understood still to be seeking permission from Fulham to meet their manager Roy Hodgson by the end of the week.

Hodgson had been viewed as the favourite to succeed Benítez and the 62 year-old has not concealed his desire to take on one last high-profile job, whether as manager of England or at one of the Premier League’s leading clubs.

Liverpool were riven by in-fighting last season and the hierarchy are desperate to put an end to the tensions by appointing an experienced figure who would win over the club’s disenchanted supporters. Fans were incensed yesterday after learning that season-ticket prices would rise by seven per cent for next season.

Benítez will be confirmed today as the manager of Champions League winners Inter Milan agreeing last night to succeed newly-appointed Real Madrid Jose Mourinho at the San Siro.

Inter President Massimo Moratti said: “We have found an agreement and we have defined the last details, which were not important.

“On Wednesday, we will say when Benítez will be presented. We just need a second signature and it is done.”

The former Valencia coach is expected to sign a three-year contract at Inter, where he will be given a transfer fund of £80m as the nerrazzuri attempt to defend the Champions League and Serie A titles won as part of a treble by Mourinho last season.

interesting

think he would be a good appointment as he knows alot about the club unlike some managers joining clubs they don't have not a clue about the history and what the fans want

So where has Dalglish put himself forward?

Again I am sceptical about these rumours, not only has he not been in management since the late 90's with Newcastle, the guy is losing his mind.

I saw him on Goals on Sunday, about a year ago and he was mumbling *****. Do you think the new breed of Liverpool player will respect him because he is 'Kenny Danlish' ?

He didn't seem to be the most charismatic motivator on Soccer Aid, either.

Why do people insist on looking to past icons to solve their problems? It's Newcastle-esque.

i supose he would be the cheepest choice? also the most passionate.

Roy Hodgson is now favourite at 6/5
Kenny Dalglish is 2/1
Luiz Filipe Scolari - 50/1 - Outside Chance ?

Bingo.

Kenny was hated by the press as a manager. Properly hated because he didn't give them easy stories to write.

Last two jobs he had, he wasn't successful with.

Really don't want to see my childhood hero tarnished by an even closer association with the two leeches or dragged through the mire by numpty fans and the press.

We can't believe it too much because it's not official, it's just been put in a newspaper. Obviously he's always going to be a contender because of his history but also because he's free. Another realistic option is Pellegrini (ex Real Madrid). He's now free after being sacked my Madrid and replaced by Mourinho. O'Neil and Hodgeson would both be good but both probably have quite large conpensation packs which is a definite stumbling block for Liverpool.

There has been talk of some kind of partnership between Dalglish and Hodgson but I always think that those kind of thinks cause conflict. I'd like to see Pellegrini get the job but apparently he turned down Inter so I am not sure if he wants the Liverpool job either.

Tbf, name me a Liverpool manager of the last 20 years that hasn't been criticised. The Southern media, again

its not the "southner taking a pop at the media" its the media taking a pop an anyone they can.

I dont think Kenny should go back,he left a legend and he should keep it that way.

Id go for Manuel Pellegrini. He was unfairly sacked at Real Madrid recently but i still think he's a class manager, done a great job at Villarreal.

That's my thought, but i doubt he'd take it after all that money, going to none at 'Pool

This is a bit like the Shearer scenario in some ways, although Dalglish has had experience before I suppose.
