How does the pitch size affect what your passing style should be?

it depends how your team plays

if your going to play through the middle you should make the pitch the biggest size because the middle of the pitch is tight players would struggle to find space.

if you play wide with wingers then have a small pitch.

and if you are a lower league club you should make your pitch the smallest because they are **** and have low stamina and get tired very easy.

I'm trying a game as Blackburn. Was looking at trying out one of the predefined diamond formations. When playing the game against team with a long pitch says favours more direct balls, so I assumed shorter pitch would favour a shorter passing style. Would that be right?

yep, but it still doesnt mean you cant play short on a long pitch its still effective.

I presumed a larger pitch would mean play with more width since there's more room for your wingers

A smaller pitch surely requires a tactic with more in the centre of midfield?

nope. because wingers dont need space really all they do is hug the line.

When playing teams with smaller pitches in previous games it says wingers will struggle to find space and favours teams that play through the middle. Is this not the case then?

That aside it is the passing style itself I'm unsure of.

I was thinking that on a longer / bigger pitch players would be further apart and therefore make it more difficult to play a shorter passing game, certainly for teams without world class players anyway.

in previous games yes but on fm 09 on small pitches i have noticed it only effects your central midfielders.

yes i would be more difficult to play a short passing game on a long/bigger pitch for ******* players yes but it wouldnt be a problem for world class players.

I fail to see how it really makes a difference because you can only change lengths/widths by a few metres, it wouldn't make such a difference in real life.

I think this should be dropped from the next fm.

To sum up quickly,
Long and wide pitch will leave lots space behind the defence, so play direct.
(use if you have quick forwards/wingers)
Short and narrow pitch, short passes to break opponent down and make the odd chance.
(use if you're team are not very quick e.g the Wrexham scum)

Ripped straight from tactical theorems and frameworks.

ye, just download it (its a quick one), it just decompresses the file and its really easy to use.

The length of the pitch has nothing to do with width. It is mostly about how deep you play your defence. If you use a long pitch this will exploit plenty of space behind of a defence that pushes forward. Therefore if you play a deep defence you are best playing a longer pitch and if you play a more libero defence (one that pushes forward) you should use a shorter pitch.

What about normal sizes

And hwo do i see my pitch size

i left it unaltered

What tactics do you play? Has anyone got the TT+F document for this fella???

I adapt for all away games due to the oppositions pitch sizes, with more winger emphasis on large pitches and more cm's on narrower pitches and a more direct style on longer pitches etc.

But at home i dnt know my pitch size.

I play 4-4-2 at home with emphasis on wide play, quick, direct, attacking and creativity on much....i change how the defenders push up according to scout reports about how quick their strikers are...play more down the pitch with quicker strikers n push up against slower strikers.

Actually found my pitch is narrow and prefers attacking through the middle.

Will it mean my team plays bad if i play with no preference for Narrow or width...and keep direct and quick play..

I presume short narrow play creates few chances.
