We were one game away from having a brilliant month, but my players let me down in a big way with our dreadful loss against Oviedo. We were sensational against Granada and came from three down to draw versus Numancia. The draw in our next game with Deportivo was very pleasing, but then we put in one of our worst performances of the season, in a loss that I will not tolerate again!

INJURY NEWS:

View attachment 261288

This is a huge blow for us, with Ager missing for 2 months with strained knee ligaments.

LEAGUE TABLE:

The loss against Oviedo halted our challenge for automatic promotion, but we are in amongst six teams vying for the four play off places. So we have 6 games left to attempt a miraculous promotion push in our first season in Liga Adelante.

TRANSFER NEWS:

Another player joining us at the end of the season. Julen Castaneda was out of contract and will become a very important player for us next season.

Just caught up with the last few updates mate, things are going really well.

Jack Harper looks to be a fantastic signing, I remember reading a story about him saying that his dad was threatening that he may be change his national allegiance to Spain after Scotland didn't call him up to their under 19's squad XD

Thanks mate, thought I'd lost you as a follower! :P

Harper has been superb for me, didn't expect him to do so well so soon.

Our final month and it was the biggest I've faced in my managerial career. We began with a superb win over Albacete with Jack Harper amongst the goal again. After a draw with Tenerife, we dispatched of Llagostera with ease, before being beaten by Alaves. If we'd of beaten Alaves it would've put us within touching distance of a promotion place. The fantastic come back win versus Zaragoza secured a play off place and with that secured, I did rest some players for our final game against Lugo, to keep my star players fresh for the play off games.

NEW CONTRACTS:

View attachment 259478

Following some excellent performances, Jack Harper's agent came to me asking for an improved contract for his client and an increase in his minimum release fee clause. Of course it was a no-brainer to extend Jack's stay with us.

View attachment 259475

After securing a play off place the board offered me a new deal and with a fantastic season nearly at an end and the aim of taking La Hoya even higher, I agreed to extend me stay.

SQUAD STATS:

View attachment 259473

The squad have been in remarkable form for me over the season and everyone has played their part in our success whatever happens in the play offs. The stand out player has to be Jack Harper, who despite only being with us a short time, to score 24 goals and beat Pau Franch's record from last season, is a brilliant achievement.

LEAGUE TABLE:

We finish 5th and have secured ourselves a play off place. I never thought we'd do as well as we have in our first season in this division, but full credit to the squad and what they've achieved this season.

We have been drawn against Alaves in the two legged semi final play off draw. Unfortunately for us we haven't beaten them in our two attempts this season.

Amazing, the team has overperformed this season and found themselves in promotion play-offs (positions that have moved for almost the entire season).
Even if promotion escapes from your grasp, that's one heck of an achievement already... but since we're already here... let's try pulling an "Eibar" off (promoting from Segunda B to Liga BBVA in one go).

Alavés is not the toughest rival out there (that would be Granada... let's cross fingers for a Sabadell's miracle in the other semifinal shall we) but better be careful, Mendizorroza can be quite a tricky stadium to visit.

Good luck, give your all and aim for the miracle.

.P.S.: Pretty surprising league table by the way with La Hoya, Alavés and Sabadell fighting for promotion, Deportivo at mid table, Sporting struggling for avoiding relegation and Zaragoza relegated.

Thanks mate. Yeah we've done brilliant to even be in the playoffs, so whatever happens it'll of been a tremendous season.

I'm hoping if we can get past Alaves, then Sabadell is who'll we will face in the final, so fingers crossed and let's see what happens.

Its been a very surprising season indeed, lots of interesting results and team performances. Next update will be tomorrow, just started a new job and planning pre season for semi pro team I manage, so have struggled for time to play and update.

Thanks for the continued support. :)

RESULTS:

View attachment 259273

We began the first leg of the semi final very nervously and found ourselves 3-0 down at half time, but after some stern words at the break, we managed to come away with a narrow loss. The second leg was a different affair as we took charge of the game and dominated from the off. Thankfully a last minute goal by Agostinho Ca ensured we took the tie to extra time and though there were no more goals, we went through due to us finishing higher in the league than Alaves.

View attachment 259272

Not the opponents I wanted in the final, so we'll have to be at our best if we are to earn promotion to Liga BBVA.

View attachment 259271

The first leg didn't go as planned as we couldn't get close to Granada, as their quality took centre stage. The only positive of note, was Jose Pardo's goal which gives us a slight glimmer of a chance in the second leg. We needed a miracle in the second leg and we were minutes away from taking the game into extra time. Having raced into a three goal lead, I started to believe maybe we'd cause a huge upset, but a mistake by in our defence allowed Granada to score in the 91st minute to earn them the final promotion place and leave us heart broken!

OTHER NEWS:

View attachment 259259View attachment 259258View attachment 259257

Our chairman has decided he's looking to step down and though we got on well, I feel it's good news for the club especially with a foreign tycoon interested in buying the club. And within days a takeover approach was received.

So close, yet so far...
You suffered more than expected to beat Alavés on the semifinals, and in the finals you almost forced the miracle (you were only one goal away of forcing the extra time) but sadly it wasn't possible.

Nevertheless you did one heck of a season and you should feel proud of you accomplished, and who knows maybe with the new ownership (let's cross fingers shall we) you'll have a more comfortable budget to give your squad that little extra "oomph" that can make the difference between a Liga Adelante and a BBVA team.

.P.S.: Jack Harper finally decided to man up and managed to make people forget about Pau Franch, that's very good news. ^^

Cheers mate, it was a fantastic season and effort from us, but it wasn't to be.

I'm not expecting a big budget, as I think the new owners are clearing the debts I've created, oops. Hopefully they may give me a good budget at some point.

Yeah Jack Harper was superb, long may it continue. :D

Great stuff mate, unlucky against Granada but to be honest another season in the Liga Adelante may be beneficial to you and allow you to have a better squad to take up to the BBVA when you do go up.

Also, what are attendances like at La Hoya and have they went up much since the promotion?

Cheers mate, yeah that's my thinking, goodness knows what would've happened to us in Liga BBVA if we did go up. So yeah, another season in Liga Adelante will definitely help us.

Will check attendances next time I'm playing and let you know. :)

TAKEOVER NEWS:

View attachment 258374View attachment 258373

The takeover has happened and we now have a new chairman in place. Pau Prieto has decided to float the club on the stock market and make us a PLC. Hopefully our difficult financial times are behind us and we can begin to develop further, not only on the pitch, but also off it too.

FINANCES:

View attachment 258372

Still not amazing and we do have a few loans to pay back. Hopefully a very good run in the Copa del Rey will help me increase our balance and then we can bring in more players and improve our youth facilities.

NEW SIGNING:

View attachment 258371

Sergio Rico -
I needed a new first choice goalkeeper and with Raul Moreno refusing a new contract it made it an area of concern for me. I was lucky that I could tweak my budgets to allow me to pay 70k for the Sevilla hot prospect and beat competition from Eibar to secure his signature.

FRIENDLIES:

View attachment 258370

I created another 'La Hoya Invitation' tournament in the hope I could raise some extra cash, but it didn't bring in as much as I'd hoped for. Nonetheless we did extremely well reaching the final, only to lose an eight goal thriller.
After seeing us concede eight goals in two games, I spent quite a while on the training pitch playing around with variuos defensive shapes and units to improve our defence and as you can see, despite the opposition, we hopefully are will be more comfortable defending certain areas in the upcoming season.

PROMOTION ODDS:

View attachment 258369

The experts seem to think at 12-1 a mid-table finish is a reasonable target, but I've stuck my neck on the line and told our board I fancy us for promotion.

AUGUST 2016:

View attachment 258281

RESULTS:

View attachment 258278

This is the start I was hoping for, with three wins out of three and scoring eleven and conceding just three goals. Jack Harper broke a record when he scored four on the opening day and Alex Pritchard seems to have hit the ground running too.

NEW SIGNINGS:

View attachment 258272View attachment 258269

Lionel Zouma - If he can be half the player his brother is, then we'll have a fantastic player at our club. A real bargain on a free transfer, but his wages have made me go over our wage budget, so I hope the risk is worth it.

Jose Angel Pozo - Very happy bringing the Man City youngster in on loan. Jose will play second fiddle to Jack Harper, but hope he can be just as prolific in front of goal when he's used.

SQUAD STATS:

View attachment 258257

Since making the defensive changes to my tactic, the squad have responded superbly. Alex Pritchard has been our best player, with Jack Harper and Iker Guarrotxena close behind. I only have a squad of 20 players and with a few injuries to key players, the next month is going to be a challenge.

LEAGUE TABLE:

View attachment 258254

Let's hope we are in this position at the end of the season!!

Wonderful way to start the season, Sporting is one of the league's strongest teams and it's to be expected of them to be in the fight for promotion spots this year and scoring 5 goals in El Molinón is one heck of an achievment... is like slamming into the league table while saying: "we're here, fear us!".

Sabadell was (surprisingly) one of the strongest teams last year and if they did they homework in the summer trasnfer window they should still give a scare or two to the biggest teams this year too, and Leganés is a tricky team to win at Butarque... so good job for those two as well.

Sergio Rico seems nice enough for only 70k €, maybe not starting eleven quality but he should be a decent replacement. Zouma looks like an absolute beast and Pozo will be a more than acceptable replacement for Harper when needed.

Good work so far, keep it up.

.P.S.: Harper is still unstopabble, if he keeps at this level maybe he'll be noticed by Scotland's manager.

Delighted with our start, we've looked very impressive, especially with the big wins.

Sergio Rico was the only half decent keeper keen on joining, so had to take risk. Zouma I'm hoping will become an integral part of my defence and hope Pozo makes an impact too.

Thanks for the support mate, appreciate it.
