Leicester City - Foxes become Lions

Pre - Season

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 13.32.19.jpg

A rather successful pre-season on the whole, which included a 3-1 win over Barcelona which did include the likes of Messi in the side. I tried to schedule fixtures against some sides with European experience to try give us some preparation for the Champions League. Unfortunately Loftus-Cheek picked up an injury right at the end of pre-season and will miss the first month of fixtures.

The board want to see some high-tempo, attacking football this season. This is generally the way I like to play so am pretty happy with the directive, just need to get the likes of Vardy and Greenwood firing. Despite last season success they haven't exactly set me any high expectations with regards to performances - Just need a Top half finish and reach the FA Cup Quarter Finals. I'm sure we can better this.

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 14.15.33.jpg

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 14.16.02.jpg

The bookies have us down for a 7th place finish yet again in the Premier League, with Liverpool and City to battle it out for the Title. I think the aim again for us will be Europa League minimum but really should be trying to hit Champions League.

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 14.14.47.jpg

Finances still looking very strong despite the big money signings and Stadium Expansion. Leaves room for more signings which I have in fact now made and will introduce the latest 3 players in the next update.

Unfortunately we couldn't get the 20/21 season off to a winning start as we hosted a strengthened Liverpool side. The gulf in class was quite evident throughout the match and we were duley punished. Obviously very early in the season but an indication it may be tougher than last year.

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 18.05.46.jpg

Chuba Akpom (£3.1M) - Following the game I confirmed the signing of Chuba Akpom for a bargain price of just £3.1M! The former Arsenal youngster have been playing in Greece and had 16 goals to his name last season for PAOK. Not a star player but adds some much needed depth upfront for a low fee.

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 18.06.00.jpg

Giovanni Reyna (£10M) - I must be honest i've never heard of Reyna until my scouts brought him to my attention. An English teenager who started his career in the USA before moving to Dortmund and even featured 8 times for the German Giants last season. Yet another teenager signed but looks a useful acquisition and £10M seemed too good a price to back down on.

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 22.32.13.jpg

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 22.45.47.jpg

We bounced back from our opening day defeat with a scrappy win over Southampton. The 4-4-2 formation had some success in pre-season but hasn't had the impact i'd hoped for in the opening couple of games.

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 22.43.09.jpg

Declan Rice (£18M) - Whilst he has faded out of the limelight somewhat, he was all the hype a couple of seasons ago for West Ham and England and with 5 senior Caps at the age of 21 is definitely doing something right! I desperately needed another defensive midfielder in the squad to help add some balance to our creative outlets and couldn't believe the asking price reported back to me. Just £18M for a young English International is pretty much unheard of!

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 23.00.19.jpg

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 23.01.10.jpg

We found ourselves 2-0 down very early on and unlike last nights game (real life) we did manage to fightback and actually win the game thanks to a match winner off the bench from new signing, Declan Rice. He was signed to be a holding midfielder but I wont complain if he bangs more goals like that in every now and then!

Another test against one of the leagues top sides and unfortunately a very similar outcome at the King Power. City were just too strong for us and found ourselves on the backfoot for much of the game. We beat them twice last season in the League so is very disappointing to now lose at home. Improvements needed.

The Champions League draw has been made and it's not the news we had been hoping for. We will have to overcome the likes of Dortmund and Barcelona if we are to progress from the group stages of the competition. Although we did beat Barcelona in pre season, early indication of our competitive football suggests the outcome may be rather different when we face them later this year.

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 23.03.58.jpg

So 8 players were called up to the England Squad by Gareth Southgate, which included debuts for new signings Max Aarons and Ben Godfrey. Big things ahead for this squad I hope.

Screenshot 2020-06-30 at 23.05.11.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-01 at 10.17.06.jpg

It hasn't been the easiest start to the season as we had to really fight hard for the 6 points earned. I had hoped for results against both City and Liverpool especially having been at home but they are the best teams in the League on paper so cant be too hard on the lads.

Just the confirmation of transfers at the end of the Summer Transfer Window....

Wow, you got some real bargains there! I reckon Chupa Akpom could be a surprise success for you. Nice job!

A strong attacking performance was almost unraveled by some less than certain defending. Despite our dominance they looked like they could score every-time they broke forward so was just pleased to get away with the 3 points.

Screenshot 2020-07-01 at 23.12.01.jpg

We started our Champions League Campaign off with a dominating win over Viktoria Plzen, but know we have Dortmund and Barcelona on the horizon to bring us back down to Earth. This was a game we had to win convincingly to have any chance of progression and for a rotated side was a very pleasing performance. Unfortunately Aarons will likely be out for the rest of the month.

Screenshot 2020-07-02 at 10.25.24.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-02 at 10.28.55.jpg

This was probably our best performance of the season - We looked comfortable at the back and a real threat going forwards. Loftus - Cheek was a dominant figure in midfield opening his Leicester account with a brace and Godfrey also headed home for his first goal for the club.

Screenshot 2020-07-02 at 13.29.29.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-02 at 13.29.50.jpg

A heavily rotated side for our trip to Hillsborough that managed to get us over the line with a rather late goal. We looked comfortable throughout but a stalemate looked destined until Gray cut inside to find the far corner.

We travel to Stamford Bridge for the 4th Round.

Screenshot 2020-07-02 at 23.04.02.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-02 at 23.08.06.jpg

Godfrey picked up 2 first half yellow cards to leave us in the lurch for much of the game against the Blades. We still looked comfortable despite being a man down but unfortunately were foiled by a late equaliser.

Screenshot 2020-07-03 at 10.07.58.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-03 at 10.08.31.jpg

This was probably the result many predicted when our youthful side traveled to the Camp Nou to face the 5 time winners. I actually felt we performed well and they only created the 1 clear cut chance, the problem is when you have the quality that they do you don't exactly need clear cut chances to score. Hopefully get can get a result in the return fixture.

We climb up into European contention, whilst Liverpool are looking rampant at the top of the table winning 7/7 so far. I'd say it's very unlikely we will find ourselves in the title race this season.

Arsenal proved to be a real nuisance for us last season across all competitions so was good to finally get one over on them. I wouldn't say in was a very comfotable win but we proved to be more clinical and notch 3 more points on the board.

Screenshot 2020-07-03 at 17.10.49.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-03 at 17.12.11.jpg

Serge Aurier went from hero to zero in the opening 5 minutes for Spurs, scoring in just the 2nd minute only to then be sent off for a two footed lunge 3 minutes later. Despite being up against 10 men for the majority of the game we only managed to take the lead in the 83rd minute as we pushed bodies froward. Fortunately a second red card shortly followed to make seeing the game out rather straightforward.

Screenshot 2020-07-03 at 18.17.09.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-03 at 18.16.46.jpg

An extremely resilient defensive performance earns us an unlikely point away to group leaders, Dortmund. A point was really the best we were aiming for so was delighted with the result. They did rattle the uprights a couple of times but sometimes you need a little luck on your side. Only downside was the injury picked up by Rice.

Screenshot 2020-07-03 at 18.30.20.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-03 at 18.31.12.jpg

Possibly our best attacking display of the season as I pushed bodies forward. Although the majority of the goals came in the closing minutes of the game we created numerous chances and really should have scored more. The formation may leave us exposed at the back but will see how it pans out.

Screenshot 2020-07-03 at 22.54.31.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-03 at 22.54.53.jpg

A penalty shootout victory books us a quarter final away to Watford. In truth we were up against a complete Chelsea development side and we had much the stronger side on paper. Looking at the teamsheet this game should have been decided in 90 minutes, so not a great performance on the whole.

Screenshot 2020-07-03 at 23.05.50.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-04 at 09.43.18.jpg

We finish the month with another W, as we see off newly promoted Fulham.

The month ends with a 100% win percentage in the Premier League and a vital point away to Dortmund in the Champions League. Not a bad month. We are just about managing to keep pace with the Premier League front runners and are likely going to need 3 points over either Barcelona or Dortmund at the King Power if we are to finish in the Top 2 and progress to the knockout stages.

We take a massive leap towards the knockout stages thanks to a late Demarai Gray winner. Unfazed by the occasion we looked comfortable throughout the game and following the Red Card to Thomas Delaney I decided to push player forward and go for the win. We piled on the pressure and fortunately Gray found the break through.

Screenshot 2020-07-04 at 10.11.32.jpg

Another massive result, this time in the context of the Premier League. Chelsea have been going well this season and the Top 4 is looking very competitive so to get a result over the Blues is a big step in the right direction.

Screenshot 2020-07-04 at 23.18.40.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-04 at 23.21.22.jpg

On the back of 2 big results we were held to a stalemate at Carrow Road. I went more attacking as the game went on trying to get men forward but we couldn't find the breakthrough and looked a bit off the pace all game.

Screenshot 2020-07-04 at 23.35.15.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-04 at 23.33.15.jpg

As we notched up a 5 goal thrashing over Viktoria Plzen, Barcelona did us a massive favour by beating Dortmund and hence securing our place in the first knockout round with a game to spare! I really thought this would go down to the wire but that victory over Dortmund a couple of weeks ago proved to be the difference.

Screenshot 2020-07-05 at 11.08.15.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-05 at 11.10.32.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-05 at 11.08.40.jpg

We end the month with a narrow victory over the Hammers. I don't know how we didn't score more than the 1 goal in truth as we squandered chance after chance but fortunately it proved to be enough for the 3 points. Aarons picks up another injury to rule him out for a further month.

We didn't concede a single goal in November and our results have made strides in both competitions. It does look like the Top 4 is going to be extremely competitive this year so will need big results against our closest rivals and will have a face off with Barcelona to top Group D in the Champions League.

I forgot to grab a screenshot of the analysis for this one but as the scoreline shows, you didn't miss much. Was a pretty dire game in all honesty with very few chances at either end.

Screenshot 2020-07-05 at 22.31.53.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-05 at 22.35.35.jpg

We managed to rekindle our mojo for the visit of Newcastle. Choudhury dominated the midfield for us and despite not scoring or getting an assist, still picked up the MOTM which shows just well he played.

Screenshot 2020-07-05 at 22.47.46.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-05 at 22.48.41.jpg

With qualification already in the bank, we needed a win to top the group. I went all out attack for the final 15 minutes, pushing for the victory only to find ourselves caught out at the back. So despite the loss it was a good performance and had the situation been different I would happily have played out a bore draw with the likes of Barcelona.

So next up for us in the Champions League will be Juventus. Not an easy draw by any means but qualifying over Dortmund should give us some confidence going into the 2 legged tie.

Vardy's early penalty secures a big 3 points at Old Trafford against the reigning Champions. Surprisingly we actually dominated the game and barely gave them a sniff at goal. Greenwood even got MOTM against his former employers to round it off.

We crash out of the EFL Cup at the Quarter Final stage yet again. I rotated the side quite a bit but still felt we had a strong enough side to see of the Championship leaders. Although it's the least important competition it's never a great feeling to miss out on some potential silverware.

Screenshot 2020-07-06 at 10.59.02.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-06 at 10.59.59.jpg

Back to business in the Premier League with a 3 goal win to secure all 3 points. A pretty routine win in the end against a Bournemouth side that did finish in a Europa League place last season.

Screenshot 2020-07-06 at 13.59.52.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-06 at 14.00.39.jpg

Not our greatest performance but some clinical finishing from Barnes got the job done in our Boxing Day fixture. It was a rotated side to combat the fatigue of the Christmas period.

Screenshot 2020-07-06 at 14.09.51.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-06 at 14.10.29.jpg

Douglas Luiz scored a stunning goal for Villa to deny us the win. We piled the pressure on towards the end but couldn't find the game winner to close out 2020.

It's been a hectic month, playing 8 matches across 3 different competitions. Whilst we have the disappointment of losing in the EFL Cup we do have at least two more Champions League nights to look forward to. We continue our string form in the Premier League but Liverpool look to be unstoppable this season opening up a 10 point gap already.

The FA Cup can often throw up an upset in the early rounds against the "lesser" opposition, but the lads put in a very professional performance. I've been very impressed with Reyna when he's had his opportunities this season and scored another screamer today. This is his breakthrough season but looks to be a very good prospect for years to come.

Screenshot 2020-07-06 at 23.10.42.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-06 at 23.11.23.jpg

Holding put in a MOTM performance on his return to the Emirates as he helped us notch up another cleansheet. Unfortunately we struggled a bit upfront so had to settle for yet another bore draw.

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 09.24.20.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 09.24.54.jpg

Once again we struggled to convert good opportunities in front of goal and should really have been out of sight come the final whistle. Fortunately Vardy managed to squeeze one through early on.

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 09.36.44.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 09.38.02.jpg

Fresh in the wake of the sacking of Mourinho (gives me great pleasure) we exert more misery on Spurs. Grealish was looking threatening all game down the left and probably turned in his best performance for the club to date.

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 09.50.35.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 11.07.07.jpg

(Missed another Screenshot!)

We had to go blow for blow with Brentford in an action packed first half before we finally managed to turn the screw in the second half. They caused us a lot of problems all over the pitch but in the end our quality prevailed.

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 10.05.40.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 10.06.29.jpg

We continue our FA Cup Campaign with a comfortable win over Crewe to set up a 5th Round tie at Goodison. It's been a kind draw for us thus far but Everton are performing well in the League this season and will likely be a tricky encounter to overcome.

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 10.33.49.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 10.35.42.jpg

Another strong performance to end the month. Whilst they controlled possession, our direct approach created more opportunities and the pace up front caused them real problems all game on the break.

So despite only dropping 2 points all month we actually drop down to 3rd on goal difference and still trail Liverpool by 9 points! Fortunately we have started to open up some breathing space on City down in 5th to keep our Top 4 hopes on course, but Liverpool really are looking uncatchable this season.

January Transfer Window

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 10.47.27.jpg

It was a very quiet transfer window for a change with just a couple of deals confirmed at the deadline.

I'm pretty content with the squad I have and really identified us needing a backup LB for Chilwell and possibly a First Team Winger. Unfortunately we just didn't have the budget or pulling power to bring in the likes of Sancho this window and despite having a transfer fee agreed for him (a lot of instalments) he just wasn't interested in even discussing a contract with us. Although I did get a LB in Josh Tymon and then a bargain price for CB Tosin Adarabioyo, who has immediately been loaned out to Burnley.

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 10.47.43.jpg

Tosin Adarabioyo (£900k) - I wasn't really in the market for another CB but after trawling though scout reports saw Adarabioyo's asking price was only £900k. I figured at that price he is worth the investment and could be a useful backup in the squad in the future. As I already have 4 first team CBs I decided to loan him out for the remainder of the season and will hopefully get some game time with Burnley.

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 10.42.38.jpg

Josh Tymon (£15M) - I wasn't overly happy with the agreed price paid for Tymon and spent more than I had been anticipating. We did need another LB for the squad and was really struggling to find many players that fitted the profile I was looking at that didn't have excessively high asking prices or wages. At 21 though he looks a good player and still has room to improve, and I believe he turned out pretty well on previous FMs so worth a punt.

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 10.44.54.jpg

As you can see Chelsea managed to land the Jadon Sancho deal. I did really want to bring him in to Leicester but as mentioned he just wasn't at all interested in discussing a contract with us. Harry Kane wanted to leave for continental football, again as he is English I put a bid in for him just to see if it was feasible but Spurs wanted way more money than that agreed with Juventus so just was never going to be a possibility for us.

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 12.21.45.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 12.23.07.jpg

Well that confirms our title challenge is over. A victory today would have given us a chance but we are now 12 points behind Liverpool. We were actually quite unlucky not to get something from the game and it was very close before the breakthrough, which forced us to open up and were then caught out at the back. Just need to focus on achieving a Top 4 Finish now in the League.

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 17.38.49.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 17.39.32.jpg

After Greenwood scored I was confident we would be able to hold Bournemouth but to be fair Josh King scored an unbelievable strike and was worthy of a result I'd say.

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 22.48.21.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 22.49.03.jpg

An unbelievable European night at the King Power for the fans to savour for quite some time! I really did not except to get a result of this magnitude when we hosted Juventus, but I'll ****** take it! It was an incredible performance to watch as our backline bullied the strike partnership of Ronaldo and Kane, we controlled the game and were clinical in the final third. Surely we cant throw this lead away in the second leg.....

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 22.57.50.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-07 at 22.59.20.jpg

We couldn't quite do the League double over United despite a commanding performance. We had plenty of chances to win it but just couldn't get the ball past De Gea. We keep our points gap above them in the table at least.

Only 2 points from 9 in the League as our form dips, but our Champions League result over Juventus glosses that out somewhat. We are starting to look over our shoulder a bit at the chasing pack for the Top 4 with just 10 games left.

A routine victory over a Newcastle side fixed firmly to the foot of the table. The result never looked in doubt after we got on the scoresheet.

Screenshot 2020-07-09 at 09.46.15.jpg

Only our 4th defeat at home all season, the other being Liverpool, Man City and Barcelona. So really was a game we should be winning and at the very least drawing. We conceded a cheap set-piece goal and had 2 disallowed goals in the closing 10 minutes. Just want to be and an important 3 points lost.

Screenshot 2020-07-09 at 09.56.37.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-09 at 09.57.16.jpg

Despite some early worries following an early Higuain goal, we rallied well and controlled the game against a star studded Juventus side. We were actually very unlucky to come away with a loss but the aggregate scoreline is all that counts and we move on to the Quarter-Finals.

I'd say the draw has been kind to us on this occasion, pitting us against Lyon, another side probably punching above their weight in the competition.

We round the month off with another win to keep our noses ahead in the Top 4 race as Godfrey and Aarons get one over on Norwich.

Here are the top prospects from this years youth intake. Unfortunately no wonderkids on the horizon for us again and will likely struggle to make a senior appearance for the club.

As well as the Champions League Quarter-Finals we have a couple of massive games against both Chelsea and City in April as the season draws to a close. Fail to win both of those and we may find ourselves in a bit of trouble.

Latest international callups as Aarons opens his England account in just 6 appearances. Not bad for a fullback.

Damarai Gray came off the bench to score what could be a decisive goal in preserving our Champions League status for next season. Chelsea have been in terrific form this season so to get a win at Stamford Bridge makes it even more special.

It's never ideal to lose the first leg especially at home and will have it all to do in the reverse fixture now. Yet again we struggle to convert our chances and we evidently paid the price.

A not so convincing win in a fixture we really should be dominating. It was a good defensive display but still have some alterations to be made up front.

We crash out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage following a 1-0 loss on aggregate. I'm starting to sound like a broken record but another 13 shots on target with 0 goals. We have some incredibly talented attacking players so am baffled as to how we aren't as clinical as we should be.

West Ham are battling for Premier League survival and put in a gutsy performance. Considering we took the lead twice it's frustrating not to come away with all 3 points.

After a horror start to the game, going 2 goals down inside 6 minutes it looked set to be a very long afternoon. Fortunately the team rallied to grind out a draw, but could have been a win as Maddison missed a penalty to put us 3-2 up early in the second half.

Everton have been a real bogey side for us this season and comfortable beat us in our own back yard. Despite playing against 10 men for 30 minutes we still couldn't find the back of the net.

Our season is in real danger of fizzling out as our form and consistency has really dipped off the past couple of months. Fortunately the teams below us have also had slip ups and we need just 1 win to guarantee a return to the Champions League.

Despite another defeat we still manage to clinch Champions League football next season with a game in hand thanks to other results going our way.

I've been waiting all season for Vardy and Greenwood to dismantle a side and they finally did it ON THE FINAL DAY! Quite frustrating it's taken this long to get them going and some big performances earlier in the season could have been very useful.

So there we have it the season concludes with Liverpool as champions. We managed to hang on to 4th despite our poor end of season form. A lot of improvements need to be made if we are to challenge for top spot again.

Season Review 2020/21

Screenshot 2020-07-10 at 10.26.52.jpg

Ben Godfrey has made a huge impact in his debut season since his club record signing. He has been a consistent performer at the heart of our defence and actually ends the season as our 4th highest goal scorer! Loftus-Cheek has also been very consistent for us and midfield and has fortunately had an injury free season.

Goals have come from all over for the pitch for us this season with 18 different players finding the net. However, it is a bit concerning that our top goalscorer, Mason Greenwood, only managed 16 goals in 46 appearances. We really need a striker to be consistently hitting 25 for the season across all competitions. He is still only a teenager but has proven he has the ability and am really going to need some bigger performances to take this club to the next level.

Screenshot 2020-07-10 at 10.30.24.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-10 at 22.09.08.jpg

I was a bit unsure of Henderson at the start of the season as he made a few costly mistakes, but he rallied well and ends up runner-up to Alisson for the Golden Glove.

Screenshot 2020-07-10 at 10.31.15.jpg

We also make some progress in the coefficient rankings which should hopefully help us when it comes to the draw for the Champions League Groups later in the year.

Pre-Season + Transfers

Screenshot 2020-07-11 at 22.15.18.jpg

A relatively successful pre-season campaign against some fairly decent opponents. We did have a few disappointing results along the way but it gave me the opportunity to tweak and form some new tactics for the start of the season. It has given me a bit of an idea of my starting XI for the season as competition grows for places, particularly in the midfield playmaker roles.

That brings me on to our new big money signing, Phil Foden. I noticed on my scouts reports that City's valuation had plummeted from £100M+ and although it wasn't a position I necessarily needed to strengthen it was just too had to resit. Jarrad Braithwaite was a similar story really, the asking price just seemed to good.

Screenshot 2020-07-12 at 22.21.02.jpg

Phil Foden (£43.5M) - The English wonder-kid still waiting for his first International cap. Pep has always spoken highly of him but with the quality in the City side, just wasn't getting the first team opportunities he needed. It's going to be fun playing the likes of Grealish, Foden and Maddison alongside each other and interested to see how he'll slot in.

Screenshot 2020-07-12 at 10.59.39.jpg

Jarrad Braithwaite (£23M) - I had been tracking Braithwaite for a couple of seasons now and after he was transfer listed for just £23M decided to bring him in. I really wanted a dominating CB for set pieces and with a jumping reach of 19 on a lad just under 2m i'm hoping he'll be just that. He's only 19 still so plenty of time to further develop.

Screenshot 2020-07-12 at 22.20.05.jpg

Despite back to back Top 4 finishes we are predicted 7th place for the third consecutive year. Honestly seems like they just leave the Top 7 as it is regardless of anything else.

Our opening 3 games went largely as expected I'd say, but once again Burnley get the better of us. I'm pretty sure thats 3 straight games we've failed to score against them now and have lost back to back games. Am really going to need to try something different to break down the formidable 4-4-2 formation.

Unfortunately Maddison also had to hobble off injured in the defeat at Turf Moor and will be out for around a month.

Screenshot 2020-07-12 at 13.47.22.jpg

The Champions League Draw was made pitting us against Bayern and Milan in the race for a top 2 finish. I'd say its an easier group than last season so am optimistic but Zenit are no walkovers and could cause is problems in the so called "easy" games.

We managed to hold on for a massive result over the current Premier League Champions. They piled the pressure on at the end but we managed to hold on to secure a massive 3 points.

Screenshot 2020-07-13 at 22.47.06.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-13 at 22.47.52.jpg

We faced a Bayern starting XI that has barely changed throughout this 2 year story and have instantly boosted our chances of progression with a victory over the German Giants. They didn't threaten our goal all game really and despite my nerves on the touchline was a comfortable win in truth.

Screenshot 2020-07-13 at 23.03.01.jpg
Screenshot 2020-07-14 at 22.25.54.jpg

Possibly our best attacking performance against Brighton was followed by a slender win over Cardiff to progress to the 4th Round of the EFL Cup. It was a heavily rotated side and good to see some players have a run out.

Screenshot 2020-07-14 at 22.47.57.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-14 at 22.47.47.jpg

We were just minutes away from another crucial victory over City. I probably would have taken a point at kick-off against the star studded side but having led into stoppage time, feels like 2 points dropped rather than 1 point gained.

Mason Greenwood showing what he can deliver on the big stage as we made the trip to the San Siro. He has now scored 6 goals this campaign already and is only 10 behind his tally for last season, we need the teenager to have a big season in front of goal.

Screenshot 2020-07-15 at 08.51.56.jpg

The only real blip in the first couple of months of the season is the result at Burnley, other than that it's been a very strong start to the season across all competitions.

8 Senior England call-ups and a further 7 in the development squads. With the World Cup around the corner how many players can we get on the plane.

A couple of late goals secured another crucial result against a Chelsea side that finished 2nd last season. They finished 14 points above us and shows the progress this young side has started to make.

The games start to come thick and fast as we are competing across 3 different competitions. We did suffer a disappointing 4th Round exit of the EFL Cup against Leeds, but a couple of narrow wins against Zenit keeps us top of the Champions League table on a maximum 12 points out of 12. The win over West Brom also makes it 6 wins on the spin in the Premier League as we start to ease into the Top 4.

Screenshot 2020-07-15 at 23.04.07.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-15 at 23.05.25.jpg

Despite a good performance in Germany we come away empty handed after conceding an early set piece. That means we need at least a draw as we host AC Milan to secure our place in the knockout stages along with Top Spot.

Back to the Premier League as we secure 3 more narrow wins to extend our win streak to 9! I'd prefer some more comfortable victories but cant really complain when we are managing to grind out the result.

Screenshot 2020-07-16 at 13.52.40.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-16 at 13.53.43.jpg

We needed at least a draw, but ended up comfortable victors thanks to a couple of soft penalties. So after we essentially knocked AC Milan out of the Champions League we will now be facing their rivals Inter in the First Knockout Round.

We nearly staged the comeback of the season after going 4-0 down against United inside 37 minutes. Clearly I got my tactics completely wrong and after some tweaks and half-time bollocking we pulled 3 back and had a couple of late chances to equalise. An exciting game for sure but marks our first home loss of the season in all competitions.

It turned into a pretty jolly festive period for the Foxes as we hammered both Villa and Wolves to bring in the New Year with a bang, including Braithwaites' first professional goals of his career.

Despite barely slipping up in the Premier League we only end the year in 3rd, 3 points behind City. We are definitely still in the mix for the Title but still have just under half the season to go.

January 2021

Screenshot 2020-07-18 at 11.17.04.jpg

We kick start 2021 with a bang, as we absolutely demolish Barnsley in the FA Cup 3rd Round. The teenage duo of Bellingham and Reyna ran the show notching up 5 goals and 2 assists between them. Definitely pushing for regular starting spots now.

Following the game we announced another Coup signing, landing Dele Alli for just £33M! For some reason he had fallen out of favour at Spurs and found himself on the transfer list and didn't take me long to meet the asking price. Whilst we are overloaded with AMC talent Alli is equally adept at playing up front and need another option to replace the ageing Vardy.

Screenshot 2020-07-18 at 11.18.01.jpg

The signing of Alli meant that I made the decision to load our Reyna despite his recent hattrick. Although I am giving him game time, Frankfurt have assured me he will be a regular starter and can hopefully boost his development. He definitely looks a talent for the future though.

Maddison's penalty gave us the win over City, which means that we have now leapfrogged them into 3rd place in the League. We had to withstand some heavy pressure late on but held firm.

Screenshot 2020-07-18 at 12.18.44.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-18 at 12.20.30.jpg

Just 3 days later and we travelled to Stamford Bridge for another massive fixture in the Title race. Dele Alli bagged his first goal for the club as we thrashed Chelsea to move into 1st place for the first time this season. Still a lot of football to be played but another massive result for us.

Screenshot 2020-07-18 at 12.31.11.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-18 at 14.13.55.jpg

A couple more wins in the League ensure our 100% win rate this month. The Everton result was a bit fortunate though I must admit.

We then had to dig deep to earn a replay in the FA Cup 4th Round. I did field a full strength side as I do want a Cup run this year, but will now have to overcome Arsenal at the Emirates.

Screenshot 2020-07-18 at 13.57.31.jpg

We narrowly sit above Liverpool at the top of the table and have managed to open up a healthy gap over Spurs in 5th.

Could this be our year...

After 210 minutes of football we cannot be separated before both Vardy and Maddison missed our opening penalties in the shootout to send us crashing out of the FA Cup at only the 4th Round. I played a near full strength side and did want a cup run so is very disappointing considering how well we are playing this season.

Screenshot 2020-07-18 at 22.57.28.jpg

Just a few days later and we faced Arsenal yet again, this time in the PL and this time we get the win.

Screenshot 2020-07-18 at 23.17.25.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-18 at 23.18.00.jpg

Greenwood managed to pounce on a mistake late on to score what could be crucial away goal for in the CL last 16.

Screenshot 2020-07-19 at 10.20.43.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-19 at 10.21.21.jpg

After the home defeat earlier in the season we get our revenge on United. They always cause us problems despite this seasons struggles so a very valuable 3 points.

Screenshot 2020-07-19 at 10.58.27.jpg

A couple more PL games and Spurs finally end our 10 game win streak in the PL as Liverpool close in.

Screenshot 2020-07-19 at 11.12.06.jpg

Screenshot 2020-07-19 at 11.12.51.jpg

We manage to see off Inter in the second leg to record a 3-1 aggregate win and send us through to a Quarter-Final tie against French Giants, PSG. Can we go a step further than last year? It'll be tough but we are playing better football I feel this season generally.

Back to winning ways in the PL as we record some comfotable victories over the newly promoted sides and keeps us clinging on to first place.

Screenshot 2020-07-19 at 11.16.55.jpg

For a third straight year our Youth Academy fails to produce any potential superstars and will likely never feature for the senior side.

We remain top of the PL by 3 points, although Liverpool have a game in hand on us and a far superior goal difference. Barring a complete collapse we will be playing CL football again next season but will hopefully do so as Premier League Champions.

So 9 senior England Call-Ups including debuts for James Justin and Jude Bellingham. They become the 13th & 14th players in our squad to have senior caps.
