End of season review and the future

"Nicholas I see Sebastien fetched you as I requested." Chuckled Jonas.

"Yes he said that we should review the season and how I went as a manager? Well am I getting the sack?"

Jonas looked at Sebastien and chuckled before replying. "Very funny Nicholas, quite the contray. The board and I have been quite content with your performance. The signings you brought in were satisfactory and the team's performance were of the same level. Next season we will expect more from you though since now that you've got the taste, it should be a lot easier."

Nicholas felt a sense of relief. He wasn't going to get the ****** sack! He had survived his first season, well half season, in charge as a football manager.
"Very well then. I feel the same. Next season we will kick on and with a few signings, we should challenege for the title."

"That's the spirit!" Shouted Jonas. "I will see you then sometime during the week before the players go on holiday. Oh and I have distributed the squad bonus of $50,000 for their performance this season in the league. Make sure the players know that when you have your meeting on Monday."

"I will, thank you Jonas." Jonas exited the room leaving just Nicholas and Sebastien.

"So Sebastien, was it a good season?"

"It was okay. When you took over that honeymoon form was brilliant and we at one stage were only 5 points from first place, but that period cooled off and a few bad defeats away put the team into a bit of a pit. One good point this season was Kjelseth's improvement, we should look at giving him a new contract. He salvaged two draws for us this season when we were all but lost."

"You should negotiate a new contract Sebastien. I don't know how much longer I will be here." Nicholas could tell that his assistant wasn't too happy with what he had just said.

"Look Nicholas, I think maybe one more season here would do you a world of good. I know we talked a few weeks ago, but one more year, challenge for the title and maybe get promotion, and who knows. The club might turn professional and we could all start getting rich!" Both Sebastien and Nicholas laughed at his final comment.

"I'll have a think about it Sebastien. The off season is long here in Norway. It's mid October and the players won't be back until the 2nd of Febuary, and even then that's 9 weeks away before the season kicks off. I just don't want to waste 5 to 6 months doing nothing when I could be managing a team during their season. When I make my decision, you'll be the first one I let know."

Sebastien nodded in agreement before getting up to leave. "Well let me know. I'll see you on Monday for the team meeting." Sebastien left the room leaving Nicholas and his thoughts.

Should he go? He would give it a few weeks before making any sort of decision.

Team meeting

The players filtered in on a cold morning in Harstad. After the last few arrived into the meeting room, Nicholas started the meeting.

"Good morning lads. It's ****** freezing isn't it!" The team forced a chuckle before Nicholas continued.

"I just want to say that it's been a long season and I am very proud of every single one of you in how hard you played and trained. You all welcomed me in and made my first spell as a manager a breeze."

"You're a good manager boss and it was a pleasure to work under you." Shouted Jorgensen from the back. The rest of the team nodded in agreement which gave Nicholas more confidence.

"Well with that being said I guess it's time to think about next season. I want you to all enjoy your break, you've earned it. However a few rules, don't gain more than 4 kgs by now and when you do. Otherwise you'll be doing hill runs for all of preseason!"
The team laughed before pointing a few fingers at some previous players who had come back overweight in the previous seasons.

"Okay, but down to business. Next season I want you all coming back with the mentality that we are going to challenge for the title. I want to win that bad boy and I believe we can."

The room went silent. Some of the boys were taken back before a few decided to voice their concerns.
"Gaffer, I think we shouldn't have that expectation. The pressure might get to us."

"I believe in you lads and that's not the reaction I'm after. Have some belief."
12f035484b.jpg

A few members of the team shared Nicholas' optimism.
"We can win promotion boys! Let's focus!"

The room was filled with mixed emotions and as the meeting concluded, Nicholas said goodbye to each player individually. One player he pulled aside was Kjelseth.

"Hey boss thanks for the wonderful season. It was great working with you."

"You too mate. Look, Sebastien and I have talked. We will be negotiating a new contract with you before you get back next season. You worked your *** off and you've earned it."

Kjelseth was taken back and shocked.
"Boss...what can I say.....thank you. That would meant the world to me!"

Nicholas finished shaking his hand before sending him on his way.

Team statistics
As requested by the board, they wanted to see a detailed analysis of the team in a formal report.

Top goalscorer.

11. Anders Jørgensen

Anders didn't have the season he wanted and could of easily had 10+ goals. He was however one of our most consistent players and 6 goals in 13 appearances with one assist, isn't too bad of a return. He has stated he will work even harder next year to at the minimum double his return.
39ef337d30.jpg

2ac707e93b.jpg

Most assists

13. Jørgen Bakke

With 5 league assists and 6 overall, Bakke was our joint top assist(er). He didn't have the best season but still managed to find key passes and create moments even when he was off his game.
52c2b33a8d.jpg

2c4fdbf955.jpg

6. Stian Johnsen
5 league assists with a total of 6 and the same as Bakke. Although more consistent, S.Johnsen didn't set the world a light. His mid season form was much better than his late season were he didn't do all too much.
181e191381.jpg

2dfbd052b0.jpg

Most improved
14. Magnus Kjelseth
Kjelseth shocked the staff and even shocked himself with his mid-late season form. During our bad spell he was by far leaps and bounds above everyone else. Due to his late season heroics, Kjelseth has earned himself a new contract come next season. His recent form over the last 5 games was at a rating of 7.38.

b80af6a53a.jpg

Key player
3. Marcus Ursin Ingebrigtsen
Considering he costs the club nothing as he is on an amateur contract, 4 goals as a center back is amazing. Most consistent player over the season with his average rating as well. He is another player that has earned himself a new contract.

Final position

05be5205b9.jpg

After the season, the team finished in 5th place, 14 points off first. This years finish was an improvement on the previous year of 10th. After being predicted by the media to finish dead last, the team has performed extremely well to get here.

Additional comments
One worrying statistic however was the fact the team did not keep a clean sheet all season and this will be addressed next season.
One highlight was that the team managed to score in every league match this season, proving to always put up a fight.

Thanks for the comments guys. I might give myself a day or two as I simulate a few months. Going to be on the prowl for other jobs/etc. Laurent is still yet to decide if he is leaving or not!
Only time will tell.

Stepping down

Official press release

Harstad boss resigns
harstad_il.gif

It has been confirmed that as of today, Nicholas Laurent has stepped down as the manager for Harstad IL.

Nicholas Laurent said in an interview later today that the club and he had come to a mutual decision for him to step-down as manager at Harstad. Club chairman Jonas Aasli stated that this was a mutual decision and had nothing to do with the performance in the league.

"We were quite happy for Nicholas to stay on as manager, however he felt it was the right time to step-down and we would like to thank him for all he has done at the club."

Nicholas Laurent also said today that he would like to thank the club for allowing him to get his foot in the door as a manager.

"My time here has been exciting and although it was only a short spell as a manager, I have learned valuable skills that I will take on throughout the rest of my career. I would like to thank the players, staff and the fans for welcoming me in as well as you did and for giving me this opportunity to manage a club like Harstad. I would love to come back here in the future and I hope that Harstad will be able to fulfill its destiny."

Laurent signs for Eastleigh F.C

The Eastleigh F.C board can confirm that Nicholas Laurent will be joining the club on a 7 month contract until July 2015. Nicholas will take charge of the club effective immediately and will be in charge of the senior team in their his first match on Saturday the 13th against Braintree in the FA Trophy first round.
Chairman
Stewart Donald had this to say about the new manager.

"Nicholas joins us from the Norweigen Second division after a good recommendation from his previous employer, Harstad. We welcome the Australian to our team and hope that he thrives within our professional setup. He will have the full backing of me and the board as he takes our club to the next level."

Nicholas Laurent released this statement after being announced the manager.
"I would like to thank Chairman Stewart Donald for seeing something in me that other clubs didn't. I hope that I can repay the faith show in me and take Eastleigh to the next level."

Good stuff Nommy. You don't let the grass grow under your feet do you!

New surroundings

Nicholas couldn't quite believe it after he hoped off the bus at the Silverlake Stadium. He had to sell his car in Norway to afford the flight to England but it was his dream come true. Manager of an English team, not only that but a professional team. This was certainly a huge leap from Harstad. On the way over he had been flicking through the team report that player/assistant manager Craig McAllister had compiled for him.

Confidential Club & Team Report
Compiled by Craig McAllister
Club overview
Eastleigh F.C are a fully professional club operating in the Conference National league, England's 5th tier of football. Eastleigh made the decision to turn fully professional after a successful season last year saw the club finish first in the Conference South and were subsequently promoted. The board hope this decision will see the club promoted into the English leagues within the next few years.

Current league position
ed756718a5.jpg

The team currently sit in 12th place, however we are only six points off the first relegation spot. The club will be hoping that you are able to achieve a mid table finish and avoid relegation in our first season in the Conference Premier/National.

Club finances
9bc02d6872.jpg
Financially the club isn't in the best position however this is mainly due to the large investment to the squad in terms of player tranfers and recent wage rises. You have been allocated a transfer budget of 48.7k pounds. The club however is spending 25k on wages a week when only 23k has been allocated. Adjustments will have to be made to subsidies this.

With projected loses to be high this season, the club expect a decent performance in the league to ensure they are not relegated. Relegation would put the club under into a major financial crisis.

With all this being said, I would rate the club's financial status as okay.

Team overview
Squad depth for the club is good, however there is a major concern right now as both first and second choice goalkeepers are out with long term injuries leaving youth goalkeepers having the replace them.

First team squad
5268c446a6.jpg

Key player

b4c665f13e.jpg

James Constable when played in his preferred position up front, is the club's best player. He has been in decent form this season scoring 12 goals this campaign at a decent average rating of 7.21.

Staff overview
57c660cec1.jpg
I would recommend signing an additional two coaches to help with team training duties as of now there is only myself, Chris Todd and yourself to take care of these. I'd recommend signing a specialist goalkeeping coach and a fitness coach to help improve the teams performance. This would help spread the workload between us to help benefit the players. I will leave this up to you to talk to the board to request to bring in additional staff members.

Scouting
The club only have one scout as of now. Josh Webber has been given instructions by the board to only scout players within the UK and Ireland due to financial restrictions. In the future I would recommend asking the board to expand our scouting network to bring in further talent.

Facilities
954da8f480.jpg
The club only has basic facilities and if we were to achieve promotion these issues would need to be addressed. The good thing is that the club don't pay any rent on the stadium as we own it in full.

END OF REPORT
Nicholas put the report back in his bag as he walked towards the main reception. What was it going to be like? There was only a few days between now and the first match he would take charge of and he wanted to make a good impression among the team.

He was greeted by player/assistant manager Craig McAllister.

"Nicholas, nice to meet you! I'm Craig. Did you get my report?"

The pair shook hands.

"Nice to meet you Craig and yes I did. It was extremely detailed, thank you for that."

"I do pride myself on my attention to detail. Here follow me, the lads are just about to head out to training. We have two sessions today so I'll get you to sit out of the first one so you can have a look around and then after that, you can take charge of the second session."

Craig led Nicholas into the teams dressing room where the players were just about to head out onto the pitch to begin training for the day.

"Lads sit down for a minute. I want to introduce the new gaffer. Nicholas Laurent."

The team gave a half-hearted round of applause before Nicholas thanked them before speaking.

"Thank you. As Craig just said, I'm Nicholas Laurent. Now I know many of you might not of heard of me before, however I am positive after consulting with Craig we will be able to achieve a mid table finish this season."

The team seemed happy with the statement and captain Dean Beckwith spoke back.

"I think I speak on behalf of all the lads that we are actually quite happy to work with a relatively unknown manager and hope you can bring some fresh ideas to the table! We reckon we can finish mid table as well so it is good you share our optimism." The rest of the players nodded in agreement.

"Well that's good to hear and exactly what I was after. Now Craig is going to take care of the first session today. I'll be back for the second session after I've had a look around at the facilities. I'll see you all after lunch."

The team headed out before Craig and Nicholas exchanged handshakes once more leaving Nicholas on his own.

He looked around the old change room. God it needed a make over but there were more important things at hand. Nicholas decided to walk back into the main foyer before the receptionist showed him to his office. He sat down behind his desk before pulling out the team report that Craig had compiled for him. It was time to start thinking about some tactics and the next match at hand.

First game in charge

English FA Trophy South 1st Round

Eastleigh v Braintree

Match preview

Manager Nicholas Laurent will take charge of his side in the first round of the FA Trophy in a clash they would be expected to win. Eastleigh have been hit hard with injuries the past couple of weeks losing both first and second choice goalkeepers to long term injuries. It is expected that youth keeper Josh Helm will make his senior debut for the club.

Starting lineup
14a7dd9683.jpg

Eastleigh's manager Nicholas Laurent has opted for a 4-4-2 diamond narrow shape for his team due to the lack of first team wingers. He is hoping that promoted U21 goalkeeper Josh Helm will be able to do the business for his team.

Match report

First Half

In the 10th minute, midfielder Craig Stanley was injured. He was replaced by Lucas Dawson.

In the 23rd minute, the hosts found themselves in the lead after Bloomfield spread the ball wide to the marauding fullback Spence who drilled in the cross to see Jack Midson tap home from close range. That is his 7th of the season. It was a good strong run by Midson to get into the box to tap home.

Halftime
Nicholas got the team into the shed after a relatively good first half performance. The team were told that they had played well and to keep the performance up into the second half.

Reason was replaced by Evans due to fatigue.

Second half

In the 49th minute Braintree's corner was failed to be dealt with by the defence which saw striker S.Marks sure to score, however an amazing close range save by U21 goalkeeper Helm kept the score at 1-0 before Malaga cleared their lines.

That was all to be undone when a minute later saw the visitors get a freekick which was failed to be dealt with. Helm made another amazing close range save but was left stranded when the save deflected into the path of the onrushing Sparkes who tapped home. Helm could do nothing about it and would be asking questions of his defence after that.

In the 70th minute that would all change when Constable linked up with Midson when he slided in a delicate ball between the lines which saw Midson one on one who coolly slotted home to regain the lead.

In the 80th minute, after Eastleigh gave the ball away cheaply, Akinola equalized for the visitors after his run went unnoticed behind the defence.

Post game
Nicholas got the lads in the shed. It wasn't the best performance but he wanted to get off on a positive note with the players and opted not to blast them for their poor passing and lack of retaining the ball despite his instructions to hold onto it.

"Boys unlucky today. Few things we need to work on midweek but at least we didn't lose."

The mood in the team remained positive reassuring Nicholas he had made the right decision.

Full-time score
Eastleigh 2 - 2 Braintree
Midson (23,70), Sparkes(50), Akinola(80)

Nicholas was in his office when McAllister approached him.
"Hey Gaffer, I've got some news on Stanley for you."

"Brilliant, how long?"

"Well he has done his hip and the initial prognosis is..." MCallister took a big gulp.
"6-7months."

"WHAT THE F#$K!@# ARE YOU FU$%K%G KIDDING ME? THAT HAS TO BE A FU$%K%G JOKE! THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME. LOSING A KEY PLAYER IN MY ****** FIRST GAME IN CHARGE!" Nicholas was furious, if you couldn't tell by his words.

"Well there are a few options that might make you....well...a bit more happy. I hope."

"What the f%$k could make me happy right now?"

"His treatment options gaffer.
The doctor informed me we have three options.

1) Send him to a specialist. It'll cost us 500quid but he should only be out for 3months.

2) Give him an injection with a needle the size of a horse's......you know. He should play the in the replay against Braintree, but if he pulls up he could be up for nearly 9months.

3) And lastly, let the creepy physio Andy Cook have his way. That would probably be the initial prognosis of 6-7months."

Nicholas just starred at him.

"Gaffer? You okay? Nicholas? Laurent? you there?"

"Send him to the ****** specialist. I can't believe this s%$t."

"Right, do you want me to tell the board or you?"

Nicholas just said nothing.

"I'll take that as me to tell them. Well then....I guess I'll be going now..." McAllister slowly backed out of the room like a Mr.Bean skit before leaving Nicholas alone.

"I can't believe that. Looks like I'll be very busy in the transfer window looking for a backup keeper and a few midfielders." Nicholas muttered to himself. Nicholas stood up from his chair before gathering his things before walking to the bus stop.

It had been a long day and the quicker he got back to his hotel room the better. He had more important things to worry about, like what takeaway should he have this evening and the fact that he should probably look for an apartment would also be of some benefit to him. Well....the receptionist at the hotel was pretty cute AND did he mention that they had free pay TV which had Game of Thrones on it?!?

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Haha yea, what can you do though. I was more shocked when I first went to look at the team tactics and they had Constable in as goalie! Almost feel off my chair. Putting your leading goalscorer in goals, lol.

He might start watching some House of Cards as well. Quality TV shows.

Julian Monk signs for Eastleigh
c4bd6fc347.jpg

Julian Monk joins the Eastleigh staff as a dedicated fitness coach. Manager Nicholas Laurent felt the team needed an additional staff member to help reduce the workload from his current staffing team. Laurent also had goalkeeping coach Joe Corrigan lined up however this deal was cancelled by the board as they felt they had enough staff to handle the current workload.

Despite Laurent trying to reason with the board, they simply said they don't have the funds to have a specialized goalkeeping coach and that he would have to make do with what he has got. Don't worry though, Chris Todd, player/coach will be teaching the lads how to keep.

Julian Monk will join the team on a short term contract with the option to renew it upon Manager Nicholas Laurent's review. Monk had previously had a spell with Liverpool.

Braintree v Eastleigh

Match preview

Manager Nicholas Laurent will take visit Cressing Road in the FA Trophy South First round replay. The two teams met previously last weekend when neither side could find the decisive goal in what was a highly entertaining 2-2 draw. Let's hope for another highly entertaining game again.
Starting lineup
210b47b886.jpg

There has been two changes to the side that drew 2-2 at home to Braintree in the last match. Dawson replaces the injured C.Stanley whilst defender Turley replaces Malaga who has been dropped to the bench. Young goalkeeper Helm remains in the side due after some heroics in their previous outing. Paul Reid will take the captains armband today.

Match Report

First Half

In the 9th minute, Reason found Constable in space on the ride side of the pitch before Constable cut the ball back to Dawson who was unmarked on the edge of the box. Reason had continued his run and was slid in by Reason to give the visitors the lead.

The visitors then went into dreamland when from the kickoff, Partington disposed Akinola. He then played a good ball over the top to find Constable running in on goal who then squared it back to Midson to tap home.

Things went sour for the visitors when in the 35th minute, midfielder Bloomfield had to be replaced due to injury. You can bet this didn't go down too well with Laurent. 31 year old Brian Howard took his place in the midfield.

Things got worse when in the 38th minute, Turley mistimed his jump when a ball over the top went sailing over his head. Akinfola then ran in on goal where keeper Helm did well to show him the near post, but it was well finished by Akinola from a tight angle.

Half-time
Braintree 1 - 2 Eastleigh
Reason(9), Midson(10), Akinola(38)

Second half

In the 52nd minute, Turley made up for his earlier error when after a brilliantly timed tackle on Akinola on the half-way line. He played a ball over the top to find Constable in on goal who curled into the top left corner. On later review, Constable looked slightly offside, not that Laurent cared.

In the 74th minute, the hosts were thrown a lifeline when Jones' clumsy challenge brought down Isaac just inside the box. Sean Marks stepped up to the spot and slammed home. Helm dived the right way but the ball was just out of his reach.

The hosts had a chance to equalise when in the 85th minute, Turley once again mistimed his header which saw Akinola bearing down on goal. This time Helm came out on top with a well-timed save to retain the lead. Laurent had seen enough and replaced Turley with Malaga after the ball went out of play. From the resulting corner, Helm once again made a heroic save to give the visitors the slim advantage.

Post Match
After another fairly entertaining match, Laurent got the team in the shed and told them that they need to make sure they didn't get complacent for the next match. He congratulated the team on the win.

Full-time score

Braintree 2 - 3 Eastleigh
Reason(9), Midson(10),
Akinola(38), Constable(52), Marks(74).

As Nicholas approached the busstop, his phone began to rang. It was chairman Stewart Donald.

"Stewart, how are you going mate?"

"Good, good win today. Look I'm calling just to let you know that because of the win, we've put another 5k in the kitty for you. Consider it Christmas come early."

"Thanks Stewart. I'll make sure it goes to good use. How about another coach?"

Stewart Donald laughed "Steady up Cowboy! We'll just wait and see shall we? Have a good evening."
*hangs up*

Nicholas was also relieved to receive the text from his assistant letting him know that Bloomfield had just picked up a knock and would be available for the weekend.

AFC Telford v Eastleigh

Match Preview
Eastleigh travel to out of sorts Telford who have lost 4 consecutive games in their battle for relegation. AFC Telford sit in 23rd place on 20 points, 10points from safety. There is still a long way to go this season, but if their recent form is anything to go by many wouldn't bet against them going down.
Eastleigh on the other hand have been in decent form, gaining 7 points in their last 4 league games.

Starting lineup
04828d2ced.jpg

Malaga replaces Turley in the back 4. Left back M.Green has been called up to sit on the bench for this fixture. Midfielder Atiku has been put into the lineup replacing Reason while Midson has been dropped to the bench in favour of Burton.

Match report

In the 33rd minute, a great cross in by Cameron saw Farrell latch onto the end of it to give the hosts the equalizer they had been pressing for.

Half time
Nicholas told the lads to keep going and that they can still win this game easily.

Second half

In the 64th minute, Constable had a goal ruled out for offside and that was all the action in the second half.

Post game

Nicholas told the lads that they had been unlucky and that they deserved the win. The team felt the same way.

Round 26

Eastleigh v Woking

Match preview

16th placed Woking travel to 12th placed Eastleigh with only 2 points separating the two teams. Eastleigh currently lie in 12th place and will be hoping for all three points after a disappointing draw last time out. Woking will be without key midfielder Mark Ricketts as he is doubtful as he recovers from his broken ribs.

Starting lineup
b4d78fa5ad.jpg

Reason is back in the side with Atiku dropped from the team altogether. Turley makes his way back into the starting lineup as Malaga is rested for today's game. Midson always makes his way to the lineup with Burton on the bench. Part time player and coach, C.Todd makes his way to the bench and will be hoping for his 6th appearance this season.
A busy schedule ahead has forced Nicholas Laurent to rotate his squad as he attempts to keep his team fighting fit.

Match Report
First Half

In the third minute, the hosts took the lead when Bloomfield's shot from a corner was parried by Woking's keeper back out into play. Constable was on his toes and from 3 yards out, he wasn't going to miss. That was his 15th of the season as he continues his good run of form.

In the 35th minute, a well worked team goal saw the hosts double their lead when Reason played the ball into Constable who let the ball roll in-between his legs to see Midson round the keeper. It was a great bit of communication by the front two as they enjoy their time playing together. With that goal Midson hits double figures for the season bringing his total to 10.

It would only get better for the hosts when in the 43rd minute, just before halftime. A well worked corner found its way to Midson who volleyed home from 12 yards.

Woking managed to claw one back just before halftime when Rendell let lose with an absolute ripper from 20 yards. The curling effort found its way into the top right corner. Pick that one out!

Half-time
Eastleigh 3 -
1 Woking
Constable(3), Midson(35,43), Rendell(44).

Nicholas told the lads that he was annoyed that they had conceded just before the break, and told them there was still another half to play. Most of the lads seemed to screw their heads back on and to regain their focus. Midson seemed a little confused by the comments though.

Second half
Jai Reason had to be substituted in the 46th minute, right after kickoff with a knock. He was replaced by Evans.

Nothing else of significance accord in the second half.

Post game
Nicholas got the lads in the shed and told them that he was relatively pleased with the result, but annoyed they couldn't keep a clean sheet. He will be hoping they can do so in their next outing.

Full time
Eastleigh 3 - 1 Woking
Constable(3), Midson(35,43), Rendell(44).

POTM
Midson, 8.8 rating with 2 goals.

Injury Crisis continues
e3c0e09b1c.jpg

24 year old Jai Reason will be out of action for up to three weeks when in the 46th minute of Eastleigh's encounter against Woking he damaged his elbow. Manager Nicholas Laurent said that "we already have multiple injuries and this is just icing on the cake. Exactly what we wanted." It can be said that Laurent's 'enthusiasm' shows that Reason will be significantly missed in the Eastleigh midfield. Reason joins a growing list at the Eastleigh camp.

Round 27
46b73a92e8.png

Braintree v Eastleigh

Match preview
Eastleigh play Braintree for the third time this month, this time in the league. Eastleigh got the better of Braintree in their First Round FA Trophy replay winning 2-3 away from home. Braintree in their last match were hammered 4-0 by Dartford and will be looking to get out of a bad run of form. There is apparently squad disharmony amongst the Eastleigh ranks as midfielder Bloomfield has token over the captains armband from veteran center back, Beckwith.
Starting lineup
d505820980.jpg

Manager Nicholas Laurent has rotated his squad as they go up against Braintree. Atiku comes in to the starting line up along with Evans, Burton and Malaga. Bloomfield will be playing a deeper role to accommodate for Partington who is being rested this match.

Match Report
First Half

The hosts went a goal up in the 21st minute when James Mulley headed home from close range off a corner.

In the 32nd minute, Deon Burton had to be stretchered off. The extent of his injury was unknown at the current time but it looked like he had tweaked his hamstring. He was replaced by inform striker Midson.
Exactly 41 seconds after being substituted on, the most bizzare thing happened when striker Midson. Braintree played the ball back to their keeper and as he was clearing the ball, Midson full of energy closed him down and saw the ball fly into the goal off his back. It was literally a dead replica of Gareth Bale's goal in 2013 against Wigan (minus the karate kick part). Quite funny, Laurent especially saw the funny side as his team somehow equalized against the run of play.

A few minutes later, Jones freekick from 25 yards out was parried straight into the path of Constable who tapped home from close range. The keeper spilled the ball and within the span of 5 minutes had made to blunders which saw his team down a goal before the break.

Half-time
Braintree 1 - 2
Eastleigh

Nicholas told the lads that things were going okay, however he knew they were capable of more. Most of the team acknowledged that they needed to kick on in order to finish the job.

Second half
The hosts equalised in the 57th minute after a ball across the defence was well finished by Maybanks at the back post. Laurent wasn't pleased with his defence and made changes per required to hopefully get his team to kick on.

It was then all over red rover in the 89th minute when Maybanks completed the comeback finishing from a tight angle.

Post game
Nicholas was furious. His team had thrown away an easy three points and he hammered into the lads. "That is ****** unacceptable lads. We should of won that match. I am very annoyed and disappointed right now." The team seemed to understand Laurent's frustration and agreed with him.

Full time
Braintree 3 - 2 Eastleigh
Mulley(21), Midson(32), Constable(36), Maybanks(57, 90).

POTM
Maybanks, 8.7 rating with 2 goals.

As Nicholas walked to the bus-stop, his phone began to rang. It was the chairman.
"I better answer it....I guess."

"Stewart, how are you?"

"I'm well. Unfortunate loss today."

"Yea we didn't play well at all if I'm honest. Deserved to lose."

"That is true. I have some bad news for you. Our debt is growing...fast. I'm not sure how much money you will be able to spend in this transfer window. I might have to cut funds."

"What do you mean cut funds? The transfer window begins in two days and we have ****** half the squad out on injury. I'm sorry Stewart but if I am to have any chance of a good season I'm going to need to cash."

"I understand Laurent, but you might have to look into the youth setup we have here."

"The youth setup, if I'm honest, is sh%t Stewart. I asked you guys to improve the facilities but you declined."

"I don't appreciate the tone Nicholas. I understand you're frustrated, but we are going to have to make do with what we've got. We're expected to lose 1.5million this season so unless we cut funds and sell some assets, things could go south...fast."

"Alright...I'll do my best, but I don't know if I want to be apart of a sinking ship. If there is any hint of this club going bust or entering administration, I'm sorry but I will have to step-down as manager. It would only hinder my career."

There was silence for a moment. Obviously Stewart didn't quite like the reality check he had just received from Laurent.

"Very well Mr.Laurent. I can assure you that the club won't be going 'south' any time soon. Don't jump to conclusions. This concludes this call."

*hangs up*

Brilliant. Just what Nicholas wanted to hear. Nicholas was told the clubs' finances were okay when he joined but in truth he just jumped onto a sinking ship. If things don't change, it looks like Laurent could find himself unemployed sooner than he had planned.

Transfer Window...Open!

Clubs all across Europe eagerly awaited for the clocks to tick past midnight for the 2015 January transfer window to commence. Eastleigh are reported to be actively trying to sell 31 year old defender Dean Beckwith. Beckwith has fallen down the peeking order after having his captaincy removed by Laurent. It is also believed that Laurent will listen to any offers for 38 year old veteran striker Deon Burton, as he looks to clear out on what is an ageing squad.

There are reports however that Eastleigh is in economic turmoil and that funds from the transfer budget have been slashed significantly. Laurent might be forced to sell key players in order for the club not to enter administration.

Laurent paced the hallway. He had to leave in about 30minutes if he was to get to Woking in time for their next match, but he was frustrated. A lot of players contracts were coming to their end, but with the clubs economic situation, he was left with very little room to negotiate. The wage budget had been slashed and when he was able to offer a maximum wage of 1300$ before he arrived had dropped to just half of that in the matter of a few weeks. If they were going to have any chance of making a bid for promotion, he was going to have to make sure that the current crop of players he had were dedicated, and in it for footballing reasons.

Woking vs Eastleigh

Match preview
Eastleigh face Woking for the second time in just two weeks as a fixture pileup hits the Conference National. Eastleigh got the better of the hosts in their last encounter after a first half rout saw them secure a 3-1 victory. Key striker James Constable will be hoping to continue his rich run of form scoring 15 goals in 22 appearances for the club this campaign. Both teams have a numerous amount of injuries as they lead the league with 5 each, two more than the next close competitor.

Starting lineup
1307638533.jpg

Turley is on in-place of Malaga who is rested this match whilst Atiku has been dropped to the bench seeing Howard into the lineup. Partington returns to the team allowing Bloomfield to play in his preferred more central position. Fans will be happy to see C.Cropper, who has been out with injury, return to the bench as second choice goalkeeper. A surprise to most fans will be ex-captain D.Beckwith sneaking in. Many would of thought his time was up at the club. Midson also returns to the starting 11.

Match Report

First half
Scott Rendell opened the scoring for the hosts in the 16th minute after a poor defensive clearance saw him tap home infront of an open goal.

In the 41st minute though, Constable got onto the end of a long ball over the top from Reid which saw him equalize right before halftime.

Half Time
Woking 1 - 1 Easleigh
Rendell(16), Constable(41)
Nicholas told the lads that they were still in this and that all it would take it one more goal and they could bag all three points.

Second Half
Nothing of significance happened in a fairly lackluster second half.

Post Game
After a drab of a second half, Nicholas was pleased with the showing. The team came close on a few occasions but just lacked that killer blow. "Unlucky lads, I'm pretty happy with how we played in the second half. There were a lot of positives to take from that game."
The team nodded in agreement as the mood changed slightly.

Final Score
Woking 1 - 1 Easleigh
Rendell(16), Constable(41)

POTM
Jack McNerney, rating of 7.2 for Woking.

Transfer update
32a2c4151d.jpg

Lennox had been recommended to Nicholas by his chief scout and considering the lack of goalkeepers in his senior team due to injury, he thought it would be wise to bring in a player that had experience with bigger clubs. Considering he will cost the club nothing in wages, it could be a bargain. Oh and did he mention he's Aussie as well?!?

Eastleigh vs Bristol Rovers

Match Preview
Bristol Rovers travel to the Silverlake Stadium in this FA Trophy 2nd Round clash. Eastleigh got a surprised 10 days off between their last fixture due to their league fixture against Altrincham being postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Bristol have been in good form winning their last two games and will be hoping they can continue that run of form here today.

Starting lineup
bdc0280f53.jpg

Young keeper Helm has been left out of the team today with new loanee Lennox set to make his senior debut for the club after playing in the reserves team 2-2 draw mid-week. Malaga makes his way back to the bench with Atiku and Midson both being included in the starting 11 today. N.Luscombe has been called up from the reserves due to a lack of fully fit midfielders at the club.

Match Report

First half
In the 13th minute Eastleigh opened the scoring after Jones' thunderous volley could only be palmed by Bristol's keeper into the path of the onrushing Constable. Simple finish, but what a hit by Jones!

Half Time
Eastleigh 1 v 0 Bristol Rovers
Constable(13)

Eastleigh went into the break a goal up after a dominate midfield display. The team had been keeping the ball well and had been hitting Bristol hard on the counter. Manager Nicholas Laurent told the lads he was pleased with the performance, but he knew they were capable of more. The team seemed a bit confused. Not wanting to send the team out in a bad mood, he decided to have a quick chat to each of the sections, telling the defenders, midfielders and strikers, that he had just meant they need to finish the job and that he was pleased with how they had played. The players seemed to respond well to what he said before going back out for the second half.

Second Half
Nothing of significance happened in a fairly lackluster second half.

Post Game
A well fought game that saw the hosts take home the win and proceed to the third round of the FA Trophy. Nicholas Laurent was pleased with the result and told the lads they had played well against a team that sat above them in the league.
After the lads left the shed something occurred to Laurent. That was his first ever clean-sheet as a manager. He had never managed to keep one in Norway and since he had been here he hadn't either. Something was starting to click, maybe it was the extra efforts he had put into the teams training on defensive positioning before the game.

Final Score
Eastleigh 1 v 0 Bristol Rovers
Constable(13)

POTM
J.Turley with a rating of 7.6 for Eastleigh.

Eastleigh v Altrincham

Match Preview
Altrincham visit the Silverlake Stadium in their rescheduled round 29 clash against Eastleigh. Altrincham sit in 7th place on 44 points whilst the hosts sit in 13th on 39 points. A win today would be greatly appreciated by both sides as they make bids for the promotion playoffs.

Starting lineup
c81b1602cc.jpg

Jai Reason is back in the lineup today after missing three weeks with a damaged elbow. He replaces the out-of-form Atiku. Lennox retains his spot in goal after managing to keep a clean-sheet in Eastleigh's last fixture against Bristol Rovers. Burton has also been included to see J.Midson rested on the bench today.

738a81ce50.jpg

Laurent had just received the text from McAllister. Another ****** long-term injury. He was starting to get sick and tired of hearing players getting injured every two seconds. He couldn't quite understand why his players seemed to be so soft. He didn't tell them to go into tackles hard, and he told them to be smart about how they tackled. Maybe the fact it's non-league football and the opposition most of the time just kick and chase. Battle of brawn vs brain in this one.

Transfer Proceedings

Nicholas sat patiently in his office staring at the computer screen. He was nervous to tell you the truth. He was waiting on a few transfer offers to come back on one or two players he felt would add some much needed quality to the squad. Unfortunately due to the club's economic position, he was forced to put in loan offers since he wasn't able to pay the wages certain players, on permanent deals, were asking. As he looked away he heard a *ding* come from his computer. A new email had appeared from Sunderland's Head of Youth Development. Nicholas opened the email.

'Dear Nicholas Laurent,
We are pleased to inform you that your loan proposal of Lynden Gooch has been approved. We will require no contribution to his wage. This deal will last until the end of the season and we hope that Lynden will gain some valuable first team football from this. There are no additional clauses in this deal.

Regards,

Ged McNamee'

"F$%k yea!" Screamed Nicholas which in turn led to the club's receptionist to peer around the corner, only to see Laurent jumping up and down. Gooch had been recommended to him and in the scout report he was told he had the potential to be a key first team player. He also boasted some impressive attributes for a 19 year old.
b5d0063c88.jpg

For a young attacking midfielder he had some good dribbling and had a bit of bite to his speed as well. He wasn't any Santi Cazorla or Mesut Ozil, but he might just be able to provide a bit of energy in an ageing midfield that is struggling with injuries.

Just when Nicholas thought his day couldn't get any better, he heard another *ding*. This time it was an email from Hartlepool's Head of Youth Development.

'Dear Nicholas Laurent,

We are pleased to inform you that your request to loan 21 year old right back Jordan Richards has been approved.
We understand that due to recent injuries you needed additional cover in this position. We will require no contribution to his wage and only ask in return he will gain some valuable first team football.

Regards,

Steve Wain.'

Have you ever had one of those days when everything just seemed to be going your way? Well for Laurent, this was one of them. The only thing that would make it better is if someone made a ****** offer for Beckwith so he could be done and dusted with that whole captaincy saga.

Jordan Richards was also another player that was recommended to him by his scouting team and like Gooch, he too had some impressive attributes for a young player.
174c00591f.jpg

Well if he was honest, he wasn't a real step-up from the first choice Spence, however he did have a bit of pace to him and his off-the-ball movement and teamwork would be vital to him getting forward. Laurent would of liked it if he was better with his crossing but that isn't anything that can't be worked on. Laurent was just happy that he managed to find some half-decent cover on such short notice.

FC Halifax v Eastleigh

Match Preview

Eastleigh travel to Halifax after a disappointing 1-2 loss in their last league fixture. Halifax who have gained 7 points in their last 3 league matches will be hoping to continue a good run of form. Eastleigh on the other hand have only won one of their last four as they look to pick themselves up and get back to winning ways.

Starting lineup
6ea48b5c38.jpg

Loanee Lennox is back in the lineup with loanee Richards making his debut for the club in place of the injured Spence at right back. Howard is back into the lineup with Reason being rested this match. Youngster Gooch will not make his debut for the club after he played in last night's under 21's match and is therefore not fit for today's game.
The team will set-out in a more counter-attacking fashion as they are deemed underdogs in this encounter to Halifax.

Match Report

First half

Lucas Dawson headed home in the 7th minute from Howard's drilled in corner to give the visitors a surprising lead after being tipped the underdogs in this encounter.

Half time
FC Halifax 0 - 1 Eastleigh
Dawson(7)

The team got into the change room in high spirits and Nicholas shared their buzz. He told them that they had played extremely well and that they needed to keep it up in the second half if they were to come away with the three points. The team all agreed with him and responded well to what he had to say.

Second half

In the 55th minute another well worked corner saw Reid head home this time from in-front of the near post. Howard was on point with his corners today and it looked like the team's practice midweek on set-pieces was really paying off. Manager Nicholas Laurent was ecstatic when his team doubled their lead just before the hour mark.

Post Game

"What a ****** good performance lads. I am proud of each and everyone of you. To come to The Shay is no easy task, but we managed to get the lead after some brilliant balls from Howard. It's good to see our training pay off in a game. Good job everyone."

The team was buzzing after that performance and no one could question why, it was probably their best performance since Laurent had taken over. The team sat back and absorbed pressure and gave Halifax no room in midfield. When Eastleigh got the ball, they were smart and held onto it to give their midfielders and defense a well earned break.

Full time
FC Halifax 0 - 2 Eastleigh
Dawson(7), Reid(55)

POTM
Reid with a rating of 8.2 and a well worked header to give him a goal.

After the team were walking back to the team-bus, Laurent thought it would be good to pullaside Reid.

"Mate, that was a ****** ripper of a defensive performance there. Well done, I hope you can keep it up."

"Thanks gaffer, I hope I can continue this form. It felt good to play like that."

Reid shook his managers hand before catching back up to his team mates in a happy mood.

Eastleigh vs Sutton United

Match preview
Easleigh will be looking to charge forward in this FA Trophy clash as they are seen as the outright favourites against the Conference South Sutton United. Sutton have been in bad form leading up to this match, drawing one and loosing two and it will be hard to see anything but a loss for them here to

Starting lineup
45718b17f5.jpg

A defensive change up will see Turley slot in at right back whilst Malaga start in center back. Richards was set to start but it was revealed before the game that the loanee from Hartlepool is cup tied and therefore ineligible to play this match. A bit of a attacking experiment with Midson slotting in at the top of the midfield diamond and youngster Gooch will appear for the hosts on the bench after a decent game in the Eastleigh U21's midweek.

Match Report

First half

The hosts got off to a flying start after Turley's cross in the 38th second found veteran striker Burton unmarked in the box to head home from 8 yards out.

In the 21st minute, captain Bloomfield would have to be replaced by Nathan Luscombe.

In the 28th minute the hosts doubled their lead from a Jones cross. Turley headed the ball down to, Midson who was running from deep, to finish from 16 yards out on a tight angle, off the inside of the left post.

A few minutes later the hosts would go into overdrive when Luscombe's corner was cushioned for Midson by Partington who made no mistake from 12 yards out. That was Midson's 15th of the season and it looked like Laurent's odd-choice to start him in CAM paid off.

However things went sour. As the players made their way back for the kickoff, Nathan Luscombe went down and had to be substituted off. Definitely not what Laurent wanted to see. Will Evans came on as the replacement.

Half time
Eastleigh 3 vs 0 Sutton United
Burton(1), Midson(28,31)

To say Laurent was pleased was an understatement.
"This is exactly how we need to play every week lads! I know we are the favourites, however if we play like that every week, no team will be able to touch us! Now let's finish the job off, and for the love of God, let's not concede. I like clean-sheets."

The team responded well to what Laurent had to say and went out into the second half in a good mood.

Second half

Deon Burton would have to be substituted in the 61st minute due to injury. Midson would push back up into his preferred striker position and loanee Gooch would make his first appearance for the senior team. The home crowd gave the youngster a standing ovation to welcome him to life at Eastleigh.

After doing the hard yards in the second half, the team took their foot of the gas in the second half and came home comfortable winners.

Post game
"Great performance today lads. I'm really pleased with how you all played, now let's kick on in the league."
The team agreed with what the boss had to say.

Full time
Eastleigh 3 vs 0 Sutton United
Burton(1), Midson(28,31)

It happened again. Laurent got the dreaded phone call from his assistant.

"It's Bloomfield. Andy Cook told me that he's out for 3-4months mate. He did his hamstring."

"Great. How are we for squad depth? He was playing so well and I just don't think anyone would be able to fill the void like he does."

"I know, I know. Gooch might be able to do the job for the time being and Luscombe has been in good form, although he didn't seem to respond to well to you telling him you were going to rest him for the next game since he looked buggered. "

"Yea you're right. Well I guess we'll have to make do. I don't think I can bring anyone else in this window if I can't get rid of a bit of deadwood within the squad. I'll see you tomorrow then."
*hangs up*

"Get fu$%@d." Muttered Laurent to himself.

Why does this always happen? The injury list was getting longer and longer and the team were heading to a crucial part of the season that would define where they would finish. I guess it was time for another relaxing evening of Game of Thrones to take his mind off things.
809f5fef41.jpg

Good clean sheet for Lennox in his 1st game!
Yea he has been playing well. I made the mistake of resting him for one game and we ended up losing. Won't be doing that again. :P
He has pulled off some pretty good saves for me.

Second half

And brilliant, in the 88th minute after literally one highlight all game, Kidderminster somehow managed to score through Byrne. Let's just say Laurent was very, very annoyed at his defence for not closing him down.
Post game

The lads responded well, but Laurent was still furious that they had let an easy point slip.

Match Preview
Eastleigh travel to conference north Stockport in the 4th round of the FA Trophy. Both teams have agreed that extra time will be played in this tie in-case of a draw at the end of regulation time. Stockport have been in impressive form in the league, winning 4 of their last 5 games. However it'll be the Conference National team that will be seen as the favourites in this encounter that is sure to entertain the crowd. With over 2000 tickets being pre-purchased, today's game is set to be a big one.

Starting lineup
8ca0944d65.jpg

With Richards cup tied, Turley will have to fill in at right-back once again meaning center half Malaga is called back into the starting lineup. Burton will start up-front along side Constable. Gooch will get his first start for the club and goalkeeeper Cropper is in the starting 11 today as A.Lennox is being rested on the bench.

Match Report

First Half
The hosts went a goal up in the 31st minute when Glover got onto the end of a ball over the top before sliding past Cropper.

Half-time
"Not good enough. Do you even ****** want to win? Show some heart and desire and get out there and win this match!"
The lads seemed pumped up after Laurent's little motivational speech and walked out of the change room like warriors ready for battle.

Stockport 1 v 0 Eastleigh
Glover(31)

Second half

With the visitors pegged against the wall, Laurent made a slight tactical change and saw the team play in a 4-2-2-2 with more attacking football. The changes would prove golden when in the 65th minute, Midson would prove super sub after a well worked counter attack saw Constable run at the defense to put Midson 1-on-1 with the keeper.

And in the 77th minute he was at it again, latching onto Constable's deflected header which saw the visitors complete the comeback and take the lead.

Post-match
"Lads to come back after after being a goal down is brilliant. Well done. We're in the semis and nothing will stop us from getting that trophy!"
With high-fives all round the team were in good spirits going into their semi-final clash.

Full-time
Stockport 1 v 2 Eastleigh
Glover(31), Midson(65,77)

POTM
Super-sub Midson with a rating of 8.7 and two crucial goals to see Eastleigh into the semi finals.

"Hey Laurent, just a word on Deon Burton. He'll only be out for about 6-9 days. Should only miss a game or two. Bit of a dead leg, but nothing major."

Nicholas sighed at his head physio's news.
"I guess it's better than a few months like the rest of the lads! It looked worse when he had to come off."

"Well you can thank me and my magic fingers!" Chucked Andy.

Laurent couldn't help think of Andy Cook being a creepy old man massaging Burton....OKAY enough of that thought! Moving on....
