July 2023 - Season Review​

It has been a disaster second half of the season. I had 22 points at the half way point of the season and by the end I finished with 34 points. Those two wins were with the new 5-3-2 formation that I created but then I lost the last two games using it. I noticed that I had far less possession than I had with the 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 but I did score more goals per shot on target.

New Job
I applied for my first international job and got it. I need to figure out how I'm going to select my squad because if I had to do a spreadsheet for every player, I'd go insane. I might just go on what my assistant recommends/star ratings.

September 2023 - Transfer Window​
Transfers In/Out
I lost some great talent in midfield which I haven't been able to replace in Gilson Costa (highest transfer ever received) but I've signed some young midfielders who will hopefully develop into very good footballers. I also sold my reliable striker Jose Postiga but replaced him with a much better striker (attributes wise) in Hidelbrando who was an absolute bargain.

November 2023 - Euro 2024 Qualifiers​

Ladder
I took over Switzerland just before the second Poland game and then I qualified comfortably. The only hiccup I had was against Georgia where I had to come from behind and score a winner in the 90th minute.


Heading into Euro 2024, I'm concerned about the ageing squad. The average age is 29 so I'm going to try and give some younger players game time during the friendlies leading up to the competition proper.

I'm just above the relegation zone as it was predicted by the media and I've just as well in the cup competitions as I did last season.

As you can see, I started the season off terribly despite a great preseason. I lost the first 7 rounds of the season so despite most of the losses being by a single goal, I decided to do some research. I came across the thread Johan Cruyff's 3-4-3 Diamond (Very Fluid). I'm a big fan of Cruyff's philosophy and how it shaped Barca/ Pep so I decided to make some modifications to my team instructions. The difference in results from round 1-7 and 8-17 have been astounding.


For the people who have been following my progress, you would know that my teams always did well in the possession stats but with these changes, I haven't been able to dominate possession but I've had better results. The most important thing is the team is still trying to build up from the back, play with short/medium passing and a lot of movement - also known as 'tiki taka'.

Job Offers
I've had a job offer from Sporting CP, who currently sit in 6th, and it looks like I'm going to take it. I just feel like I can't take Freamunde further forward as I only have the Brazilian and Portuguese leagues active so it doesn't give me a lot of options to improve my squad. I'll confirm my decision in my next update.
 
May 2024 - Season Review​
I really struggled to score this season - something I will have to look into during preseason but I somehow managed to stay up even though I lost the first 7 rounds of the season.


I also got an offer from Sporting for an interview. Unfortunately I didn't get the job.

Competitions
I'm very happy with my progress in the Portuguese Cup but unfortunately I lost in the semi final to Estoril. I had a player get sent off early in the first leg and lost 3-0.
