All 2014 games used 4-3-3 with DM, after that switched to 4-2-3-1 AMC. What did I tweak:
1. Offensive corners just a bit, so they would work as in original tactics.
2. Changed defensive corners after conceding 5 from corners in like 3-4 games. Worked wonders for me, didn't concede from corner ever since.
3. Shape, obviously. 4-2-3-1 worked better in my opinion. Because I was leaking goals and DM was sacrifised in favor of scoring and outscoring opposition, didn't think that improving defense by setting counter mentality and other tweaks would work.
4. Remove hard tackling from CB's. Lost some pretty important games because of red cards.
5. FB roles, and corrected PI's of offensive players.

Funny thing, when I was man down, tried removing everyone, nothing clearly worked. Then in 2 games I removed one of CB's, and those were the games I won and outscored opposition. So, again, we score more than you type of tactic(H).
Overall now I am very happy with the setup and with player roles in tactic, really love 4-2-3-1 formation. I am not saying it is better than original by all means, I just tweaked to something I like and something that works very very well for me.
I attach some of the screenshots from my season. All 2014 fixtures were played with 4-3-3 DM, remaining with 4-2-3-1 AMC. After 15.03.15 Malaga game all the small tweaks were finished.
Maybe I forgot something I wanted to tell, I will add later.

postman123, great that it worked for you, for me AMC was a bit better, because as I said I was leaking anyway with poor defense. Back 4 and DM can be tweaked for more stability for sure, I didn't look into them that much. Will be waiting for your feedback and results :)
 
will do give me a few hours, will get a good head of matches under my belt, i am seven oaks at level 9 in england, just beat fc romania, 0-4 away they were 13-2 fav to win, there team has quality players for this low down, and they are well mosr romanian

Is there any specific situations where you use 4-3-3 or 4-5-1, for example home and away?

Also, did you change mentality? If so, did you also change the pressing?
 
People asked me about attributes in PM, so I will post my thoughts on them here. Players and attributes I suggest are mostly for top teams, adjust according to your team strength:
GK: nothing special, best you can get. Focus on shot stopping attributes (Agility, Reflexes, Handling, Positioning).
DC's : I prefer quick, all round players there. FM15 treats slow defenders like **** for me and they perform poor. So:
Acceleration 12+, Pace 11+, Heading 12+ (important because they will win some rebounds on corners and score extra), Vision and Passing 10+ would be great for them to launch counter attacks. Other attributes just for your typical CB, marking tackling positioning etc. Players like Otamendi, Balanta, Bartra, Bonucci will perform great.
DL/DR: Try to get player with high long throw there to exploit set pieces, 14 is minimum if you want your player to teach long flat bullet throw. Other than than, those are your typical full backs, look for Stamina, Workrate, Marking/Tackling/Positioning and Crossing is a plus. I always prefer defensive full backs with high defensive stats to brazilian attacking full backs. Players like Ricardo Rodriguez are awesome, can train bullet throw straigh away and performs even with his lack of quickness. Other players: Cesar Azpilicueta, Lucas Digne, Dani Carvajal.
CM's: Box to Box players, those who can both defend and attack. Marking and Tackling 12+, otherwise you will loose midfield control. Obviously, CML with best long shot, but CMR important too. For further set piece exploit, Long shot 15+, technique 14+, Decisions 10+, Finishing 8+. For open play, work rate, stamina will give you good. I wrote some good PPM's few post back. Players like Pogba, Koke, Lazzari, Yaya Toure, Lampard will do the trick (Lampard not very good physicaly but turned out to be awesome long shooter).
DM: nothing specific, typical ball winner who can help recycle possession. Tackling, Marking, Heading, Positioning, you know it, get the best you can. Kranevitter, Romero, Javi Martinez, Bender brothers, Matic, etc. Defensive ability more important than technical.
AMC: I would suggest you retrain a striker there, someone who is accomplished on AMC, because otherwise really hard to find. Look for Finishing 12+, Composure 12+, Dribling 14+, Acceleration 14+, get some striker like Aguero or Jovetic there. Not a playmaker position, so look for offensive ability first. Gabriel Barbosa, Jovetic, El Shaarawy, James Rodriguez, Aguero, Alexis Sanchez, many players will work.
ST: many combinations possible, but usually I look for small, fast creative striker. Finishing 13+ Composure 13+, Dribbling 12+, Passing 10+, Pace/Acceleration 14+. Luka Jovic, Gabriel Barbosa, Jovetic, Max Kruse, Carlos Tevez, Luciano Vietto.
AML/AMR: If you want further exploit set pieces, look for passing/vision, so you can train PPM looks for a pass rather than attempting to score. First touch 15+, Decisions 14+, so they will quickly pass to CM's to take a shot. Passing 15+ Vision 14+, Technique 14+ so they make accurate pass. Other than that, look you typical attributes for the role you like, winger or IF. Pace and crossing are always great. Players like David Silva, Ozil, Isco, De Bruyne, Cazorla should perform great there.

apvmoreira, mate to be honest use the one that suits your team. For me they both leaked defensively, one with AMC just scored more and therefore I won more games. Please see screeshots I posted, all 2014 fixtures I played with DM, then in 2015 switched to AMC.
Please check my post again #373, I mention specificaly the things I have tweaked. I did not change mentality, but I altered just a bit personal pressing instructions for offensive players.
