Duffer has returned to the squad after being injured for last one against Australia. He will add some experience down that left wing and competition with Andy Reid. View attachment 37742
Update: Disaster for Ireland and Duff who has suffered a broken ankle and is now out for 2-3 months, Ipswich Left-Full Stephen Ward has being called up as a Replacement. View attachment 37743
First World Cup Qualifier for Burke see's him up against minnow's Cyprus. Burke cant be to complacent though as he will remember the beating they took here during the Staunton Era when they lost 5-2 and Burke was on the pitch that day. How Ireland Line-Up.. View attachment 37764
No Change in tactic's for Burke who obviously liked the way Ireland played against Australia but some pundits feel its to defensive by Ireland for going up against a team like Cyprus. Team Wise, Andrews who scored that screamer in Burke's first match in charge replace's James McCarthy and Eddie Nolan replace's Marc Wilson.
First Half: Great opening for Ireland as they have shut everyone up who thought they were going to play defensive as they go straight on the attack and look very likely to score. And indeed they have, Great play by McGeady as he beats two players and whips in a beautiful ball which Glenn Whelan gets to on the back post to score.1-0 Ireland. And it only gets better 9 minutes later as Glenn Whelan takes a pass back from Robbie Keane, sets himself up, and buries the ball in the top corner. 2-0 Ireland. 3 Minutes later and McGeady play's a inviting ball for Kevin Doyle to run onto which he does brilliantly , he use's his pace to beat the Cyprus Centre-Half and from 30 yards puts the ball in the top corner, 2 goals in 3 min's for Ireland. Ireland 3-0.
Half Time: No Change's.
Second Half: A poor 20 min's of football for Ireland as they just sit back and allow Cyprus on to them, obviously feeling the game is already won, then, with 71 min's on the clock Jason Demetriou score's a blinder for Cyprus, Ireland better wake up now as Cyprus feel their is something still left in it. Ireland 3-1. 2 Changes for Ireland, Hoolahan for Andy Reid and Morrison for Doyle. Morrison only on the pitch 5 min's, showed Burke that he was right to call him up as he run's onto a Glenn Whelan pass and place's the ball into the bottom corner. Ireland 4-1 . Morrison score's again but its being ruled as off-side. Full Time.
Ireland's U19 and U21 team's were also in action ..
Winston Bogarde gets of to a great start with the U19's with a convincing 4-1 victory. View attachment 37772
Nuno Valente U21's lost 2-1 in a hard-fought match with Romania. View attachment 37771
Pre-Match: Burke has made a amazing eleven changes to the team that played against Cyprus, No change in tactic though. Notably Stephen Ward makes his debut and Clinton Morrison and Leon Best partner each other up top which I'm looking forward to seeing.
First Half: A boring first 25 min's is brought to live by Wes Hoolahan who play's a lovely ball for Leon Best who control's brilliantly and smash's it into the bottom corner. 1-0 Ireland. Noting of note next 20 mins.
Half-Time: Keith Fahey replace's Lee Carsley for his debut and Stephen Hunt is on for Hoolahan who had 45 min's to play instructed by Norwich.
Second-Half: 20 min's into it and both team's have being restricted to long shots. 65 min's going and Moutong dispose's Stephen Kelly deep into South Africa territory and makes a darting run down the touchline and pick's Benni McCarthy out with a lovely ball who has his shot well saved by Colin Doyle. 89 min and Colin Doyle and he has threw the ball straight to B McCarthy who run's into the box and only a last ditch tackle from Kelly stop's him from scoring. Full Time.
Keane, Who scored in the previous meeting between these two gave Chiellini a tough run around last time and like Dunne, will have to be on his best to keep him quite
Gattuso, Who hasn't being the player he once was in a while will be going up against another tough hard-working Midfielder and it will be key for both players to win this battle.
First Half: Opening second's and with Croke Park rocking Ireland go on the attack and Robbie Keane has a shot go wide, Hopefully more of the same from Ireland. Oh no , Disaster for Ireland as Rossi, with Dunne and Nolan around him, picks a pass to Camoranesi who makes a dart into the box and puts it in the bottom corner, Horrible start for Ireland, 1-0 Italy. 3 min's later and Rossi turns Dunne on a 6 pence and buries it in, Ireland are 2 goals down after 10 min's, is their any hope for Ireland? The Answer? Yes, Great play by Keane on the wings and he whips in a inviting ball that Andy Reid gets on the end of, 2-1 Italy after 36 min's, The Irish fan's are now cheering Ireland on again, Burke cannot believe it, Robbie Keane beats Chelini with a bit of skill and puts ball in top corner, GOOOAALLLL! 2 goals in 2 min's for Ireland, Croke Park is rocking ! But not for long, Rossi leave's Dunne for dead and curl's the ball in of the up right and into the top corner, Italy 3-2
Half Time: No Changes ..
Second Half: Ireland have to comeback yet again, Can they do it ? Answer ? NO.. De Rossi score's a header from a corner on the 51 min and its all but over now for Ireland. Noting happening at the moment as Italy are sitting back with what they have and Ireland cant break them down, 85 min and Glenn Whelan is one on one with Buffon, can he score? No! He rounds Buffon but somehow Buffon gets back to save, Thats all for Ireland. 90 min, Whelan free kick, OH THE BAR, Good effort from Whelan. And its all over at Croke Park
Match Verdict: Defeat for Ireland but Burke and his men can be proud of their effort and on another day could have nicked something, they did great to come back from 2 goal's down but Italy showed their class and that was all she wrote for Ireland. Next for Ireland, Montenegro.
But Burke's men now have to win against Montenegro to secure a play-off spot after Bulgaria rising from the dead and coming back into the race for the play-off spot and are now only 2 point's behind Ireland, Big game for Ireland coming up.
First Half: Great opening 20 min's for the neutrals as its end to end stuff, Their is sure to be a goal soon if this keeps up, And their is, Wonderkid Stevan Jovetic score's from the edge of the area. Disaster for Ireland as Bulgaria are also beating Georgia 2-0. Non-Stop attack from Ireland but they just cant put the ball in the back of the net.
Half Time: No Changes ..
Second Half:Brilliant start for Ireland, Aiden McGeady's corner is turned into his own net by Montengro's Martinovic. 1-1, COME ON IRELAND!. Keith fahey is in the box and the ball is slide to him and he hits it first time, GOOAAAALLLLL 2-1 Ireland, Oh wait, the linesman's flagged, he's giving offside! Burke looks furious, he feel's the goal should have stood. More pressure from Ireland as Keane, Fahey and Whelan all have shots saved, Kalac is playing a stormer. 10 min's to go and burke has changed formation, and brought on Hoolahan, Best and Morrison for Reid, Doyle and Whelan, they now line up in a diamond formation with Keane behind Morrison and Best, Last throw of the dice for Burke. Non-Stop pressure from Ireland, but to no avail, ITS OVER, Ireland have no chance of qualifying for the World Cup.]
Ye its a bitter blow as I really felt we could at least get second, Going to look at a different choice of tactic and bring a bit of youth in to freshen things up,
Hopefully we get a draw as good as we did in real life!!

Bulgaria got Greece which is sure to upset Burke as they were the team to get in the Play-Off, They lead 1-2 and with 2 away goals are sure to be going to the World Cup.
