My first "Football Manager" game was like Jake said ... Championship Manager. It wasnt 97/98 but I remember the two companies splitting and making two games. making the difficult choice of which one to buy

Deserting the Championship Manager name was at first a difficult decision, but after researching what actually happened, i decided Football Manger would definitely be the better game, and i was right.

''When SI split from Eidos, SI Games kept the base code, the game database and programming of the game, whilst Eidos kept the name "Championship Manager" and its interface.''

With that knowledge in mind, it was very easy to choose SI and Football Manager. Also FM 2005 was released about 4 months before CM5, bad move by Eidos. :)

Have played every FM.

First SI game was CM 97/98
This...

Have bought every SI offering from CM 97/98 onwards and still have them all

CM 01/02 was probably my favorite version before FM series

Yeah 2004 was a difficult time but, like you, i looked into what Eidos had and what SI had. The only positive i could find for Eidos was they had the name.

Despite this i still bought CM2005, i thought it only fair to buy both FM2005 and CM2005 and find out for myself - no contest, SI kick ***
