Profit making challenge

April 2016

The start of he season run-in started with a an way trip to face Nottingham Forest.

A good, straight forward win!

We didnt play great and only had 10 shots on goal but did more than enough to win comfortably. A brace from inform Wilfried Zaha confirmed the win, in the process Zaha scored his 17th goal of the season.

Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea all drew leaving the door wide open for us. We remain a point clear of Liverpool with just 5 games to go.

Some more unwanted news arrived after this win . . .

View attachment 297904

Danny Ings was ruled out for 7 days with a bruised rib.

Although this is only a week out, it means he misses the Champions Leaue Quarter Final game(s) against Barcelona.

Next up was the first leg of our Champions League tie against Barcelona

View attachment 297909

View attachment 297908

I'm pretty happy with this!

A draw away from home against Barcelona can only be described as a good result. Wilfried Zaha proved to a constant thorn in their side but it was Harry Kane, getting a rare start, who grabbed the headiness with a deflected effort to take the lead.

Lionel Messi then grabbed one back for Barca as they turned up the heat but Lloris stood tall and we ran away with the away goal advantage.

Back to the league and another tough away trip, this time to face Aston Villa.

View attachment 297907

View attachment 297906

Another very good victory!

Harry Kane once again scored the opener before Wilfried Zaha scored his 18th of the season to make sure of the points.
Fabien Delph scored a late wonder strike to make the last 10 mins or so a tad nervy but we held out strongly.
Once again Liverpool lost leaving them 4 points adrift now in 4th. Arsenal and Man Utd recorded straight forward wins to leave them second and third respectively on the same points and 3 points behind us in top spot.

View attachment 297905
We're now 3 points clear of nearest challengers, Arsenal. Man Utd are also just 3 points behind in 3rd with Liverpool a further place behind 4 points adrift.

And now, back to the Champions League to face Barcelona in the second leg.

What a shame! - A penalty shootout defeat !!

We matched Barcelona all game but a couple of poor penalties cost us the match.

We came into the match with a slight advantage of having an away goal. Wilfried Zaha, who really caused Barca problems in the first leg, increased our lead by bagging the first goal. In truth it was poor keeping by Ter Stegen who allowed the powerful shot in at the near post.

View attachment 297900

We kept this 1 goal lead all the way until the 83rd minute when Pedro equalised with a good effort from 10 yards out.

View attachment 297899

The game then went into extra time where both teams were very nervy and created very little. After a boring half an hour the game went to penalties.

View attachment 297895

Phil Jagielka steps up to take the first penalty, he's having to wait an age for Ter Stegen to make his way from the other goal! Eventually everyone's ready for as Jagielka steps up ... and put his effort wide!

Messi then took Barcelona's first and scored with ease.

View attachment 297897

Next up was Christian Erikson who sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to level things up.

View attachment 297896

Neymar took Barca's second and converted with ease.

View attachment 297894

Young Dele Alli is next to step up for Tottenham, and his effort is saved by Ter Stegen!

Jordi Alba then netted for Barcelona to make it 3-1!!

View attachment 297892

Harry Kane then stepped up knowing he needed to score to keep Spurs in it ... and score he does, bagging it into the top corner.

View attachment 297891

Ivan Rakitic now with the opportunity to win the game for Barcelona if he scores ... and he sends Lloris the wrong way !!

View attachment 297890

BARCELONA ARE THROUGH TO THE SEMI'S !!!

After this disappointing loss, we faced Liverpool in the League. A win against Liverpool could end their title challenge.

View attachment 297888

View attachment 297887
A super win!

We had an opportunity to end Liverpool's title hopes ... and we did! We played really well and fully deserved the win. An early goal from Wilfried Zaha, who bagged his 20th of the season, set us well on our way. Jan Vertonghen then doubled the lead shortly after half time after a good cross from Lamela.

Alexandre Lacazette pulled one back to Liverpool late on but it wasnt enough! This now surely ends all hoped Liverpool had of winning their first ever Premier League title.

View attachment 297886

This does effectively end Liverpool's push for the title challenge, they're now 7 points off with just 3 games to go.
We're no also 3 points clear of nearest rivals Arsenal and have a game in hand.

Just 3 games to go in our push for the title, we start with a london derby against QPR.

View attachment 297884

View attachment 297882

The good league form continues!

Harry Kane scored yet again for us to take a 1-0 lead, a good goal from the young striker with a powerful effort from the edge of the box! Wilfried Zaha also continued his good form by netting the second and confirming the win.
This win really should see us over the line! We're now 6 points clear of second placed Arsenal with just 2 games to go. 1 point from the next 2 games will see us crowed champions!!

This result also see's QPR relegated from the Premier League.

View attachment 297881

The title now looks within touching distance! With just 2 games to go we're 6 points clear with Arsenal our nearest challengers.

It just so has it that our next game is at home to Arsenal with an opportunity to win the league against our big rivals.

1 point from the next 2 games will see us crowned champions !!!

So with just 2 games to go, we need just 1 point to secure the league title.

First up, north London rivals Arsenal !!

View attachment 297810

View attachment 297808
We've done it !!!!

We're the champions!

A cracking 2-1 win over local rivals Arsenal. Arsenal took the lead against the run of play with Eugene Konoplyanka netting after beating a mistake from Kyle Walker.

Zaha then had the beating of Jon Flanaghan who clearly fouled him and the referee agreed, awarding a penalty. Phil Jagielka converted with ease to level the scores.

Wilfried Zaha was the in the thick of the action once more, this time he managed to beat the keeping with a low drive to take a 2-1 lead.

We managed to hold out despite Arsenal having a number of late chance.

There's chaos in the stands as Tottenham confirm being champions!!

View attachment 297793

View attachment 297788 View attachment 297786

After securing the league, we had one last game, and we hoped to go out on a high.

View attachment 297784

View attachment 297783
A great end to the season!

Newly crowned champions ended the season is great style with a 4-1 win over relegated side Wigan.

An early goal from Federico Bonazzoli, his first for the club, set us on our way. shortly after Zaha scored his first with a well timed finish, Danny Ings then bagged a third just after Wigan had pulled one back.

Zaha banged in the 4th to round off a thoroughly impressive win.

Great great season!! Tough way to go out against barca but think you have only jhst really startex this challenge, things can only get better!
Hopefully you will be able to keep to your wage budget,

Awesome! Well done!
Whats wrong? Couldn't find any color pictures of Tottenham lifting the League trophy? *shots fired*

love this story, could you screenshot your finances? and how well did Bonnazzoli do with Forest?

loving this mate inspired me to give this a go with napoli 3 players keeping unsurprisingly - higuain, hamsik, callejon. Although only 5/6 players on wages over 50k some deadwood and moving on some very average players who are on too much money for their ability

Going to start a similar challenge with Inter.

Cheers mate, Barca was the toughest defeat i've ever had! I really thought we could do them!

Hahah, no i couldn't actually. I might have to get inventive if we win anything else lol.

love this story, could you screenshot your finances? and how well did Bonnazzoli do with Forest?

Cheers mate! I will do today yeah. I'll just post the next lot of transfers then do the finances. Bonnazzoli didnt really impress if i'm honest, we was injured for a couple of months but i think he only scored 3 goals ! I was hoping he would be getting in our team by now.

Class mate! Looking forward to seeing your transfer business next!

Thanks for following mate.

Well done! Hopefully the Champions League next!

Thats the plan pal, will be tough though.

Glad to know im inspiring people haha. Good luck mate. Signing decent players with the wage budget is much harder than i imagined.

Going to start a similar challenge with Inter.

Good luck mate.

Sorry I haven't been on in a while guys! Should get the next update up today though !!

After the best season many Tottenham fans will have ever experienced, the pressure is on to retain the title this season and bring more silverware to White Hart Lane.

So, after the league table finished like this . . . .

View attachment 296413

There were yet again a couple of managerial changes !!

View attachment 296412

After getting bettered by Tottenham on the last day of the season, Wigan decide to part company with Uwe Rosler. The defeat against Champions Tottenham sealed relegation for Wigan.
Looking at this, Rafa Benitez is the next favorite to also lose his job. . .

View attachment 296411

Well, they say the bookies aren't often wrong!
Shortly after Wigan sacked Rosler, Man City sacked Rafa Benitez after just one season in charge. Yet again City failed to qualify for the Champions League!

View attachment 296410
For the third straight season Man Utd are looking for a new manager.
They eventually finished second, 6 points behind us, they also reached the Fa cup final where they lost on penalties to Hull.
It seems as though Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle is the clear favorite to succeed Blanc. Although this would be tempting, i feel we have a better squad here at Tottenham and in a better position to win competitions.

View attachment 296409

Lastly, Arsenal manager Arsen Wenger retired as manager of Arsenal Fc.
Arsenal yet again just squezed into the Champions League places last season evenually finishing 4 points ahead of Chelsea.
Whatever people say about Wenger, they can't deny he's had a great career, especially at Arsenal.

I wonder who will take over at the old enemy . . . .

I actually think Jose Mourinho has been very lucky to keep his job here! He's constantly been the next favorite to be sacked but is just about hanging on in there.

Chelsea finished 6th this season but did go on to win the League cup (beating us in the final). Given Roman Abramovich's record of sacking managers i would have though Jose would be out the door this summer.

The end of the Premier League season also brought about the final awards . . .

View attachment 296408

Eden Hazard wins player of the year award for a second consecutive year! This achievement is all the more impressive when you consider Chelsea finished 6th in the league and failed to impress !
Hazard finished the season with 15 goals and 16 assists in 34 games . . . . not bad for a winger in a 'struggling' team.

View attachment 296407

Another award which has been won 2 years in a row!
David De Gea has now won the Golden Glove award for the second time in a row. Our own Hugo Lloris is getting closer to the award but is still some way behind De Gea, Lloris finished 3rd last season and 2nd this time around

View attachment 296405
The top goalscorer award went to a surprise winner . . . . Liverpool's Mario Balotelli !!
Balotelli had a great season, scoring 28 goals and setting up another 12 which helped Liverpool to a third place finish. Our own Kevin Gameiro was again the nearly man here! He finished 5 goals behind Balotelli but only managed 1 assist compared to the Italians 12 . . .

who would have thought Balotelli would be praised for the amount of assists !!!

View attachment 296395 View attachment 296394

Zaha rounded off a great campaign with both the young player of the year award as well as Tottenhams fans player of the season.

I really couldnt have asked anymore of the young lad, he scored 17 goals and set up a further 7 from just 36 games . . . from right wing!!!

View attachment 296404
The team of the year didnt really throw up too many surpsises!
Christian Erikson, Wilfried Zaha and Jan Vertonghen all got places in the starting 11 to round off a great season. I'm a little disappointed Kevin Gameiro hasn't featured in this at all.

And last but not least . . . .

View attachment 296397

Unsurprisingly, Glenn Hoddle wins the manager of the year award after winning the Premier League title!!

We made one early incoming transfer this season . . .

View attachment 296396
The agreed loan fee of £6million was triggered to allow the in-form winger to sign for the Champions!

If I'm honest, i cant believe how cheap Zaha was, i think if we offered for him now we'd be looking at £15million+. But the fee was agreed at the start of the season and he wasn't playing that well before joining us.

After winning the Premier League, the so called 'top clubs' came sniffing for the top performers !!

View attachment 296386

First up was an offer from Man Utd for center back and vice captain, Jan Vertonghen! Utd offered to pay £17 million up front with a further £1.5 million after 20 games but also included center back Phil Jones in the deal.

This was relectantly accepted. I really didnt want to lose Vertonghen but i cant turn away that kind of money, especially when the offer includes a ready made (and english) replacement in Jones.

OFFER ACCEPTED.

View attachment 296385 View attachment 296384

Next up Man city offered for Danny Rose . . .

View attachment 296383

The offer itself isn't bad, over £13 million for a young full back who's only a had 1 decent season. I just couldn't find a replacement whilst still sticking to our finances.

Offer rejected.

The final offer recieved was a really tough decision to make . . .

View attachment 296375 View attachment 296374

Italian champions, Juventus, offered £35.5 million for potential superstar Erik Lamela !

This was such a hard decision to make as Lamela has shown signs of being unplayable bu as soon as he reaches that level he picks up an injury for months on end !

It was hard but . . . . OFFER ACCEPTED.

View attachment 296382

After selling Lamela and Vertonghen, i was left with some spending money!
I didnt think the squad needed huge changes, just one or two to improve the squad.

View attachment 296373
The first new recruit is former Barcelona and Spain legend, Xavi!

Now i know this doesnt really fit in with the aim of signing young english players but i felt some experience was needed, especially in the middle of the park.

To pick up Xavi on a free transfer and fairly low wages are a no brainer!

Another signing from Barcelona . . . View attachment 296372
Christian Tello signs on loan from Barcelona.

Tello had 2 previous loan spells at Porto where he made steady impressed. Tello only made 16 appearances and only scored 2 goals.
Tello seems to be way down the pecking order at parent club Barcelona.

Hopefully this should give us cover for losing Lamela, he will give Townsend competition on the left hand side of midfield.

And lastly (for now) . . .

View attachment 296367
This is probably the most exciting transfer i've made while at Spurs.

Ward-Prowse signs from Southampton for £15 million which is the biggest transfer fee we've spent by a long way!

Ward-Prowse is a player we can build the team around, and at such a young age will still be able to improve a lot.

Ward Prowse had been a mainstay in the Southampton side for the last couple of years now, however during this time they never achieved more than an 8th place finish in the Premier League.

The table below shows that we're doing something right . . .

Just the Champions league, Fa Cup, Community Shield and Club World Cup to go.

The profit made on transfers is also pretty impressive, nearly £15 million was made in season 1 and a staggering £26 million profit made in season 2 and we still won the league !!

Well played on winning the league! Doing well profit wise too, I thought it may of been a bit more difficult but im impressed!

Good thing you didn't end up at United. The challenge would have been off then, realistically

Cheers mate. I thought I'd struggle more too tbh. Having to get creative with signings like Cleverley now whos become very impressive!

I know mate, I'd have never moved tbh. They've only got 4 players on less than £50k per week in their first team lol.

With the new football season on the horizon, football fans across Europe all looked forward to the European Championships held in France.

France started as one of the favourites for this tournament following their decent showing in the last world cup and they'll have the home fans right behind them. Germany however are the well backed favourites after winning the last world cup and arguably having the strongest squad throughout Europe.

Germany 3/1
France 5/1
Spain 6/1
Italy 8/1
Belgium 12/1
Holland 14/1
England 16/1

Germany clear favourites then with the bookies thinking France and Spain will be the nearest challengers. England outsiders at 16/1 to win the tournament.

With the tournament just days away, Roy Hodgson organised a press conference to announce the England squad who will take on the rest of Europe.

This is the first Championships with 24 teams entered. This meant Ireland, Northern Ireland, Macedonia and Montenegro all managed to qualify!

After the group stage, the odds changed sightly although there were no major casualties.

Germany 4/1
France 4/1
Holland 7/1
England 10/1
Italy 12/1
Belgium 12/1

The biggest movement came from England, shortening from 16/1 to 10/1. This is after a very impressive group stage, winning all 3 games against Czech Republic, Montenegro and most impressively, Germany.

All the big guns qualify from their groups meaning there's some tasty games in the next round:

View attachment 296095
A couple of surprise results in the second round see's Spain, Germany and Portugal are all knocked out.

View attachment 296094
Italy needed extra time to see out Austria after a tight game, a hattrick from Mattia Destro secured qualification to the Quarter Final.

View attachment 296092
Then came the shock of the round, un-fancied Turkey defeat one of the pre-tournament favourites, Spain. A David De Gea own goal sealed the fate for Spain who round off a disappointing competition. This follows a disastrous World Cup in 2014. Drastic changes seem to be needed for Spain.

View attachment 296091

Switzerland also made it through to the Quarters with a fairly straight forward win against the Czech Republic.

View attachment 296090

Host nation France then made hard work of their win over Greece. A late penalty converted by Jeremy Menez ensured there wasnt another upset on the cards.

View attachment 296089

Holland also struggled against Russia despite being heavy favourites. A very, very late goal by Luke De Jong won the game for the Dutch. The were seconds from a penalty shootout before the PSV striker struck.

View attachment 296088

Another big shock came next as a young Belgium team defeated pre-tournament favourites Germany 2-1. Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring before the Germans leveled. Eden Hazard then won the game for Belgium to cause a big shock all across Europe.

View attachment 296087

And then the big one! England defeat Portugal 2-0. Portugal failed to have a single shot on target in the full game. England left it late however with the 2 goals being scored in the last 7 minutes. In-form Tottenham winger, Wilfried Zaha grabbed the 1st before Welbeck secure victory.

View attachment 296086

Bosnia were the last team to reach the Quarter final with a 1-0 win over Croatia.

View attachment 296082

The Quarter Final also brought up some shock results.

View attachment 296079

The first one was Switzerland beating Italy on penalties. With the scores a 1-1 after 90 minutes, extra time followed where Shaqiri put Switzerland 2-1 up before Italy levelled through captain Giorgio Chiellini with just 2 minutes to go. A missed penalty by Claudio Marchisio allowed Switzerland to grab victory.

View attachment 296078

Turkey then defeated Belgium, again relying on extra time. Burak Yilmaz scored the only goal of the game with just 8 minutes to go.

View attachment 296077

The another potential shock as England beat Holland 1-0. Danny Welbeck with the only goal of the game after just 4 minutes. 4 of the Tottenham lads all started and looked to impress.

View attachment 296076

Host nation France became the last team to make the Semi Finals with a straight forward 2-0 victory of Bosnia. Dimitri Payet got the opener before in-form Tottenham striker, Kevin Gameiro bagged the second.

Into the Semi Finals, and the bookies saw it as a 2 horse race . . .

FRANCE 2/1
ENGLAND 5/1
SWITZERLAND 8/1
TURKEY 12/1

France the big favourites, with England coming in at 5/1. Although France now play England in Semi's so it looks to be the winner of that Semi Final will be huge favourtes.

View attachment 296075

The saying is "the bookies don't often get it wrong", but on this occasion they did . . . twice!

View attachment 296074
In the first semi final match, Turkey pulled off an upset by beating Switzerland in a narrow 1-0 win. Burak Yilmaz got the only goal of the game to book Turkey's place in final !

View attachment 296073
But that upset was nothing compared to the other semi final. England beating host nation, France to reach their fist international final since 1966. England needed extra time to see off France with a 92nd minute goal from Oxlade-Chamberlain.
It wasnt a final that anyone expected !

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL !!

View attachment 296072

Its really pleasing to see England line up with a strong influence of Tottenham players. Phil Jones, Kyle Walker, Dele Alli, Tom Cleverley and Wilfried Zaha all got starting places. Unfortunately, Phil Jagielka misses out through injury but he's been a constant feature in the side all tournament.

View attachment 296071

View attachment 296070

ENGLAND WIN THE EURO'S !!!

England become the champions of Europe with a 2-1 extra time win over surprise finalists Turkey. A brace from Wilfried Zaha secured England come out winners!

View attachment 296069

Awards:
View attachment 296068
Wilfriez Zaha caps of the year of his life by claiming the best player award in the European Championships. Zaha bagged 4 goals and 1 assist in just 5 games. He also recorded an average rating of 7.98.

I can understand why Hodgson left out Danny Rose now as Leighton Baines comes third in this award with an average rating of 7.7.

View attachment 296067

Tottenham can also be proud looking at the dream team as Wilfried Zaha and Kyle Walker both got starting places. Tom Cleverley and Phil Jagielka also managed to squeeze themselves on the bench after a good tournament.

Board expectation: Reach Quarter Final
My expectation: Reach Final

I'm oretty have with these expectations, I feel if we want to cement our place as one of the best teams in England then we really need to be retaining the title this season.

My big aim this year however is to win the champions league! We got the Quarter Finals last season and were so close to beating Barcelona over two legs. It will be tough but that has to be the aim. A good r

A good run in the FA Cup would be nice too! We were knocked out of the FA Cup at the 3rd round stage last season by Chelsea and were beaten semi finalist the year before. This and the Champions League are the only 2 trophies missing from our cabinet.

I'm not really too bothered about the League Cup or the Community Shield this season, and neither are the board. We've won the League cup already and got the final last season, given all the other competitions we'll be in this season, the League cup won't be taking priority.
Im not really bothered about the Community Shield, although it is a nice easy way to win another trophy, especially as this we'll be playing Hull in this seasons.

Christ, may be the only time I ever see England win a trophy haha! Zaha value will have rocketed I bet!

This years Community Shield is hosted by Premier League champions, Tottenham and Fa Cup winners Hull. Tottenham won their first league title last season finishing 6 points clear of nearest rivals, Man Utd.

Hull, meanwhile, got to the Community shield by winning the Fa cup. Man Utd also lost out on the Fa cup as well as the league title, losing on penalties to Hull.

We hand starts to new boys, Phil Jones and James Ward-Prowse, Michelle Vorm also starts thanks to a niggling injury picked up by number 1 Hugo Lloris.

TOTTENHAM WIN COMMUNITY SHIELD !!

Goals from Kevin Gameiro and new boy Phil Jones baggs Spurs their first piece of silverware of the season.

Kevin Gameiro grabbed the first for Tottenham following a defensive mistake from ex spurs captain, Michael Dawson.

New boy, Phil Jones then doubled the lead on the 40th minute.

It wasnt all plain sailing for Jones however, who received his marching orders just before the hour mark.

David Meyler then leveled up the numbers with just 20 minutes to go. This effectively ended any chance of come back for Hull.
