January Transfer Update

With the club in a lot of financial trouble I was restricted to loan players with very low wages, which made it extremely difficult to attract the kind of player that is going to improve the squad to the club at the moment. I was also aware that I would probably lose one or two star players during the transfer window in order to help the situation.

INs

I was only able to obtain one loan player during the transfer window which was very frustrating as I felt we needed 2 or 3.

John Fleck (12 month loan deal - Rangers)

article-1138400-0340FF7E000005DC-692_468x401.jpg

However I am extremely happy with the signing of John Fleck from Rangers on a 12 month loan deal with the option to buy for 2.5 million at any time. Fleck was only requesting £1000 p/w in wages which was ideal for the club and his ability to play on either wing or up front is a big plus. I am hoping John gets his head down and works hard to force his way into the team and then if the money problem gets sorted we would look at a permanent deal.

View attachment 55566

OUTs

Due to our situation I had to try an reduce the wage bill and make a bit of money in the process so I was always going to lose a few key players.

Nadir Belhadj (6 million - Benfica)

Nadir_Belhadj_694637a.jpg

Benfica came in with an offer that we could not refuse and Belhadj stated that we wanted to move on so the deal suited both parties. I am also confident that given time fleck can step in to Nadirs boots.

Richard Hughes (250k - Derby)

richard_hughes.jpg

Richard was currently playing reserve football for us so when the offer came in he naturally wanted to go an play regularly and I was not going to stand in his way.

Gael Nlundulu (2.5 million - Man Utd)

0,,12562~5764656,00.jpg

As soon as Utd made their interest the French starlet we could do nothing to stop the transfer going through as 2.5 million is a lot of money for a 17yr old.

Premiership Transfers

3 major transfers happened in this window:

Jadson Shaktar > Livverpool (free transfer)

Vargas Fiorentina > Man City (25 million)

Di Maria Benfica > Man Utd (14 million)

Managers View

Given the clubs position I always knew it would be hard to keep the entire squad together and I am happy with only losing one of my major players. I am also delighted at the loan signing of John Fleck and think he will have a big influence in English football and I will be hoping for a permanent deal. I am crossing my fingers that the board get something sorted quick so everyone can go back to talking about the football. We have a difficult month ahead and will need the whole squad together if we our to stay in this league.

February Update

The club had a total of 6 fixtures coming in the month of February with 3 league matches and 3 FA cup ties.

Portsmouth 2 Preston 1 Smith (63) Quincy (90) - Welbeck (48) FA cup 4th Round Replay

We controlled the game with 60% possession but didn't take our chances when they came. This meant we had to come from behind and a 90th minute goal put us in the next round MOM - Tommy Smith

fa_draw.jpg

Stoke 2 Portsmouth 5 Whelan (54) Tuncay (86) - KP Boateng (21) Smith (40) (44) (51) Ben-Haim (47) Premiership

What a performance! The 2nd time in 3 weeks we have hit 5 goals in a match. We played simply outstanding an even lead 5-0 at a stage. Stoke could not handle the tempo and work rate which the team showed. If we continue to play like this we will have no bother beating the drop. Tommy Smith also hit an 11 minute hatrick to continue his good form. MOM - Tommy Smith

Tottenham 2 Portsmouth 1 Bentley (12 ) Crouch (37) - Quincy (66) Premiership

We battled very hard against a very good Spurs side. We could have had a point as Smith hit the woodwork twice late on. However our season wont be defined on results in matches like these. Portsmouth Best - Quincy

Bristol City 1 Portsmouth 1 Akindee (84) - Piquionne (12) FA cup 5th Round

A fairly even game in which no team did enough to win. However it is disappointing we where only 6 minutes from the next round Portsmouth Best - Piquionne

Portsmouth 0 Birmingham 1 Ferguson (14) Premiership

This was a massive game for us and one where we where looking to pick up 3 points. We ended up with none and the lads are very disappointed with this as a win here would have taken us out of the bottom 3. We need to press on and not dwell on this result. Portsmouth Best - Ben-Haim

Portsmouth 1 Bristol City 0 Piquionne (78) FA cup 5th Round Replay

We are delighted to be in the next round and a good solid performance to go with it. In truth we never really looked like losing the game. We have drawn Liverpool at home in the Quarter Finals. MOM - Dusko Tosic

Player Of The Month - Ben-Haim

The Israeli defender has produced some outstanding displays at the back this month as well as chipping in with the odd goal.

Injury Update

The club has no new injury worries and have welcomed back all the Africans from the African Cup of Nations.

A Managers View

The month started of very brightly with and outstanding performance against Stoke and a battling display against Spurs but since then we have not looked at our best. We our delighted to be in the cup Quarter Final and we will look forward to that. We have slipped 4 points from safety now and with Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool all to come next month we will need a big effort to make sure we do not get tailed of at the foot of the table

Some good result there, tommy smith is scoring, unusual lol

March Update

The club had a a total of 6 fixtures in the month of March, with 4 Premier league games and two FA cup ties. We had some really tough fixtures as well playing Liverpool 3 times :O Utd and Chelsea.

Portsmouth 0 Liverpool 0 FA Cup 6 Round

Was an even game with the Fratton Park faithful in good voice. We defended superbly and made a few chances on the break and set plays and are slightly disappointed not to end the tie at the first attempt MOM- Ben-Haim

Liverpool 3 Portsmouth 0 Torres (40) (68) - Gerrard (66) Premiership

Liverpool came out on top but we did make them work for the points and had 3 great chances when it was 1-0. We cannot dwell on this result to much because we have a must win home next against Wigan Portsmouth Best - John Utaka

We also received good news before the Liverpool match with the take over of the club being complete :) however the news was not so great for myself :(

Portsmouth 2 Wigan 1 Smith (70) KP Boateng (90) - Rodallega (83) Premiership

What a result! I just wonder how important KP Boateng last minute strike will be come the end of the season. This was a must win and we left it very very late indeed. We are all ecstatic about getting the 3 points here 2day and you can see how much it means to the Portsmouth faithful. I even got a vit carried away in the celebrations today myselfMOM - Yebda

I received some good news from the owner Charile Miller today. He came down to me before we went out against Chelsea and told me: I get to stay on as Pompey manager :D

View attachment 56357

Chelsea 2 Portsmouth 0 Terry (33) Lampard (68) Premiership

We fought tooth and nail today put got nothing from the game. Chelsea players will tell you that was their hardest game in a few weeks. If we continue to scrap like that I am fully confident we can stay in this league. Portsmouth Best - John Utaka

Liverpool 3 Portsmouth 0 N' Gog (5) Riera (64) (66) Tosic (OG) (86) - KP Boateng (17)FA Cup 6 Round Replay

We again battled really hard and had Liverpool worrying for long spells until Riera's 2 in 2 minutes killed us off. The dream of a cup final is over for another year at least :( but we will take great heart in our performance up until 60 minutes. Portsmouth Best - KP Boateng

Portsmouth 3 Man Utd 4 Smith (pen 52) (90) Piquionne (86) - De Ceglie (11) Rooney (29) Berbatov (45) Carrick (90+2) Premiership

So close to getting what would have been a priceless point against the champions :( We thought we had stunned them with two late goals until Carrick hit a winner deep in injury time. What makes things worse is we hit the post just before he scored. However again there are plenty of positives but positives wont keep us in this league. It was a pleasure to be involved in what has been the game of the season and the best game I have been involved with. MOM - Tommy Smith

Player Of the Month KP Boateng

The young German midfielder has light up Fratton park this month with some of his fantastic performances and has also contributed with some great goals so for these reasons he is my player of the month

KevinPrince-Boateng-Portsmouth_2379825.jpg

Injury Update

Diop and Boateng both picked up niggling injuries against Utd and will both be out for a few weeks

A Managers View

This was a very tough month for us playing teams from the big four 5 times. However we managed to win the 6 pointer against Wigan which was vital. We need to take our performance level against the big clubs into next months fixtures and we will do ok for our selfs. Although we currently sit 4 points from safety with only 6 games to go I have faith in myself and the players here to get us out of this situation.

I have inserted the league table and squad screenshots.

April Update

The club had a total of 4 Premiership games in the month of April

Portsmouth 3 Sunderland 0 Smith (pen42) 74 Dindane (66) Premiership

It was a must win match and we produced a performance to match. Smith was again superb and in defense we where faultless. we must rally for the next 3 games to get us out of this situation. MOM - Tommy Smith

Tommy+Smith.jpeg

Blackburn 2 Portsmouth 1 Diouf (90+1) (90+5) - Piquionne (54) Premiership

Absolutely gutted! We played as well as we have since I have taken over and deserved to be 1-0 after 90 minutes but what was to follow was a nightmare. Two goals conceded in injury time :( however we do not have time to dwell and now must get something against Wolves next time out. MOM - Piquionne

Wolves 3 Portsmouth 3 Keogh (2) Jones (10) Doyle (69) - Smith (1) Piquionne (34) Quincy (38) Premiership

Was a great game but again we our disappointed we didn't come away with 3 points after being in front. Other results mean this point is a valuable one. We now must go to arsenal and battle *** our lives depended on it. MOM - Piquionne

View attachment 56729

Arsenal 2 Portsmouth 1 Guardado (17) Bendtnar (23) - Kanu (44) Premiership

We battled hard but come away with nothing to show for it. This result along with others mean that we must take at least 4 points from our remaining two games to stay up :S We will not give up hope and will continue to fight til the last day. Portsmouth Best - Kanu

Player Of The Month Piquionne

The Striker has really been on top from this month. He scored 2 goals in our 4 matches and also picked up 2 MOMs. We hope he can carry this form into the last two games to give us a chance.

FredericPiquionne.jpg

Injury Update

There was no real major injury concerns this month

A Managers View

The Blackburn result was a real kick in the teeth for the team. This months results mean we must now take at least 4 points in the remaining 2 games to give our selfs a chance. We still believe that we can push on and get two results to keep this club in the division. We also need a big effort in the next home game from the fans in order to get 3 points against Villa.

I thought this was Max's story when I noticed the title ;)
Where do you get your pictures from?

Good luck with the rest of the fixtures mate.

May Update

With only the two remaining games this month it really is do or die time for Pompey.

Portsmouth 1 Aston Villa 0 Smith (41) Premiership

We have given our selfs a glimmer of hope with this result. We now must go and put in a similar performance at Everton. MOM - Tommy Smith

The Final Day

There are a total of 3 teams that are scrapping for safety on the last day and two of them must go down. The teams our Burnley Portsmouth and Fulham. The scenario is Fulham have 38 points with a home game against champions league hopefuls Man Utd. Portsmouth have 37 points with an away trip to Everton. Burnley have 37 points with a home game against already relegated Wigan.

If Fulham win they will stay up. If Fulham fail to win and Portsmouth win we stay up. If Fulham and Portsmouth fail to win and Burnley win they stay up. If Fulham lose and Burnley fail to win a point will be good enough to keep us up as we have a better goal difference.

Survival Sunday

A Managers View

This is very hard to take at the minute as we where so close until the news came through from Burnley. You can see what it means to the players and fans, they are absolutely gutted. We battled until the end but over the whole season we were not good enough. A club like ours deserves to be playing in the top league and it is my job next season to ensure we our back at the highest level. I would like to thank the supports who have been brilliant since my arrival and my message to them is we will be back again do not worry. We will all go on our holidays now and things will be looked at a few months down the line.

Player Of the Season Tommy Smith

The striker scored 14 Premier league goals last season and was so valuable to the team. We will be relaying on these goals next year to get promotion. Smith was ran close by defender Ben-Haim who also had a superb season.

Unlucky mate, i've tried portsmouth a good few times, either I do total ****, go bust & they have sell my ok players, or usually both. lol

The more i think the more I want try it again its just impossible to make them a great side imo. :/

On a better note, I've realised, once you're finances are "insecure" the players seem to accept miles cheaper wages. Like Kanu is on about 25k a week he signed a new deal for 8k a week. David James was on about 23k after I'd had my way. Shame I just did **** with them. lol

ace story love it. heart-wrenching stuff with all those last minute goals but that's footie. makes it excitin. well done on layout and everything, brill stuff.

Forthcoming Season

918318

Season Objectives

1. Promoted
2. Reduce the wage bill
3. Freshen up squad
4. Ensure the long term safety of the club

Everyone at the club knows that this will be a transition period for the club with almost all the high earners leaving the club and being replaced with young fresh talent. Even though we will have to sell many of our top players I still believe we can assemble a squad that will take us back to the top level of English football. David James has again been named captain of the club with last years top scorer Tommy Smith vice captain.

We always knew that we would have to let most of our top earners go and we where more than happy to let Utaka, Finnan and Brown go. Who in total where costing the club around 120k a week in wages. whoever we where looking to keep a hold of Ben-Haim but the chairman intercepted and accepted a 6million bid. I am also delighted to welcome back Sol Campbell for a 2nd spell at the club. I feel that we have made some excellent loan signings and along with Faty, Trejo and Scannell all joining he club I believe we have a squad capable to win the division.

Pre Season

The club had a quiet Pre Season with a lot of work being behind closed doors and a lot of matches between our squad. We only had three friendlies in total and went unbeaten in all of them. We also got the chances to try some new formations and youth players and overall we our satisfied that we our ready for the new season and a new beginning for Portsmouth FC.

Friendly matches:
