Gary Linaker – Welcome everyone to the 2015 League Cup final between two Premier League giants, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
My guests today are former Manchester United and Everton defender, Phil Neville and former Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy.
So Danny, what chance to give your former team today?
Danny Murphy – I actually think Tottenham have got half a chance today. For me, it all depends on which side Man City put out. Throughout the whole competition they’ve fielded a so called ‘weakened team’ if they do that today against an inform Spurs side then I think they’ll struggle.
Phil Neville – A agree with Danny, this is a cup final, you have to play your strongest team! The team they’ve played have done very well to get this far but this Tottenham team are no mugs!
Gary Linaker – Okay, well as you both think so much depends on the starting line ups . . . lets have a look at them . . . . .

Well that is surprising! City boss Mauel Pellegrini has kept faith with the side that has got him into the final and has left out several big names.
Advantage Tottenham do we think?
Danny Murphy – Without a doubt its advantage Tottenham! With the form Spurs are in I’m really surprised by this.
Phil Neville – Pellegrini is taking a big gamble here, he’s under pressure with their poor league form so could really do with some silverware this season and this is by far his best opportunity.
Gary Linaker – Well first of all lets go through the players that are missing for City . . . . .
City have left out: Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Fernadinho and Yaya Toure. All of which are on the bench.
They’ve also left out the squad altogether, Sergio Aguero, Stefan Jovetic, Edin Dzeko, Andriy Yarmolenko.
Phil Neville – Whats really surprising there is leaving out Yarmolenko who absolutely tortured Tottenham earlier on in the season. I can almost understand him leaving out Ageuro due to this recent injury problems but he still should be on the bench.
Gary Linaker – Okay, before we forget who City are playing here today lets quickly go through the spurs starting line up . . . . .
Danny Murphy – Pretty much as we expected really. Spurs will set up as they have done in all the big games this season. They’ll set up deep, allow the opposition the majority of the ball and hit them on the break. With the pace of Townsend, Dembele and the two full backs set up Tottenham to be the perfect counter attacking team.
Phil Neville – The big blow for Tottenham is losing top goal scorer Kevin Gameiro and influential center back Jan Vertongehn, both the long term injuries. Federico Fazio’s come into the side and been brilliant alongside the young and inexperienced Liam Moore.
Gary Linaker – With all this talking we’re in danger of missing the kick off, so lets get down there and see what we get on . . . .
Gary Linaker – Well, Tottenham win their first piece of silverware since 2008! Danny, what did you think of that.
Danny Murphy – Tottenham were fantastic, as much as we can criticise City’s starting line you have to give credit to Spurs! They’d have given City’s first team a real game today.
Phil Neville – I agree. Although I think Pellegrini will come under massive scrutiny now Tottenham deserved the win.
Gary Linaker – Are either of you worried about the amount of game Tottenham could potentially play this season?
Danny Murphy – A little bit. They’re still in the FA cup and have a tough tie in the Quarter finals against Everton. For me the worry is the Europa League! That’s the competition that really takes it out of you because of the travelling. They’ve been lucky so far that the past two teams have been German so the travelling isn’t that bad. But they have a great chance of winning it so they really have to go for it.
Phil Neville – The challenge is now is to get the lads motivated for the league and other cup competitions. It may feel like ‘job done’ a little bit, they’ve won the trophy now but they still have so much to play for.
Gary Linaker – Thanks everyone and we’ll see you again next week for the FA cup Quarter finals.

KICK OFF
11”
A nervy start made by both teams with several mistakes already been made. This one however nearly led to the opening goal. Liam Moore’s shaky back pass only just had enough on it to reach Lloris whos clearances cannoned off Samir Nasri and out for a goal kick.
21”
Another chance for Man City as Nasri slides in young Iheanacho who was one on one with Lloris. Lloris made himself big and did well to turn the effort round the post.
29”
The first chance for Tottenham comes after almost half an hour. Andros Townsend with a great run down the right who then manages to tee up Christian Erikson at the edge of the box. It looked set up perfectly but Erikson blasted wide.
34”
Another chance for Tottenham, this time for young forward Harry Kane. Kane broke the offside trap but put this effort wide after pressure from Mangala.
48”
A crunching tackle between Jonjo Shelvey and Mangala looks to have hurt both players. Shelvey looks to have come off the worse though, it looks like that’s his game over. He’s replaced by Andre Hahn who will presumably play out wide with Erikson coming centrally.
HALF TIME
48”
Man City with an early chance in the second half and to be honest one they should have taken! A deep freekick which was flicked on by Mangala created havoc in the Tottenham box. The ball eventually fell to Navas who couldn’t find the target from close range.
54”
Tottenham starting to get more and more involved in the game now, Andros Townsend seeing much more of the ball giving Kolorov the complete run around.
57”
Great play by Dembele who breaks through the challenge of James Milner and skips past Nastasic, he then feeds through Townsend who has got goal side of Kolorov yet again. Townsend strikes it low and hard across the goalkeeper . . . . .
GOAL
Tottenham 1 - 0 Man City
Poor goalkeeping from ***** Caballero who lets the ball slip through his fingers and into the bottom corner.
58”
City immidiatley bring on David Silva, Yaya Toure and Fernadinho to try and rescue the game.
65”
Even with the big guns on for Man City, its still Tottenham who look more dangerous, this time Harry Kane with a low drive which strikes the bottom of the post.
70”
Its all Tottenham now, City are really struggling and are lucky not to be 2 down. Townsend with yet another chance after beating Kolorov for the umpteenth time. Well saved by Caballero though.
79”
City starting to come into the game more now. Spurs are starting the tire and Toure is taking full advantage of that. He carried the ball from halfway before unleashing a vicious strike with crashes against the crossbar. Lloris had no chance.
85”
City now getting desperate, Spurs are camped in their own box but still City cant break them down. Spurs are forcing them into long shots, the latest from Yaya Toure which was well blocked.
89”
City now with a free kick on halfway, the balls headed away by Liam Moore and finds its way to Harry Kane who looks to run the ball into the corner. He see’s Townsend charging down the middle though and plays in his teammate who calmly beats ***** Caballero and tucks away his second of the day and secures the trophy for Tottenham!
TOTTENHAM 2 - 0 MAN CITY
