I've had serious concerns about this for some time. The rate at which pace goes up and down is, I feel, quite unrealistic. I would put pace in the same category as penalties, free kicks and corners. These stats don't seem to fluctuate much as its down to natural ability.

Some players are fast, some aren't. The most extreme example i've seen is Alexey Rudenok, he starts the game with pace of 13, and he eventually develops to have a pace of 19. We're talking someone going from the pace of Dirk Kuyt to the pace of Walcott. When Walcott was 17, he was as fast as Walcott, not as fast as Kuyt.

This happens with youngsters as well. I've yet to see a regen of mine with a pace of 10+. Are all my youngsters as slow as Mertesacker? The U18 games must be like a game of tortoise's!

Was Walcott slow when he was a teenager? Was Owen? Was Messi?

I see the same when players reach their 30's. Sure, their stats will decline, you can't argue that. But I had a forward whose pace was 18 at the age of 32, by 33 he had a pace of 13. This seems too drastic to me, you still get the likes of Drogba, Bellamy showing you can actually run when you're in your 30's.

Is this something other people feel or is it just nitpicking?

Hmmm I see what you mean but I'd rather a player CAN improve rather than couldnt :)

1) it depends on your training, youngsters have CA and PA and the CA being normally a much lower number out of 200, PA points are spent on stat progression so if you have a player primarily training on pace, he will increase no matter what. Even if he is like 6'7 and weighs 102kg :)

2) Lucio has still got like 14 pace and acceleration at 35 etc, there are a few exceptions to the rule that as soon as a player is older than 33 his physical stats will start to decline drastically (some players even before that)

3) of course players can become quicker, but I know what you mean, you are either born Hussain Bolt or Xavi (**** examples but you know what I mean)

4) you are being a little nitpicky as well :) dont stress too much about it

I agree about the pace issue to a degree. I've never seen a footballer in real life gain pace dramatically as they get older, sure it should go up a few but from 10-19 is far too extreme. Also don;t forget in game the higher natural fitness is, the less dramatically the players physical stats will decline as they age.

Not really nitpicking at all.
Like you said, at 17 Theoooooooooo was one of the quickest out there, so therefore at 15, as a regen, there should be similar generated player stats.

Natural ability seems to have not been perfected (to put it as kindly as possible).
There's little reason the game shouldn't be producing a bucketload of speed demons. Fine, 90% of them can't control the ball in doing so, but that's what training is for.

I certainly question Physical Attributes.
Accelleration can only be improved slightly, unless an underlying issue like short hammys which will also affect Pace. IRL Fast-twitch muscles can only be trained up so far. You have 'em, or you don't run the 100m in sub 11sec.
Agility can be trained up, but again, only minimally. A kid should not be struggling in this department unless overweight.
Balance this is another have it or you don't, but if a kid can get through an academy without balance... i'd be surprised.
Jumping can be worked on as it's not so heavily reliant as Accelleration for fast-twitch muscle.
Natural Fitness will always improve and plateau and reduce in a carreer, but the start point varies from person to person by up to half of what the game allows.
Pace Similar to Accelleration in that it can be improved, but massive changes are blue moons.
Stamina Can be improved over the years until about 30. Should fluctuate up to 5 points though through injury, illness, weight loss/gain. But this shouldn't take long to get back to where it was following said short term physical condition.
Strength From a high performance view of it "Improve from 18, push to 27, maintain the rest. Under 18s should be about technique."

The Mental and Tactical I'm pretty ok with, no it's not perfect, but that also makes the challenge!

good point's, for 2012 Newgens have been changed but no detail has been released.

I agree that to go from 10 to 19 is quite drastic. But Accelaration and Pace can be worked on and technique improved, if your regen is 15 he is not fully physically developed yet. That is why most 100m sprinters will not hit their peak till 22-27.
