EDIT: On City's main site now. http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Club-news/2011/July/New-role-for-Patrick-Vieira-at-Manchester-City

"Manchester City is delighted to announce that Patrick Vieira has accepted the newly created position of Football Development Executive with the club.
The World Cup winner will have a wide ranging role, helping to deliver the club's social responsibility programme, both in the UK and abroad, as well as working closely with City's commercial partners.

He will also take an active role in the development of youngsters at the Platt Lane complex, providing mentoring support as part of the Academy's Multiskills Programme, which seeks to provide a well-rounded lifestyle education for the club's junior players.

35-year old Patrick, who has retired from professional football to concentrate on this new role, joined Manchester City in January 2010, becoming Manager Roberto Mancini's first signing.

In a remarkable playing career spanning 18 years he won numerous domestic championships in both England and Italy, as well as the World Cup with France in 1998 and the European Championship two years later. The last of his five FA Cup successes came in May as City overcame Stoke at Wembley, ending the club's 34 year wait for silverware."

Thought I read "Manchester City is delighted to announce that Patrick Vieira has retired".

That's 100k+ off the wage bill.

saw this last week already :) or was that him deciding to either retire or join the Gunners again... read it 2 min ago on Soccernet! yeah, big relief for City...

The man is a legend, was so good for Arsenal.

Happy Retirement Patrick.

Legendary midfielder, but can hopefully become an ambassador for world football. Especially in his home country of Senegal.

Great player to watch, was about his time to step down.

EDIT:

I'm bitter about him staying at City, though. Come back to Arsenal!

Absolute legend, although it was becoming more and more apparent that his days were over a couple of years ago.

Fantastic footballer especially in his days at Arsenal, will be a great coach and i can see him managing one day.

He was a fantastic player, one of my favourite players from France...

Hoping for him to become a coach, he'd be a magnificent coach definetely...

Aww going to miss big Paddy V, great player shame hes at City though.

Shame,

He's best days were at Arsenal when the rivalary was big. The clashes between himself and Keano are still to this day legendary. The fixture hasn't been the same since they both left in my opinion.

'i'll see you out there'
was a good player, my mate works at city's training ground at carrington, he claims viera didn't train and would just sit in the sauna for 100+k a week!
but after all,
he gave giggsy the ball and arsenal won **** all!

Easy life for some!

I will remember him for his clashes against Keane.. Vieira Vs Keane. Those were the best Premier league years.. Loved it every bit and adding to it Wenger Vs Ferguson..

that penalty winner in the fa cup was immense.

great servant viera

Always hate to see quality players from the past retire. Gotta happen at some point. Been some tremondous highlights from yesteryear. So long Patrick. You've provided some quality football to watch.

Also, quite possibly the most misspelt footballer of all time.
