PORTUGAL 2011/12

As usually, I'll take over the Portugal thread next season. Even though last season's one wasn't very consistent, I hope this year I can give the FMBase community all you want and need to know about the Portuguese football, teams, competitions or players playing there.
Please, INTERACT. Give me feedback during the year. Don't make me feel as I'm wasting my time writing for no one. You can give opinions (about the thread or the subject) or ask any question, I'll do my best to collaborate.

I hope you enjoy it.

exactly. There are already a lot of transfers and I'll try to start posting them so that I don't have much more work during the middle of the holidays.

Ok that's fair enough then. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread then for the transfers and I'll try to contribute when possible, too.

BTW, am I the only one who's excited about Enzo Pérez? And Nolito, and Urreta? I think this could really be Urreta's year, fingers crossed for the kid. He has LOADS of talent. Gaitan is immense already, wouldn't be surprised if any of Europe's "Giants" tried to snap him up around the January window. And this only on the wings.

On the other hand, I'm itching to see Garay playing. I was against his signing so let's see if he can shut me the F up. Emerson, from Lille? I didn't even know he was in our squad untill last game against Toulouse, he is a proven player, looked tidy in the defense, without even training once with his team-mates (the pundits said so). It will be very hard for Lisbon's red side to forget Coentrão, but we have to.

Now, let's clap our hands for this attempt to bring this thread back to activity.8-|

EDIT: double-posting ftw.

Sporting will take the league this year. I can feel it ;)
Paciência is the best manager in Portugal these days, and Sporting has a very reinforced squad.

Capdevila (Villarreal) signs for Benfica

LISBON - Spanish defender Joan Capdevila has agreed to join Benfica on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee from Villarreal, the Portuguese club said on their website on Thursday.
The left-back had a contract with Villarreal that ran until June 2013.
Capdevila, 33, earned the first of his 57 caps for Spain in 2002 and was a key member of the team that won Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
He had short spells at Espanyol and Atletico Madrid early in his career before joining Deportivo La Coruna and moved to Villarreal in 2007.
A reliable and experienced left-back who likes to get forward and is an effective crosser, Capdevila is expected to replace Fabio Coentrao in the Benfica team following the Portuguese international's move to Real Madrid earlier this month.

What do you think?

EDIT: double-posting ftw.
I'm trying to do that, but atm all we have are transfers, and those are being dealt with in separate threads and updated here. However, when you edit a post it doesn't show up, and this way people don't notice the thread. However, the season's beginning is getting closer, and then I promise this will be way much more active. This year, along with the fixture results (with the goals videos, as I'm doing in the pre-season) I will add some relevant news about each club.

Replacement for Coentrao... He is ageing but maybe Benfica were desperate for a replacement. I think a good deal

I think benfica has to be running some kind of illegal activity, in order to pay the 3 Million euros/year wages to this guy.
