I think if you have the right players for a 4-5-1 formation, meaning good Wingers and offensive CMs I think this tactic could work very well but you might still get problems against fairly good team that play very defensively. I just played with Barca against Real and the game ended in a 1-1 draw while I still had a major advantage during the game and had 6 clear cut chances which unfortunately my players didn't convert. But I was very happy with the way we dominated the game.
I plan to go with a 3 striker formation against weaker teams and a one striker formation against better teams so only the 3 attackers in my team need to adjust. Also I will need players who can play as striker and winger.
