Can we have a transfer overview ?
OK here we go:
Thursday 1 OCT 09
Aston Villa 3 - 0 Aalborg BK
(EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP STAGE)
(Agbonlahor[2], Sidwell)
Direct quote from the commentary - 'Sexy football'. Definately worth putting in here haha. Dominated this match from start to finish and fully deserved the 3-0 win. Nice to see that Gabby isn't letting the fact Ronaldo has been brought in hinder him as he scored two fantastic goals. Riquelme also had a very good game, getting a decent assist. Nice to see Brad Friedel looking more confident, too.
Sunday 4 OCT 09
Aston Villa 1 - 0 West Ham
(Riquelme)
Again, another cheeky quote from the commentary: 'Safe hands from Green'. Oh how I laughed, and I almost wish I had a daily update which would have factored what happened last night into the game. In reality, we were lucky to get out of this game with a win; it took a ridiculously good 30-yard free kick from Riquelme to get the win, and our finishing was poor throughout the game. I don’t think I’ll play Carew again after this performance – the worst target man I’ve seen in a while and could well mean that Heskey stays at the club for the future. The result means that we actually leapfrog West Ham and are now 6th in the table, 4 points behind Liverpool and Everton, but we have a game in hand so if we can win that we’ll just be a point behind which is good – staying in the hunt
Saturday 17 OCT 09
Wigan 1 – 2 Aston Villa
(Ronaldo, Agbonlahor)
Re-united with Stiliyan Petrov, which was fun ‘cos it made me feel good – he didn’t play very well and we dominated the midfield fairly easily. He also made an error which gave Gabby our second goal which turned out to be the winner – ah satisfaction I think? It’s always hard to score against Kirkland who is, in my opinion, very underrated overall as a keeper by everyone except the Sports Interactive team, so for me this is a pleasing result which leads us to 5 straight wins overall. Unfortunately though, Riquelme suffered yet another injury which will keep him out for 3-4 weeks which is slightly depressing. Means Verratti will have to step up.
Thursday 22 OCT 09
Villarreal 1 – 2 Aston Villa
(EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP STAGE)
(Milner, Agbonlahor)

Villarreal 1 – 2 Aston Villa
(EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP STAGE)
(Milner, Agbonlahor)
‘Wham-bam thank you ma’am!’ was the commentary as Agbonlahor smashed in our second into the top corner. I had come into this game not expecting anything at all really, so for us to score 2 was something, and for us to get the win was just awesome. Credit HAS to go to Brad Friedel – the one goal he conceded was a really well worked goal and I’m sure if I had put in a worse keeper, we would have lost this 6 or 7-2. Man of the match though goes to Milner who scored a decent goal and sent a perfect through ball for Gabby to smash home. Great game.
Sunday 25 OCT 09
Aston Villa 2 – 1 Portsmouth
(Agbonlahor, Young)
Aston Villa 2 – 1 Portsmouth
(Agbonlahor, Young)
Came into this came with the chance to sneak into 5th in the league if we won by more than two goals. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, but we still nipped ahead of Man Utd thanks to them losing by 3 goals meaning we have a superior goal difference as well as a game in hand. Again David James showed that he is always hard to score a lot against. Things didn’t start well as Sol Campbell scored, but thankfully in-form Gabby grabbed us a goal back and Ashley Young gave us a beautiful winner. The result means we’ve won 7 on the trot, remain unbeaten in all competitions and keeps us with a chance of stealing 4th place within a few weeks as we are 2 points behind Liverpool with a game in hand. Looking good!

Quick Side Note: Having spent something around 2 hours creating a new home kit for Aston Villa (check post #3) and a new away kit, I've updated the kits that we'll be using this season.
Wednesday 28 OCT 09
Aston Villa 3 – 0 Sheffield Wednesday
(CARLING CUP)
(Ronaldo[2], Agbonlahor)
We’re really hitting our stride now. Rested a lot of key players due to congested fixture list, and still managed to walk all over Wednesday. Ronny was brilliant but I’m still impressed with Agbonlahor as he’s still in top, top form as he scored within 3 minutes of having coming on. Result means we’ve set a new club record of 16 games unbeaten and are now in the Quarter Final, which was the board expectation. We’re playing Man City at home in the Quarters, so should be a cracking game when it happens.
October round-up:
We’re sitting pretty in 7th, just like at the end of September. However, we have 2 games in hand this time around and if we win both of them we should grab 4th in the league, potentially 3rd depending on how Everton do in their game in hand as well. We are one of two unbeaten clubs in the league at the moment – the other being Chelsea. I’m really pleased with how this month has gone, actually, and it’s really good to see that we’re churning out some top performances.
Monday 2 NOV 09
Blackburn 1 - 3 Aston Villa
(Young, Verratti[2])
Great game against another in-form side in the shape of Blackburn. Young’s opener was immense and Verratti is really starting to shine – evidenced by his 2 goals. Unfortunately for Young he scored an own goal too so I don’t know how his confidence will fare, but I’m glad that we’re still looking a strong and combined unit. We’ve also pushed ourselves back into 6th in the Prem; once again with a game in hand though, which if we win will push us into 4th and would leave us just 2 points behind leaders Chelsea. I’m very happy with our performance thus far this season and my only hope is that we don’t burn out like Villa did in real life 2 seasons ago.

Thursday 5 NOV 09
Aston Villa 1 – 1 Villarreal
(EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP PHASE)
(Verratti [PEN])
Once again, I’m very pleased with this result. Ensures we remain unbeaten and defied the odds proving we really are becoming a top quality team (in my opinion, anyway). When I saw Verratti step up for the penalty I almost coughed, as I would have expected Gabby or Young or maybe even Milner to take it, so I was very glad when he put the ball in the net. To be honest I almost didn’t mind conceding – we’ve had a lot of fixtures in a short space of time recently so fatigue was bound to set in eventually. The result doesn’t quite seal qualification from the group just yet, but we’re still top of it and it’s a positive sign that we could even make it past the first Knockout round.

Just a quick note I won't be updating this for a week or so as I've got exams this week. However, I'll try and compensate with a nice, big update next time around Thanks to all who are following, by the way.
