I'm in the process of trying to create the best tactic for Football Manager 2011 Patch 11.3

I dont think many people can argue that the most dominant teams in the world at the moment are Barcelona and Spain, and this is obviously because of their high possession

So i want to make a tactic very similar to their tactics, with high possession and a lot of CCCs, but also with a good amount of clean sheets

Any help would be appreciated, I'm going to be testing with Blackpool, as they are the weakest team in the Premier League, but if they dominate games with such an average squad then we'll be on to a winner

Yah I can help ya as Im trying to get as Barca style play as possible with Barcelona, using 4-5-1 formation.. :)

My problem is that I'd like to keep Messi as Trequartista, what means the game would be around him yet I want Xavi to be the centre of things. I fail to get my team-mates to play via Xavi, dunno how I could make him to be ''everywhere''.

cool glad to have you on board :)

im testing a 4-3-3 tactic atm, and after 11 games of holidaying with Blackpool theyre 13th on 12 points but their goal difference is very very poor :P i'll post a proper update in the january transfer window

A hint on the way

If you truly want to make a tactic that really works, you cant use the holiday mode as it will tell you nothing. It wont tell you what chnages during the game the assistant manager makes or what opposition instructions he uses. You also cant see what worked and why ( unless you watch the games afterwards)

thanks for the hint and i agree with you, just it would take a very long time to do a season with a different tactic each time

so my thinking was to holiday a few tactics and see which was the most successful with obviously a rather average assistant manager in charge and with a good possession and cccs

when i see which tactic has potential i plan to spend a lot more time on it :)

I Might Try 4-2-3-1 It Might Work It Might Not :)

i would love it if it worked with that formation, im a swansea fan and thats the formation they play with and they play the barcelona way and it all works very well in real life, hoping it can happen on football manager too :) keep me updated :)

i will do mate im going to do it by not signing any one as well hopefully it will work the team if not ill try it with another team

you are more than welcome to use this tactic and edit it to your liking/perfection...

as Betterhalf said, you are not going to see anything holidaying! you are just wasting your time to be honest! you need to watch at least the extended match even full match to tweak the tactic exactly how you want it and to bring out the best of your playesr...

Raikan007's Perfect 4-3-3 tactic

yeah thats what i'm trying too

my first try though looks to be failing :P 18th in january with only 3 points from 9 games :P not getting the possesion or any goals from set pieces either :P

Well it seems now I've managed to get Xavi organizing the play moar, again with 4-5-1 with DM.
Played 3 games, possession average sumething like 65%, 0 goals conceded, 3 wins, 14 Goals..

But still Im failing to get pass numbers high, Xavi gets like 50 passes..

thanks man, i think i probably do need to play a few games with it just to see exactly where its going wrong

what you should have done is spent the time actually designing a tactic that actually worked then started the thread and asked for whatever it is you are asking for... now you are just making yourself look like a bit of a muppet :)

post your tactic screen to see whats going on and we can try and help you...

I believe his intention is to get ppl unite their heads and try and figure out this tactic and then share own experiences and then unite the experiences into a one ultimate domination tactic :D

yes of course, but what I am saying is that he should have created at least a basic tactic that was decent enough to start off with :)

bingo! :)

i want to get the best set piece tactic, possession tactic, attacking tactic and defending tactic and put it together :)

and Raikan im used to looking like a muppet :P

Yeh but then it would be the base to every tactic as the meaning was to figure out how we are able to play the great possession football, Its not necessarily achieved with one way :)

haha its like you read my mind! :o

im trying again with my 4-3-3 but going to take control myself but with no signings etc etc

My thoughts on it

Assumptions

- You want a tactic that will work with all balanced* teams
- You want this tactic to provide a good possession
- you want this tactic to let the players take advantage of this possession, leading to lots of goals
- you want this tactic to be so solid that your defenders will be on their toes when the opposition finally puts that t-ball onto a player, on their toes, not losing concentration late in games, giving away soft goals
- You want this tactic to be a plug & play tactic

My Stating: For this to happen, you will need to exploit those holes that does exist in the match engine

Starters:

The formation ( position, width and d-line) must be exploiting
- Using a high d-line, lots of width and overloading certain areas, like the gap between the fullbacks and Dcs. Here, the formation will be the 424 using MC-Mc-AMR-AML.

The approach
- You need to retrieve the ball, breaking up attacks early but you attacks should not start in haste but instead just as the opponents has made their initial push up, dragging them out of position, being out of position when you counter them/ retain possession in your advanced positions Here, you need a high closing down system but without too many t-balls or runs from deep.

Keeping possession in defence when needed to

To be able to keep the ball in the team when the opponent sit deep, you need some players holding on to the ball. Whilst these players might not provide the key passes, you still keep the ball in the team, in the end, leading to a patient and probing attack, finally pulling them out of position by constant movement sideways up front

Summary - You need to have a squad good enough too booth breaking up attacks and have the intelligence to know when and how to put the key passes. You need to overload certain areas and you need players with good team work so they don't go straight at goal and play their own game.

* Teams that has balance in the squad in terms of players with defensive skills, leadership, hardworking players, players with flair and creativity and players with attacking skills

Well my progress;

4 Games played, 4 Wins, 0 Conceded goals and 30 Goals made.
Possession figures been minimum 60%, best ive got so far 70%.
I would post screenies about the games if I just found the thread ''How to take screenshots'' or wtf its called, never done it at this forum.

EDIT:
Aww ****, Real Madrid just made a goal.
