Messi has the upper hand because Ronaldo hasnt expanded his own game. What Ronaldo can do has no bearing on the fact that Messi has stayed at Barca. Ronaldo has to take responsibility for the player he wants to be. He didnt have to leave United remember, he was the one who wanted to go

He is a record breaker. I love Ronaldo, and for me he is the best player EVER, maybe because he is portuguese like me, and the fact that he has the same nationality as i do, obviously is an influence, but, anyway, i can obviously see his main priority is to break records, he destroyed the BBVA league in the 1st season, he is doing the same this year... He did the same in the EPL... When talking about the player himself, i do believe he is better then Messi. But like i said, it's my opinion, i also like Steven Gerrard a lot, and for me he should have been awarded best player in the world in the 08/09 season... But he wasn't, so even though if it's not what the majority thinks, i won't change my mind :P .

How anyone can say that Messi didn't outshine Ronaldo today is ridiculous. Ronaldo did nothing all game apart from bury freekicks into the wall and miss sitters. Messi cut through the heart of the Madrid defence on numerous occasions, got himself an assist, and even won three tackles to boot. Yes, perhaps his second bookable offence was clumsy, but he wasn't sent off and thus we can only judge him on what happened in the game.

I remember Kaka's quotes everytime I see him warming the bench. Him and his dad played up Madrid as the chance to make Kaka a legend, it hasn't worked like that at all and now he finds himself not even in the top 20 players in Europe yet alone the top 3. Kaka is a guy who is former Footballer of the year, he leaves to go to Madrid and his career slides.

I understand why Ozil/Khedira/Sahin/Benzema/Higuain/Alonso/Di Maria/Carvalho go to Real Madrid, I don't understand at all why Kaka and Ronaldo joined Madrid. They both claimed it was some sort of dream as a child to emulate the likes of Puskas and co, but if they step back now they would have to admit it's almost killed any chance either of them had to go down as legends (Legends in the breath of a Messi, they will be on par with the Figo bracket of players that should have achieved more).

Ronaldo's plan B is basically get a free kick and take it, Messi's is run back 30 yards pick it up on the halfway line and break the opposition midfield line and play a pass. That's the difference between them as personalities, Ronaldo worked hard to get to where he is (Most of the work at United) and he hasn't developed a more technical side to his game while at Madrid. All the Madrid staff work on with Ronaldo is keeping him at his physical peak, he does no work on improving his passing range or positioning in the midfield.

Lol. What.

It says a lot that you consider Ronaldo the best player ever when he hasn't even finished his career. He destroyed La Liga, yes, but his selfishness hardly did wonders for Madrid.

Videos? Please i can show you 100 videos from Ronaldo.. Videos only show the good things. Don't be pathetic.
Just going to ignore everything I said, are you? Yes videos only show the good things, but the 1st video shows FACTS, which cannot be ignored - Messi does NOT rely on Xavi and Iniesta. I posted the videos because you obviously don't watch Messi; if you did you would know that he does play well for Argentina, and doesn't rely on Iniesta and Xavi. Me don't be so pathetic? lol...I'm not the one coming out with a load of rubbish. Just stop crying and get over it - Messi is - and always will be - better than Ronaldo.

Exactly. When Ronaldo loses his physical attributes as he ages, what will he have left? He's a decent passer, no more. As he loses his pace, how will he get into the positions that enable him to influence a match? Unlike Messi, who as he ages can drop into midfield and dictate the game with his passing and teamwork. He's far more complete than Ronaldo, and that, for me, is why he is the superior player. Not because he's necessarily better at certain things, he is just more complete.

Ronaldo would be a more rounded player had he stayed at United, SAF was basically trying to turn him into a complete forward, a portuguese imitation of Henry. He gets plaudits, but i dont think he is a rounded player, on that aspect he has regressed imo

Lol at Ronaldo haters. Everytime he has a bad game, people have a field day when he has a bad day and instantly compare him to Messi. **** this. There is Ronaldo Vs Messi thread for that.

On the game Barca were superior team. Madrid started so well but once Barca scored the goal they took control of the game. They completely outplayed Madrid and shoulders dropped very soon. Pepe is awful, ******* awful. In the first half alone Marcelo tackled Messi at least 4 times. That was awesome then he faded away.

Overall Barca were much superior team.

On other note, ManUtd lost 3-1 in neutral venue, we were in crisis, Madrid lost in their own backyard still they are awesome team.

Yes if you look at the team both have glaring weaknesses but make up for it with supestars such as ronaldo and when he plays bad the weaknesses are highlited.

Someones lost £200

You know in retrospect, as easy as he did lose that £200 he could of easily won more if Ronaldo took his chance in the first half where he should of hit the target and the header miss later in the first half where after ; Dani Alves raced down the right and directed a pinpoint cross onto the head of Cesc Fabregas to make it 3-1. But nonetheless he did not convert either and that was the result of the scoreline and that was the result of him losing his bet what he had could of easily won if it was on a finer day for Ronaldo .

See, I don't like CR. Such an egotist. He is a wonderful footballer, no question, but I agree with Mike. Real signed him more for the publicity and merchandising reasons than his footballing talents, much in the same way they signed Beckham. SAF knows how to mould a footballer, he has done it with countless players. The only one he got wrong was Alan Smith(ST>CM). I see why he would try, he was a carbon copy of Roy Keane(aggression/determination etc), but Smith is an average footballer.

As much as Ronaldo even Messi will lose with age. His main asset is his acceleration, agility, ability to change direction at will at such a speed. With age he will lose the acceleration, agility. He will no doubt will fit in nicely in midfield, but wont be half the player he is now.

I disgree. Messi is all about technical prowess and style, and his pace and the like will not deteriorate as much or as fast as CR, due to his small size. He already drops into midfield now and again when play requires it, so he is already adapted to that.

I'm not saying he depends on physical attributes, defenders can't get near him due to his amazing acceleration and ability to change direction at top speed which I dont think will last in his 30s. He will eventually move into midfield position though. He will last longer than Ronaldo, but saying only Ronaldo will struggle once he loses his pace and physical attributes is wrong imo. Also the way he looks after himself I dont think he will decline as people here say. He is just beast physically who works harder than most.

This. Might be that Ronaldo ages even better than Messi and ends up playing until 37-40 if he keeps working like he does.

I didn't say that(or i posted wrong). No player can go through a career without deteriorating physically, but I think it will be CR that does before Messi. But hey, that's my opinion.

Still, Messi's style of play makes it more likely that he will adapt and evolves as he reaches the end of his career. Ronaldo will be like Beckham IMO, still has the eye, the pass and skill, but will not have anywhere near his old amount of pace to make him as effective as before. Although, maybe a drop to AM, sitting behind a main striker(a la Raul etc) would suit his game, becoming more of a deep trequartista.

Yeah no player can go through without losing physically. If both players loses I have no doubt that Messi will still be a better player as he has amazing intelligence, passing and link up play. All I'm saying is Ronaldo is a beast and works incredibly hard to keep himself in the shape. He is top professional. IMO Ronaldo will still be a beast in his early 30s.

Messi might lose his acceleration, but he will retain all the other facets that make him a wonderful player: touch, vision, and most importantly a passing foot bettered perhaps only by Xavi and Iniesta. Ronaldo, on the other hand, has a few things Messi does not: a thunderous free kick (when he can get it over the ******* wall, anyway), a crashing long-range drive, an aerial presence and... well. That's about it. Fact is, Messi relies on his physicality and speed far, far less than Ronaldo does, and as such can expect to have greater longevity.

Just think about all the other great forward/wingers there are. How many of them have continued playing on at the highest level for a long time after, say, the age of 33? Not too many. Ryan Giggs is perhaps THE example, but past him? I'm not saying Messi won't decline at all - that would be foolish - just that he will decline at a far slower rate than Ronaldo.

He will lose agility with age. And I didn't deny that Messi will be better player when they both start decline, I said Ronaldo is a top professional who works very hard on his fitness. So he might not decline so early like people are assuming.

What GC is getting at is that he has much less about him without his physical prowess. You can see Messi being scholesesque in the ability to dominate a game at 36+ you cannot say the same of Ronaldo. No matter how good you are with your body, you decline quicker physically in football than mentally/technically
