First off, I'm an American, who is basically completely uninformed of the intricate dealings within a football organization. I bought the game after reading about it for years on the OOTP boards, and I must say, it's pretty god **** awesome. Wikipedia has been pretty helpful in answering the really silly questions I have, but a few still remain. It's pretty frustrating trying to completely learn a sport, especially when you already thought you were pretty sport savvy. Anyway, to the questions:

1.) Whenever I fork out a transfer fee for a player, and the team agrees to let me negotiate with the player, but the player doesn't agree to come to my team, does the transfer fee get refunded back?

2.) I really enjoy playing obscure African competitions (Ivory Coast/Ghana) as opposed to the England or EU (although I'd probably learn more from playing England), but I don't really understand the "youth system." Do young players automatically join your U18 team each year? What exactly is the best way to "build" your youth system? I've kind of taken a baseball approach, and tried signing young solid prospects from other teams in my league, but I keep getting these notes that say something about a pre-contract in 2 years, and that "xxxx team will need to be compensated $400k to $1.1 million." What exactly does that mean?

3.) Lastly, during matches, I've found a brilliant (for me, at least) tactic for the Arsenal, but at Half-time, my AM always tells me I need to start marking the posts for corners, what the **** does that mean? Speaking of the tactic, I cannot remember where I found it, it's called "arsenal, Sept. 2016" and it won't allow me to change anything during the match. I can make subs, but can't change the playing style on-the-fly or anything, because the menu is grayed out. Anyway I can change that? By chance, does anyone know where I can find this tactic? I remember the creator posted a bunch of information on the specific positions...

With all that said, I wanted to just emphasis that I have read the online manual, Wikipedia. and searched for these answers (especially on the tactic), however the manual pretty much assumes you know everything about football, and also have played the previous 10 (or however many) renditions of the game. I'm a big-time sports-management sim fan, and FM definitely beats out OOTP in some regards, it's just tough not knowing what 60% of the technical jargon means. Thanks for the help!

1) Yes it does
2) Yes you get regen (made up players to keep the game going) players in your youth team at the beginning of every football year and the pre-contract agreement means that in x years you can negotiate with that player for free assuming he dosnt sign another contract. And the compensation means you will have to pay his old club $400k minimum to break his contract but if the player is successful and e.g. makes international appearances you could have to pay them more money that could rise to $1.1mil
3)sorry i dont know this tactic

1.yes
2.yes they do as the game will regenerate players, so that the game can continue. how good they are is usually lucky, although the better the team the better the general standard, as bigger teams have better facilities. you can download training schedules which should get the best out of your player.

compensation is when you sign a player on a free, so you don't have to agree upon a transfer fee, just offer them a contract. players under the age of 24, i think, have to pay compensation.
3. it simply means you need to tell one of your players to mark posts because your assistant manager has identified that it's open, leaving space for opposition to score. you can sort this by going into your tactics, clicking on instruction, then player instructions, then click on your player and it should be at the bottom. the person that made the tactic that your using has reverted to the older style of managing tactics (FM 09). once you have done this, you can't go back. if you wish to use the greyed out area you'll need to download a tactic that uses the new style, or make your own. hope this helps :)

Use this ans you'll be fine.

Cheers!

Just for final clarification, if the youth player is on my U18 squad, I can sign him to a pre-contract at 17+, but if he's on another team, and over 17, I have to wait a few years to offer the pre-contract?

if he's on another team then you can offer him a precontract but you have to pay the other club a small fee in compensation for losing hte hot prospect your after. when it says you have to wait x years that would be how many years it takes for his contract to run out and for you to be able to sign him for free. although if he is a good player he probally will sign a new contract in that time.
