The 'greatest' comeback I have witnessed personally is Liverpool against Milan. It is unrivalled because they won the greatest prize in club football as a result, not just a few points in the league.

I have a few comebacks which meant a lot to me.

1. Arsenal 2 - 3 Tottenham (November 2010)
Losing 2 - 0, and considered dead and buried by most... 'another easy 3 points against Spurs at home'. Then, combining belief from our players/fans and a shocking attitude from Arsenal, we manage to pull 3 goals back and claim a first away victory against our fiercest rivals in a very long time. You could see how much it meant to all of the lads with the celebration, and the noise in the away end was absolutely monstrous. Epic game, and an even better result.

2. Arsenal 4 - 4 Tottenham (October 2008)
We take an early lead and you just know we're going to have to score at least another goal to consider ourselves safe. Low and behold, Arsenal hit back 3 times and the Spurs faithful are sitting in collective sadness, head in their hands. The ever-reliable Darren Bent then offers us a lifeline shortly after Arsenal's 3rd and we begin to believe once again, before RVP puts the tie to bed a minute later... or does he? Those last 2 goals were amazingly special, in one of the most memorable matches against the rivals in recent history. Arsenal were stunned and the Yids were booming.

3. Tottenham 4 - 4 Aston Villa (October 2007)
Absolutely brilliant comeback. We score first, as we always seem to, and then Villa hit us hard with 4 goals consecutively without reply. Some teams may have given up at this point, especially after they score first after half-time, but no... we lay siege to the Villa half of the field for the remaining 30 minutes of the game and get our reward. Martin Jol was sacked not long after this match if I recall, but we love the man for nights like this.

Incidentally, Younes Kaboul scored the final goal in match 1 and 3. :)

tl;dr? Tottenham are amazing.

I would have to say Liverpool's, the intensity and importance of the match swings it for me.

One of the best has got to be a few season ago, with Tottenham leading 3-0 at home at half-time in the FA Cup. City go on to score 4 and win the tie, with Jonathan Macken scoring a last minute header :)

I remember that match, was a great comeback. Lol at comparing that city team to the team now :D
this, no doubts about it. (a little biased cosidering im a city fan though!)

the leeds v preston match springs to mind too

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/9031722.stm

leeds were 4-1 up and preston managed to come back and win 6-4.

please don't remind me of that match :'(

But the 2005 Istanbul comeback, nothing comes close to it

If they won, and they could have, it would be the best! (probably)

The two greatest comebacks have to be Man Utd in 99 and Liverpool in Istanbul. Scoring 2 goals in the last few minutes is hard enough without adding the pressure of a champions league final and the way Liverpool fought back from 3-0 down against Milan was amazing, the commitment shown to comeback was suburb and no surprise that Gerrard was one of the main players to inspire Liverpool to do so.

What a game it was, diaby looked like he was going to kill barton lol (wish he had :p )

Has anyone forgot about Motherwell being 6-2 down to Hibs and bringing it back to 6-6??

Has anyone forgot about Motherwell being 6-2 down to Hibs and bringing it back to 6-6??

I was watching Sky Sports News at the time, was practically as entertaining as actually watching the game.

I have to say this is one of the greatest comeback ever in the BPL! 4-0 down with 40 mins to go and we scored 4. Arsenal are a quality team and even though with 10 men, they should have defend their lead better. I wonder how they will face Barca later. Hmm.

Still to score 4 goals, in 40 minutes against Arsenal, when 4-0 down, ten men or not, that is ******* special.

Try scoring 3 in 6 minutes as an underdog team since the knockout stages.

Liverpool's comeback against AC Milan is the obvious choice as the greatest comeback in modern day football.

The greatest comeback I've witnessed is the Motherwell 6 Hibs 6 game, where Motherwell came from 6-2 behind to draw 6-6 and it could've easily been 7-6 if it wasn't for the penalty save.
Probably the most exciting game I've ever seen.

1. It all began in 88th minute !

This is one of the best for sure. When when you consider the difference in the quality of both teams. (No disrespect to Newcastle)

My Favourite,
Manchester United 2 -1 Bayern Munich

What a game that was. We fluffed few chances and they hit the bar twice. Amazing season would have ended in tears. It was the day Sir Matt Busby would have celebrated his 90th Birthday and some of our performances were just inspiring, like FA cup semi final, Juventus semi final.
90 mins and 3 mins added time.
"Can Manchester United score, they always score"
And it was Teddy and Ole who came as second half subs, won it for us. That was just amazing.

Juverntus 3-2 Manchester United.

This was one of the best Keano's performance. Drew 1-1 at OT and were 2-0 down after 11 mins. Then our come back was well and truely on. First it was "Roy keane with captain's goal" then Yorke headed to equalise. Then Cole took on 2 defenders and was fouled by GK, but Yorke followed it up and finshed it. 3-2 "Full speed ahead Barcelona". Will never forget those words.

"It was the most emphatic display of selflessness I have seen on a football field. Pounding over every blade of grass, competing if he would rather die of exhaustion than lose, he inspired all around him. I felt it was an honour to be associated with such a player."
Sir Alex Ferguson on Keane's performance against Juventus in 1999
