Number 2: If what you are going to say is already on the thread, there's no need to say it again.

Come on Benfica the next 2 matches are important to put us up there again. But I have faith we'll be able to win the league, even though we had a bad start.

ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with great sorriness that I announce that next season's thread will be closed to me and other guests I might invite. I personally don't like this measure but I can't allow what is happening this months to continue. These are, of course, provisional measures which can be changed or cancelled according to what happens until the end of this thread. This was a though decision for me, as the interaction between the thread "owners" and the readers is essential to me, as I like to know if people like what I'm doing. However, the situation here is getting out of control. I'm not asking everyone to stop posting, but please, post decent things, decent opinions, and things which might bring something new to the thread.

Finally, I want to thank everyone who positively contributes to this thread's interest, and sorry those members for paying for a punishment they don't deserve. However, I hope this will result in the end of spam. And here is what I consider spam:
  • Normal Spam (off-topic subjects)
  • Posting things already posted on the thread
  • Childish comments, e.g.: "Benfica is behind Porto ahahaah"
Thank You for reading

It's so emotional..

That's the way Portugal is. Have you ever heard about "fado"? :)

I will talk about everything I feel needed that happened these two weeks: Liga ZON Sagres 2nd and 3rd fixtures, the UCL and EL draws, Benfica and its team and Carlos Queiroz.

The loss at Madeira against Nacional (1-2) was nothing but predictable, according to what I said before. The team is weakened with the worst transfer policy I ever seen from my club. We let two of our diamonds go for a value beyond what they are really worth and bought some players who are definitely good, but not so good as they were. So, we lost quality, perhaps too much for the title holders. Di Maria left and his replacement is Gaitan, a good player as well but with a very different style of football, and adapting a team's football to a single player style might seem easy but it is really hard. In the right wing, Ramires left us without a 100% right winger. I hope Salvio does well but it is a big risk to take when the transfer window is closing tomorrow and we must stick with this squad until January.

We had to win the game against V. Setubal. It would be our turning point, and if we didn't win, we could fall into the hole Sporting was last season. So, a victory was needed, and was what happened (3-0). This victory represented the return of the team and leaving of the 11 players. I saw a team playing, while in the previous games I saw 11 players. The moment of the match was definitely the return of Roberto, who turned hero from villain when he defended a penalty when the score was still in 1-0. With that he regained the trust of many supporters. For me, he was always the number 1 GK, and I trust him 200% for the goalie position.

Now,the UCL draw was decent for us, as it could've been a lot worse. Lyon is a pretty unpredictable team, as they vary their performances very often. We never know what to expect from them. However, I think we can beat them at home and maybe even away. Schalke is a very solid team, a very strong side with quality players in every position, but we can beat them home and hopefully at Gelsenkirchen. Hapoel Tel-Aviv for me is nothing but its keeper, Enyeama. We must beat them home and away but be very careful, as they can be dangerous when underestimated.

The portuguese football had a great fortnight, with Braga making it to the UCL group stages, and I just hope they keep it up and continue impressing the whole Europe. Porto continued playing its quality football which is probably on of the best in our country, and Sporting are winning again, putting last season's disaster away, which is good for our football.

Finally, the Queiroz issue. For me, it is clear that the only way out of this in which Portugal wins is the dismiss of the ex-Fergie right hand. It is obvious that he doesn't have conditions to continue, and it is even more obvious that he is *****. So, why are we making this whole novel? Why are we suing him for every little thing hoping that it leads to his leave? For God's sake, sack him and start working on the EURO 2012 qualifiers, the sooner the better.

Finally Roberto proved is worth his price and also stopped a penalty, very well done ;) This year will go down between Porto and Benfica, Hopefuly Porto will win it, but I have a feeling that Benfica are going to get way better .. Queiroz, go back to Fergie, or coach the under16. FFS !

Nuno, everybody offended Roberto untill he defended that penalty. Personally, I have always supported him, it didn't went well at first because of the pressure coming from:
-being a 'let's loan him' player in Spain
-coming to the Champion in Title(s)
-the price he was paid for

He isn't defending at all, and he doesn't deserve, for now, a first-team spot. Let him settle and he will justify his pricetag :)

Again, cheers fellas, kick-*** thread:wub:

i agree with belz
if there's one thing i learnt from playing fm 10 is that players need to adapt

Sporting is finally showing their once great attacking potential with the 3 - 0 beating of brondby and 3 - 1 to Naval. should have been 4 - 1 if Saleiro could finish and run :@. I was happy to see Sporting playing attacking football once more and now that we have signed veteran goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand we may finally have a good goalkeeper. I am not very fond of Rui Patricio in net because of all the bad goals he lets in and he has had his time to shape up, 4 seasons. For example Sporting vs Naval he was beaten near post with a very weak shot and Sporting vs Brondby he was beaten with a placed shot when he was way out of his six yard box in a very bad Position.

The Europa League draw was pretty Good for Sporting being drawn against Lille (FRA), Gent (BEL), and Levski (BUL). Are toughest matches without a doubt are going to be the home and away legs vs Lille. Lille are unbeaten this season with 1 win and 4 draws in their last 5 games and Sporting have 3 wins and 2 Losses in their first 5 games. For these stats Lille seem to have a solid defense but weak attack in 5 games they have managed to score 3 goals but only suffer one goal. While Sporting have scored 7 goals but suffered 4 goals. Levski seem to be doing good Securing 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss so far this season and but the team doing the best is gent securing 4 wins and 1 loss their first 5 games of the season. This should be an interesting group to watch, But i see Sporting coming out as the winners of the group.

In other Sporting News, Sporting managed to sign Timo Hildebrand on a free tranfer and he signed a one year contrat with the club and secured the services of Tales De Souza, a Brazilian International at the U-16 and U-20 sides, on loan with any cost to the club as Internacional de Porto Alegre will pay his wages while he is on loan at Sporting.
