Manager Rhys Lawlor was delighted to see his team come from 1-0 down to beat Sheffield United 2-1 in a thrilling play-off final game.
Former Magpie favourite Mark Draper said "I was shocked to see we had won promotion to the Premier League, what Rhys has achieved at this club is unbelievable. The board should do all they can to make Rhys stay."
Rhys then said in an interview with BBC "The players and board have been terrific this season, from when the season started i wanted the players to keep down a mid-table finish, but they pushed on further and as we got results we started to believe in ourselves more. No-one could of expected us to be in the Premier League after 3 years and 3 promotions. Its nice to have on your CV isn't it! But ever since ive been here the chairman (Peter Trembling) has backed me 100%. Me, Peter and Sven all thought we could be in the Premier League in 5 seasons. Now we have done it in 3. Its just incredible, i can't praise the players anymore than i have done. We now have to build a squad that is capable of performing in the Premier League, we have to give these players a chance as they got us here. But i know where we need to strengthen and we will be doing that in pre-season."
